I was able to drink one in about 2-3 minutes, but I had to wait 10 to do another one. Even that got easier after a week and a half or so. It almost feels like the swelling goes down in your tummy and fluids just start to slide through.

I couldn't agree more. Eating a small amount every 3 to 5 hours is MUCH better for your metabolism than eating 3 times a day. My NUT says 3 meals and 2 Snacks a day and that adds up to every couple of hours. You don't want to start grazing on unhealthy foods, but every thin athlete I know eats almost constantly. Their metabolism is super high because even though they always seem to have food in their hand, it is veggies or fruit or tuna etc. If your body thinks for even a second that you aren't going to feed it, it will hold every calorie it can and not let it go.

My surgeon told me I could start biking again as soon as I had my drain removed. I do both walking and biking now. I go half the distance my body is used to, and then come home, drop my bike in the garage and then walk the opposite direction for half the remaining time and then back. I can't wait until I can do anything even near 20 km! I am hoping when I move it will be a bit easier though. Right now, I bike 3 days a week through TX hill country and although they aren't mountains, every few minutes you hit a pretty intense hill! I understand the need to want to do it all, but remember you are going to be tired for a while and will take some time to recover. Good luck!

Why Is This Happening?
LadyIvy replied to jiggyjen1982@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for asking this question. I have been doing a lot of "vurping" too and its pretty gross. I already thought I was taking tiny bites and eating slow, but I will have to be more careful. -
WTG on this life changing decision. It is a little scary, but I am only 3 weeks out and even though I feel like my whole life has changed, it really needed to. Your story sounds like so many people here. I wouldn't give back this decision for anything and in all likelihood you won't either. Congrats on doing something great for yourself and your family!

Oops. I did mean sleeve. lol I was chatting with a girl with an RNY on facebook right before I posted here. This is what happens when you are tired. This makes me feel better because I haven't really had any major pain happen yet. I do burp a lot though. I will be eating and get a sharp pain and burp then its gone. Its so strange. I am trying to make the best out of this honeymoon period and replace bad habits with good ones. I just really can't tell anything about how my gastrointestinal system is going to be that day. Also, I guess there is less danger of stretching it if it takes 18 months to completely heal. I am trying to go slow and it is rather dangerous when something smells really good and I have to wait. It is hard to remind myself that I can't wolf food down anymore or I will suffer.

S,uper Sweet Hubby
LadyIvy replied to irishmama2004's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine tried the liquid diet too. I asked him to stop after 4 days because he just wasn't doing it right and I didn't want him to hurt himself. I was at least being monitored by a doc. This surgery has brought the two of us so much closer. He took the best care of me when I needed him. I am glad there are other women who get to enjoy husbands that are that sweet. You don't see many of those anymore -
Has Anyone Got The Surgery Through The Military?
LadyIvy replied to Tonyswifey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine through Darnell Army Medical on Fort Hood. The beginning of the process goes quickly. Then you are put on a wait list. Don't pressure yourself on time because they can call anywhere between 3-9 months after you are waitlisted. I was on the list in October and got mine April 9th. Its good to wait a bit and get your head on straight and get into good habits in advance. Good luck and have patience!! -
I am about 3 weeks out. I didn't have trouble with the eggs when I first started. However, I did notice that I could hardly eat egg compared to other mushy foods. It is not only loaded with protein but very dense. I haven't had a reaction to much of anything yet because I take tiny tiny bites and go really slow. This way I only have a tiny bit of a new food in me before things go wrong. I understand a lot of people have problems with peanut butter for quite a while. I have found the one thing I cannot take is mayonnaise on anything. I thought it was the tuna, apparently not. Take all new things really slowly, the only nausea I have had is when I forget and drink after I eat. Both times, I vomited. I have to think I haven't had many other issues so far because of how I am approaching new food. I hope it gets better for you soon!

You have to find your motivation. No matter how slow you are going you are still lapping everyone who is sitting on the couch! -
3 Weeks In Surgery - Weight Is Stalled
LadyIvy replied to hgor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't worry about it. This stall is inevitable. When you break through it, you will probably lose a bunch of weight at once -
Why Do I Still See The Old Me.,when I Look In The Mirror?
LadyIvy replied to wickedmijagabby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This phenomenon actually has a name. It is called body dismorphia and is perfectly normal. It takes a while for your brain to catch up to your body post op. It could take quite a few years. You are so used to seeing something specific in the mirror, it is what your brain expects. The person who suggested that you hold two pictures side by side is right, it will help, but it will still take you a little while to see yourself as anything but the "fat girl" that you are used to seeing in the mirror. Congrats on doing so great with your surgery!! -
The idea of this may be a nightmare for many of you, but it may actually work for me. However, it isn't something you hear often. I have been having hunger pains since day 4 after surgery. As a matter of fact, its the first time in 15 years my metabolism has been right. I normally only ate one really large meal once a day and wasn't hungry the rest of the day so my body never wanted to lose weight because it was convinced I was going to starve it and held on to every bit of fat I ate. On day 4, every 4 hours or so I would get this PAINFUL feeling in my stomach, that after about 3 days I figured out was actually hunger! This may work because I am an A type personality that will forgo food for work that needs to be done but if this keeps up I will drop everything every 4 hours to get a few bites of food. Does this happen to anyone else? Like I said, this may not work for everyone, but it might be very beneficial for me. I had just never heard of it before.

I am two weeks out from surgery and my stomach is acting very strangely. In the morning, I get up and make a scrambled egg with cheese and can't get in the last bite or two so I stop. However, tonight, I cut up half a chicken breast and chewed each tiny piece into little bits before swallowing. It took me 20 or 25 minutes to eat it, but when I was done I didn't feel full. I wasn't hungry, but I wasn't full either. Half a chicken breast seems like a lot two weeks out. How much were you eating two weeks out? I have been very careful not to stretch my stomach and am following the NUT diet religiously. I just don't know if that is normal or not.

I am allowed to eat mushies at this phase. I also had my surgery on April 9th. I am cutting everything into tiny pieces and chewing it until it is total mush.

How Long After Surgery Were You Sore?
LadyIvy replied to randalljohn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am day 12 post op and have very little abdominal pain unless I pick up something heavier than I am supposed to. Mainly this is my fat cat and I always seem to forget he is twice the weight my doc said was okay to pick up. lol. I haven't taken any pain meds in days. I find deep breathing and stretching made it a little sore at first, but really helped it go away quickly. -
I would be careful with the soda. The main concern is that the carbonation "inflates" your stomach and over time will stretch it back out. I miss Ginger Ale the most so I feel you on that
-
Get some gas x strips and walk, walk, walk. I never got a single surgical gas pain because I insisted on walking every two hours the first 2 days.

Sleeved 4/9/12. 18 lbs down so far.

I was allowed to use sugar free vitamin C lozenges literally the day after surgery. -
How Has Your Relationship Changed With That Special One?
LadyIvy replied to Sandra_Baby87's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sandra, if you had body issues that were so severe you had trouble being intimate with the lights on, weight loss alone is not likely to help this. In most case, it is a central self esteem problem and you will wind up finding something else unless you get help to work on this problem. As for the question you originally posted, I can only tell you what is happening so far in my case. My husband had been having problems with insecurity as I was getting closer and closer to date. I had to realize that I am not the only one going through this change, it was the entire family. I started doing extra things to help him be more secure in the upcoming situation. We have been together for 12 years and I explained to him that when I lose weight he will be the only one I ever knew for sure loved me dearly through "thick and thin". He is taking great care of me and is doing much better with everything in the past few weeks. I was just sleeved on the 9th and he is taking amazing care of me. If anything, this is making our relationship stronger. Also, he is injured and cannot be as active as he used to be. However, months ago, I started eating better and bringing the family along with me. He is losing quite a bit of weight himself and is feeling better about how he looks as well. He also enjoys going out and doing different more active things with me now. We used to be very active people and bonded over this, but as we got older and both got injured we slowed down significantly. This procedure has helped us come closer together again as we have started to examine where things changed. Just remember you aren't the only one going through this change and it can be a great thing for your relationship! Sorry if this isn't as coherent as I would have liked. I am only a few days out from surgery and the pain meds are pretty effective. lol Good luck with everything! -
Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?
LadyIvy replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had some nausea in the hospital and made it clear to my doc that my biggest fear was vomiting post op. Since I told this to my doc, he sent me home with two nausea meds instead of one just in case. So far I haven't needed it. I decided to stay an extra night in the hospital. I'm glad that on night 2 I stayed because it is the only one I got nauseous on and was able to get some injectable phenergan. So far, that is the only issue I have really had and I am on day 4. Everyone is different but I hope the worse is over for you arj. -
I Can't Tell If I Am Hungry Anymore
LadyIvy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Monday afternoon and to put it simply, I can't tell if I am hungry, I can't tell if I am full. I am not sure what to do. I do not want to stretch my pouch but I do two ounces of fluids and nothing feels different, so I just stop. My stomach is almost always making some kind of rumbling feeling now, so I can't tell when I am hungry either. Any suggestions would be wonderful! Thank you -
I Can't Tell If I Am Hungry Anymore
LadyIvy replied to LadyIvy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So do protein drinks count as protein and liquid? I will never get it all in if I don't count them together.
