    Bmi Is 60

Mine was well above 60. My surgeon wasn't concerned about my size since I don't have diabetes or heart issues. His main concern was my getting up and about as quickly as possible to reduce to possibility of blood clots. I did have an IVC filter placed before my surgery (and it will be coming out June 19th) to reduce the risk of life-threatening blood clots. I have had a very smooth recovery so far and I was fortunate not to even have the gas pain that a lot of sleevers get.
  2. I met the anesthesiologist's assistant about an hour before surgery, and the anesthesiologist about ten minutes before surgery.
  3. My first week I burped every time I ate or drank anything. That sort of has resolved. I still burp occasionally, but mostly when I've hit my "full" point.
  4. I'm so sorry to hear that, but so happy that you are in good hands now. I know it's a huge disappointment, but when you have a successful sleeve surgery it will be worth it.
  5. Saw my surgeon for the initial appointment. It then took me nearly a month to get in to the psychologist. After that I got my surgery date (which was a month later) and the rest of my pre-op appointments (pre-op testing, IVC filter placement, pre-surgery education) happened in the next couple of weeks.
  6. Oh, I wish there was a magic wand. Alas, I still have the same brain...lol.
  7. You mean you have a short-term disability policy with your employer?
  8. You only drank one shake between the time you woke up and 3:30pm??? You need to have a second one around noon. 100 calories isn't going to last you until late afternoon. I would contact your surgeon and make sure they know you're diabetic and ask if they can modify your pre-op diet.
  9. I had the lap band and after that procedure, I can confidently say that I would never have a band at the bottom of my sleeve. Even if it's not filled/unfilled it's still something that could possibly have the same side effects of a band - erosion, etc. If the sleeve is hard to stretch to begin with (not that it can't be stretched) I really don't see much of a benefit.

    Stomach Stretch Question

My surgeon said stretching happens over time, but that overeating (even slightly) on a semi-regular basis will do it. My main concern this close to your surgery date would be whether overeating would cause a complication such as a leak. I think the "I feel awful" part is the reason why we got the sleeve - overeat and we feel bad...ergo, we don't do it.

    I... Want... Mexican Food!

I have a better substitution. Make your own sour cream with cottage cheese: 2 Tbl. milk 1 Tbl. lemon juice 1 cup cottage cheese Blend until smooth. Refrigerate. That's it. It's super easy and really tastes like sour cream. And of course, you can use low-fat/non-fat versions of the milk and cottage cheese. Generally, it has about half the calories and twice the Protein of sour cream, depending what products you use.
  15. Mine got kind of funky-tasting after a couple of days. I think we rinsed out the blowy-part and it was better for me.
  16. My doctor used a 32fr, but I'm not sure if it matters. There was a study done comparing a 40fr to a 60fr and they didn't find a difference in the short term. Someone posted this picture a while back that shows the differences between bougie sizes and it really is negligible. And bougie sizes in inches: 32F = .40" 34F = .425" 36F = .45" 38F = .476" 40F = .5" 46F = .576" 60F = .75" I would say if you're comfortable with the surgeon that is the most important part, but if you're concerned I'd discuss it and see if he'll use a different size or at least stay close to the bougie when making the cut.

    Leak Test Drink

Yeah, I had two as well. A clear-ish drink, then barium. The former was the nastier tasting, but it was only a couple of sips of each, so it wasn't too bad.

    Self Pay With Questions!

It took me about two and a a half months total. I had my initial visit, and then because they're a Bariatric Center of Excellence, they are required to do a psych eval on all their patients. That took a while; it was almost a month before I could get an appointment for that. After my psych eval I paid and was given my surgery date (about a month out) as well as all my pre op appointments (IVC filter, pre-op testing, etc).
  19. Well, I'm recovering from major surgery, so yes I have fatigue. And I would imagine that I will have some fatigue here and there as my recovery continues during the period that I'm still very limited in the amount of food I can consume. And no, I'm not concerned about it in the least, because while--like you--I don't have time for fatigue, I can say that I DEFINITELY don't have the time or energy to drag around 200 pounds of extra weight for the rest of my life. So, fatigue? Bring it on. It'll just be something I'll deal with temporarily on my way to a healthier and more energetic life.
  20. I'd get in shape. Not dieting to lose weight, but getting my fitness as good as it could be so that recovery might be smooth.

    Surgical Tape

I'm allergic to surgical tape, so I always let them know. I get the same symptoms. I'd call your surgeon's office and ask. They may advise you to buy some "paper" medical tape to replace the surgical.
  22. I had staples (28 total ... lap band to sleeve revision). I was at my one-week post op appointment today and they removed them today. I now have steri strips (I think that's what they're called) on six of my eight wounds. The other two were healed enough that she didn't think they needed anything else. The removal was no biggie. It went really quickly. You feel a bit of a tug when they come out, but I didn't think it hurt, really. Of course, I also took my pain meds before this appointment because I knew they were coming out. lol. I'm so happy to have them out. It feels much better now.
