    Got The Vsg Jitters

Before I left the hospital, the Dr. made me drink this horrible tasteing ink looking crap on tuesday afternoon. He came back in about an hour and removed one of the gauze pad where my drain tube was. He said if there is even a spot of blue on the pad, something had gone wrong. Well, nothing came and I was released from the hospital the next morning. Prior to the surgery, I had total replacement of both knees last year. I have sleep apnea, and had a heart attack in 2009 which left the right side of my heart damaged so I have a hard time breathing. The weight was a real problem because I could hardly walk to my mail box to get my paper or mail. I couldn't tie my shoes, it was hard getting into the drivers seat of my car. I needed to exercise but couldn't. I was 351 lbs. before the surgery and now I'm 319. I feel so much better with just this much weight gone. I don't feel deprived of food, I went out to eat for Valentine Day and ate the whole plate. I felt a little guilty but realized, I could eat, but watched what I ate the next day. I am so glad I had the sleeve verses the bypass. The thought of eating baby food just doesn't turn me on

    Alvarez, Garcia, Kelly Or Aceves?

I was sleeved 1/9/12 by Dr. Hector Perez in Cancun, mexico. I would recomment him to anyone. He did some of his training at the University of Miami. He has done lots of the larparoscopic sleeve surgerys. I talked to people that he had operated on, one happened to be close to where I live here in Florida. She had nothing but rave reviews of Dr. Perez. I liked the the idea is having it done in Cancun verses other mexican towns. I did go to the Amerimed Hospital, which was as clean if not cleaner that hospitals in the US. Even though I cant speek spanish, we were able to communicate with the nurse's quite well. Dr. Perez speeks wonderful english. He spends time with you not like the Dr.s here do. Arrived in Cancun on Sunday afternoon to a waiting van to take me to the Westin Hotel on the beach, then the next morning they picked us up at the hotel and took us to the hospital at about 5:30 a.m. and by 9;30, I was on the table. My wife had a large sofa to sleep on the she stayed with me till wednesday a.m. when the van took us back to the hotel. We stayed there from wednesday to friday a.m. then the van took us to the airport for our trip home to Destin, Fl. I would recommend the Dr., the surgery to anyone thinking of a weight loss surgery. I have 5 little slits in my stomach where the instruments were inserted and I even have a video of the procedure they did on me. Total cost to me was $8,100.00. The only thing Ihad to pay for was for my wife to fly.

    I Bought A Bike

This is great news for you and me both. I had both knee's replaced last year, but with sleep apnia, and a shortness of breath, I couldn't exercise much. I had a hard time just walking out to get my newspaper. Since I have had the sleeve, I have lost about 35 lbs. and am not out of breath that much. Improving everyday. I was in Walmart the other day and looked a bike. I need to do some exercise and have decided to get one. What kind of bike did you get?? I'm still heavy, 319, and am a little embarrassed to get help getting the right bike. I guess I'll just have to grin and bare it, but am excited to be doing something for my self.

    Self Pay Patients

I was sleeved on 1/9/12 by Dr. Perez in Cancun Mexico. Total cost, $8,100.00 which included the laparorascopic surgey, hospital, Dr.s fee, my flight to mexico, 3 nights at the Westin Hotel. I had to pay only for my wife to fly down with me. I was getting quoted up to $35,000.00 from Duke and as low as $13,000 in Ocala Fl. I was going to have the bypass but read about this new surgery in the US called the sleeve, and after reading that it had been approved in europe in 2000, the us only approved it in 2009, the Dr. s in Mexico have been doing this surgery for years. My Dr. has done 1000's. He did some of training in Miami. Great guy and I would recommend him to to anyone.

    Got The Vsg Jitters

cheeytree, don't let them scare you. I was sleeved on 1/9/12 in Cancun Mexico. I would do it all over again in a second. Just a couple of things to remember, take little sips of a fluid, I had crystal light resperry ice with me. It was better than just plain water. Organic fruit juices, and gatorade. Now I've been agle to eat almost anything I want. You are going to have to figure out how much you can eat at this time, until your stomach heals. What I found out was if I ate to much, it hurt a lot, even to the point that it hurt all the way to the top of my head. Don't ask me why but it did. Also,I still can't drink any carbonaded drinks. I did have a root beer and left it out with the top off till it got flat. Then it was ok to drink.
  6. Have you tried crystal Light?? I used the rasberry ice once I got home. While in the hospital and at the motel in Mexico, my Dr. sent me back to the hotel with a bag of drinks. Most were organic fruit juices. Just remember to take little sips all the time. DON'T DRINK ANY CARBONATED DRINKS. I made that mistake last week and thought I'd die with the pain .

    One Day Til My Sleeve!

I went to Cancun, Mexico and had my sheeve done by Dr. Hector Perez on 1-9-12. Best decision I have ever made. Dr. Perez was wonderful and the hospital, Amerimed, was clean or cleaner that hospitals here in the US. The nursing staff was so professional. Sometimes the language was a little rough, but they did their best to communicate. The Dr. speeks perfect english. They put us up at the Westin Resort, a beautiful resort. Only thing wrong, I couldn't eat. The surgery went perfect, only 5 little slits in my stomach for the instruments. Left the hospital wednesday a.m. and stayed at the westin resort for 2 more days. Left Cancun on sunday a.m. and flew back to florida. Have had no problems. The only thing I can advise you is be careful of carbonated drinks. They kill me to this day. Have lost about 36 lbs and feel great. The whole cost to me was $8,100.00. That included my airfare, transportation, resort, hospital, and Dr.s cost. If I had wanted to have the procedure done at a clinic, I could have saved $1,000.00 but with my health problems, I opted for the hospital.
