  1. My surgeon told me yesterday that my weight loss is slow because I'm not eating enough calories and my body is in starvation mode. He said I have to eat at least 1000 calories a day and I'm only 4 weeks post-op. He said 1000 - 1200 a day is the goal to lose weight.

    Feeling Full

That full feeling in my throat or that pressure I feel in my chest is when I know I CAN NOT take another bite. I find myself eating too fast because I have a fiance and kids that do not take 30 minutes to eat their meals. They are learning to slow down and try to enjoy meal time with me.

    Endoscopy

I had to have it done before surgery because I had acid reflux really bad and was on medication for it. My fiance is getting ready to have his sleeve done by the same doctor and he dosen't have to have it done because he never has heartburn or acid problems.
  4. My doc says after 6 weeks (when I'm back on regular foods) to "aim for a high fiber eating plan by including non-starchy high fiber carbohydrates".

    85% Removal? Really?

I have also read a lot of things that say 85% but my surgeons info said they remove approx 70%. I also see a lot of people losing more quickly than I am. I'm 3 weeks post op and I've lost 12 pounds since the day of my surgery.
  7. My fiance is getting ready to have VSG in Cincinnati. The self pay total is $15,300 but the surgeon is very experienced. He did my surgery and I've no problems at all.
  8. Did the doctor check for an ulcer?
  9. I used canned chicken breast and pureed it in my mini food processor with a little mayo, dijon mustard, salt, pepper and a little onion powder. It was very yummy and really hit the spot. You could also use tuna instead of chicken. I also made stuffed green peppers and pureed it with a little extra tomato sauce and it was really good.

    Exercise 3 Weeks Out

I am 3 weeks post surgery right now. My doc told me to walk as much as I could. I am not allowed to lift more than 10 pounds or do any kind of core excercise until after 6 weeks.
  11. Have you tried GasX? I was having really bad rumbling and pain after I started pureed foods and my doc told me GasX was ok to try.

    20 Minutes

My doc told me to take at least 30 minutes to eat a meal. I find that I eat too fast, it never takes me 30 minutes.

    Encouragment

I was sleeved on 2/14. I lost 12 pounds the first week and now I'm up 2. I had my 2 week post-op visit yesterday and they told me it's just my body adjusting. I also stopped taking my blood pressure medicine because it has a Water pill in it and I was terrified of deydration. The Dr. told me I'm probably holding a little more water and adjusting to not taking the meds. I'm not seeing it on the scale but I can tell I'm losing lots of inches. I'm just hanging in there and trying to make sure I get all of my Protein and water in. I can start walking a little more now and I know it will start coming off soon. Stick with it, I'm sure we'll both start seeing the results very soon.

    Too Many Calories?

I had this conversation with my NUT yestereday. She told me to not even think about calories, just focus on the protien. I start mushies on Monday. She told me I will probably be able to eat about 1/2 c. She did tell me that when I start adding in more solid protien and raw veggies at week 6 that I will feel fuller and not eat as much.
  15. I know this is 2 things but I would say chapstick and a robe to wear when you're walking around. I took my phone and netbook too but didn't even need them. I was only in the hospital for one day and I slept a lot from the pain meds.
  16. Leederz, the 30-30-30 rule is stop drinking 30 minutes before eating, allow yourself 30 minutes to eat and do not drink while eating, then wait 30 minutes after eating to drink fluids again. This allows us to eat more of the food (protein) we need instead of filling up on liquid. Also, drinking to soon after eating can make the food move thru too quickly and you don't get the nutrients from it. It makes me hurt if I drink while I eat or too soon after I eat.
  17. Hi all, I was sleeved 2 weeks ago. I lost 12 pounds the first week and week 2 NOTHING! It seems impossible to not drop the pounds when I'm barely eating anything. I'm working on getting that Protein in. Anyway, my question is about drinking Clear liquids. The first couple of days I was sipping and feeling the pains and gas bubbles like I've seem so many of you talking about but after the first week it seems like I can drink normally. I do follow the 30-30-30 rule but I'm kinda shocked that when I drink I don't really have to sip. I can take serveral drinks in a row with no problem. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy about it because it's so much easier to get my fluids in. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I guess I'm a little worried that I don't have enough restriction in my sleeve. Then again, maybe I'm just a fast healer and the swelling is gone. I haven't had any trouble adding different foods back into my diet so far and I feel great.
  18. I'm on pureed foods right now too. I used canned chicken breast and pureed it in my mini food processor with a little mayo, dijon mustard, salt, pepper and a little onion powder. It was very yummy and really hit the spot. I also made stuffed green peppers and pureed it with a little extra tomato sauce and it was really good.
  19. My surgeon said they repaired a small hernia when they did my sleeve. I'm 9 days out and I haven't used pain meds since day 3. Everyone is different and maybe your hernia was more complicated to repair.
