That's awesome! OH Juli - Congrats on the XL...I also recently went to old navy and saw a zip front sweat shirt that I fell in love with but knew that I wouldn't be able to fit in it. I bought it in xxl anyways. When I got home, it not only fit, I could zipper it. I was so excited!!!

momlambert - good for you, finally some restriction!!! maybe now the weight will just drop right off!!! thickchickTEXAS - hope you feel better...you definately will after you get an unfill... So yesterday I called up my gym and hired a personal trainer, I can't wait to see what happens. I hope I can still move the next day!
-
Sat, 1hr ellitical, Sun...nothing! I did sign up for a personal trainer though. My first appointment is next Saturday, I can't wait. I'm right there with you guys with the whole weight thing. I wanted to lose 10lbs this month, I'm checked the scale yesterday and I'm the same weight I was on August 1....

yea, and star jones just came out in the sept issue of glamor stating that she had gastric bypass
-
I haven't but I was wondering about NV...

Oh yea, it does make the sides tighter, and gives a good stretch at the same time...it definately won't make the fat disappear, but with the right amount of cardio, the band, the this making things a little tighter, you'll notice a difference in about a month!

What is your cardio of choice?

I tried bellydancing pre-op and loved it. It worked muscle in the waist/ab area that aren't usually worked with crunches. It was a great workout, for the whole body actually, and it was fun. Now I'm gonna try it again! -
I like taking a hand weight, maybe a 8-15lb one, and standing straight up, feet shoulder width apart, both arms straight down. Grab one dumbell and hold with right arm (no bend in arms). Slowly bend to the side (think running right hand/dumbell along the side of your leg from hip to knee) then back up again. Repeat on same side for however many times, I usually do the whole thing 15 x per side, 3 times, then switch dumbell from right hand to left had and bend to left side. When you have the dumbell in your right hand, it tones and stretches the left side, vice versa. Seems to tone up the sides, and they aren't crunches on the floor (which always make me wanna cry!) Don't know if this was explained right!!!

Your doc had the same suggestions as mine, so that's what I do, and that's what I've been doing since having my band filled. I still think I need another fill, but I just eat until I'm full. I also try to eat protein first, then veggies. Right now at this fill level, I can't eat rice, bread, potatoes, basically anything starchy. I can however eat pasta, but only a small amount. Maybe 3 to 5 bites...

That's awesome. Swimming is one of the best exercises too, no impact, really makes you work on your breathing, highly aerobic, and no sweating!!!!!
-
How often do you swim whos?
-
Awesome D - can't wait to try that, I have about 50 lbs left before I will try it though. Don't want to break anything!!! So nothing for monday or tuesday, yesterday 65 minute walk around very hilly neighborhood. Got a real sweat going on during one of the uphill climbs!!!

My doc said just to go slow. I've pretty much given up on soda, I was never a huge fan of it anyways, but I do drink about 2 beers a week and I just sip it slower now. The only problem that I've had with it is it gives me the burps! Maybe not a problem if one was entereing a burping contest?

Awesome Job!!!!!

Can you try going on the weekends? Or just do something active with family on the weekends. Or what about just walking and biking during the week. If the kiddies are very little you could include them in the walk by using a stroller (that would provide some resistance). Or you could try work out videos, pick up something fun, and do it after kiddies are asleep. Ask hubbie if he wouldn't mind looking after kiddies while you work out. Set a doable goal for yourself, 30 minutes of moving, 4 times a week. Add to it every couple of weeks. 35 minutes, 40 minutes, an extra day. Eventually it will become a part of your lifestyle. I know it hasn't yet become a part of mine, I'm still working on it. I've only been working out for 2 months, and I enjoy the feeling that I get when I do it, but often I'm too busy, or too tired, or a plethora of other excuses. But I have come to the realization that for me, a healthy lifestyle does include exercise. It doesn't matter when you work out, or what kind of exercise that your doing, just be sure to move as much as possible. I have a real hard time motivating myself to just get up a do something and I don't even have kiddies. I use LBT to post as much as possible about exercise because it makes me realized how much I'm actually doing...

Very true about the ass pain. I took the class on Sun and I'm still hurting, and I definately couldn't keep up either...but that's why I want to go back. I want to be able to do everything that the instructor does...
-
I really do hope more people check it out because I have fallen head over heels for it! I would love to get a spinning thread going!!
-
Funny you mention, I just took my first spinning class yesterday, and I can't wait for next Sunday for my second class. It was great, super intense, and I couldn't do everything that the instructor was calling for, but for the things I couldn't do I just kept pedaling. It is probably the best workout I've had so far, since I've started working out again, about 2 1/2 months now. Also, even though my heart was beating like crazy, and the music was pounding, and I was sweating like a pig, the lights were all off with just some black lights and some neon chalk on the walls, and it was almost meditative. It made me focus more on my form than I do on any of the machines (elliptical, treadmill, stationary bike, etc.) By the way, take the day off from the gym the following day, I'm so sore I can barely walk up my stairs!
-
After surgery you will probably have to wait to do anything besides walking for about 4-6 weeks, depending upon your doc. And I wouldn't stop working out until a day before your surgery, it can only help with the heal/recovery time. Do you have a date yet for banding?
-
I wouldn't think that it was good to get hit in the port area, but if you aren't having any pain, I wouldn't give too much thought to it...
-
Hey D - Breaking in the new bike I see! Awesome! NuddyBuddy - the energy will definately come back...once you get to solid foods, you'll have a ton of energy, and it'll get easier and easier to move, trust me.
-
Ok, so I tried spinning today and it was AWESOME...I could barely keep up, but there was only 1 other person in the class, and definately not a skinny minny in a jog bra! I am definately going back. It was a great workout, better than I get using the machines (elliptical, treadmill, stairclimber, bike, etc) and even though I couldn't do everything the instructor was calling for, I just sat there and kept pedalling!
-
nuddybuddy-take it easy for now....you've just had your surgery, just keep on with the walking, it gets so much easier! Sat, 18th, 60 minutes of elliptical, 100 crunches!!! Sun, 19th, 60 minute spin class!!!!! I can't believe I actually did it. This is totally not something I would have ever attempted before. And let me tell ya something, it was so super hard, and I was in spinning 101...but I'll be there next sunday. I can't wait...

How to use FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) for work
jmarruda replied to michiganer's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
At my place of work, there is no "leave of absence" so we have to use FMLA for any sickness or family sickness where you will be out for longer than 3 days. Basically all I did was fill out the forms that I got from our nurse here at the company, send them back to her and the FMLA people got in contact with my doc and she had to fill out a few forms of her own. I ended up taking 3 weeks out of work for this surgery, but I only did it that way because of the way my company works our time, (vaca, sick, etc.) I probably could have gone back after 1 week. -
OH Juli - I've never had a fill done under flouro, do you have to drink something prior in the docs office? or do you have to drink something earlier than that?
