Di - I've noticed that when I'm really stressed I can't eat. My band just freezes up and nothing but liquids goes down. But it only last a couple of hours, so its not that big of a deal. My knee was hurting after spin last thursday, but I was fine the next day. I just hope that it won't be a repeat thing. Sorry about your ankle. Hope it feels better... Sun morn - 60min spin class.

Just go really slow at first, only a couple days a week, and for only 20 or so minutes at a time. It'll take a while, but you will slowly build up. And you will slowly become stronger and stronger. Trust me, you will soon come to love it and will be doing it for hours at a time every day. You just have to realize that you won't be able to do that much all at once. After a few months, you'll be jogging up those foothills! Also, basic lunges and squats really help with power/strength for walking, running, hiking, cycling, etc...

Good Luck Jazlady, hope everything turns out OK... Momlambert and Dems - isn't it funny how sometimes we think, gee all I've lost so far is X amount of lbs, that sucks. But it took a lot to get to where we are now. And with everything going on in our lives, without the band we probably would have GAINED weight. For me, it didn't take 6 months to gain all the weight, so I don't know why I get so impatient sometimes. I know it'll come off, I'm doing everything right. And you know what, if I want that cookie, I'm going to eat it. Because thats normal. I work out, a lot. And I'm eating great, a lot. So I refuse to feel bad if I have that cookie, or some ice cream, or some m&m's (which I really like now, I don't know why). I can't eat like I used to, and as long as I have my band I know I won't be able to. Enough of my ranting. Have a good weekend Marchies...

To make the treadmill a little more interesting, get a set of 3lb and 5lb weights and do all kinds of arm exercises while your on it, and only do it for 20 minutes. You'll work up a complete sweat, and be working on your whole body, and it definately won't take up much of your time. You can do it when you wake, get home from work, right before bed, whenever. And you don't have to do it everyday. Eventually, you will have to increase the time and the intensity, as your body will become used to the movement and it won't take as much work. But you could easily walk on the treadmill at a slower pace than you normally would and do 2 minutes of bicep curls, then 2 minutes of tricep work, 2 minutes of shoulder presses, etc, stretch each upper body muscle group for 1 minute while your walking, turn around and walk backwards for 2 minutes really slowly, walk sideways, both ways. All really embarrasing things that you wouldn't want to do at the gym but that you can do at home because nobodys looking, and they really tone you up. Theres 15 minutes of walking while doing something else right there. Then have a quick warm up and cool down and you will have had a complete whole body workout!!! Good Luck getting motivated. I know its super hard. And I didn't start working out until 4 months out, and I completely regret it...

I asked my surgeon whether or not it was ok to start doing intensive ab work and she ok'd it. But if you are having pain I'd let her know about, even if it turns out to be nothing.

Hey Rainer, I've been strength training for a couple of weeks now and I ended up hiring a personal trainer because I didn't have a clue as to what I was doing... She told me if you want to melt fat and make your muscles look really cut, you just have to burn them out, to the point where you can't even move your arm (or leg, or back, or abs, or whatever muscle you are working on). I was doing your typical 3 sets of 12 of all kinds of exercises and she said no no no! I'm now using much lighter weights (5lbs for upper body, 30-50lb for lower body) and doing 50 or so reps and 2 sets with no breaks in between. I'm not telling you that you should do this, but my trainer was telling me that your better off (me personally) working out this way for now, while you still have over 50+lbs to lose. Once you've lost all the weight that you want to, and want to build muscle you can slowly increase weight and decrease on reps. And she makes me do pushups. The real ones, not the girl ones. I couldn't do one on our first session together, I was basically just holding myself up. She told me to work up to 20 the first week by trying to do them every single day. I did 1 pushup every 1/2 hr the first week. That was 3 weeks ago. Last night I did 5 sets of 15 pushups (I had to take a break in between the pushups!); I felt so strong. I only see her twice a week, but I feel like it has made such a huge difference. We do a combination of free weights, and the gym machines, and she wants me doing one hour of cardio five days a week, and the days that I see her she wants me doing 1/2 hour of cardio. I'm still working on that, its hard for me to get to the gym every single day, but now I'm working most days, 5-6. I need at least 1 day off!

I almost don't wanna see it...LOL -
areellady - just think about how fab you are going to feel and look when your done with the program! I really would like to try it, but I am really intimidated by running. I tried a couple of weeks ago and I only lasted 60 seconds at 4.5 mph. Then I walked at 3.0 mph for 5 minutes, then I had to quit! I'm hoping I can start couch to 5k within the next few months though!

After I watched supersize me, I can't even look at those golden arches without gagging...I really can't believe that they would put a MickyD's poster in a gym! -
If you picked up on it last night, the blonde trainer girl said that they are working upwards of 4hrs per day, not all day. I totally thought that they were exercising 8hrs a day. And I read Jillian Michaels new book this weekend and she wrote in there that you can only work out for 2hrs at a time before your body starts burning muscle, so I'm sure they are doing a morning workout and an evening workout, not all at once. And to the jackass - I do sit on the couch and glue myself to the tv for the biggest loser, after my 1hr spin class and taking the dog for her 1hr walk, thank you very much...

60min Spin last night.

demsvmejm-you look incredible

That's awesome whos, definately keep swimming in the routine because its totally working. And the trainer did say that the weight loss would slow because your increasing muscle, but you do want the muscle to be there once the weight is gone...
