I'm gonna get my BUTT moving tonight, I just hope the soreness in my legs goes away after I start warming up... -
I've done yoga since being banded and lived through it. Double check with your surgeon just in case.

take it easy losing, you don't want to really hurt yourself, if you have to take a couple days, take them. -

WIKIPEDIA DEFINITION http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/00/NordicTrack_eliptical_trainer_and_woman.jpg An elliptical trainer (also cross trainer or simply elliptical) is a stationary exercise machine used to simulate walking or running without causing excessive pressure to the joints, hence decreasing the risk of impact injuries. Elliptical trainers offer a non-impact cardiovascular workout that can vary from light to high intensity based on the resistance preference. Most elliptical trainers work the user's upper and lower body (although some models do not have moving upper body components). Using an elliptical trainer is designed to elevate the heart rate more than building muscles. Check out the link, theres a pic. -
Thats an awesome attitude to have. And let me tell you a little secret. Take the spin class, if its too much, slow down, bring down the tension, stay in the saddle, etc. I still can't do everything the instructor calls for and I've been going for over 3 months. I do what I can, and I still get an awesome workout. So, if spin feels overwhelming, don't punish yourself with the treadmill, keep taking spin, and go at your own pace. Also, a lot of the spin classes keep the lights off, and the music is blaring, so you're not even paying attention to other people, or whether your keeping up! Spin is awesome. But Di's right, you are definately going to be sore!!!!

Well, I'll be finding out how many cals burned next time I get to class, I just bought a heart rate monitor. I'll let you know what it says...
-
Check out the spin class now, see how you like it. Starting an exercise program now may help with recovery and how quickly you can get back into that exercise program. Again, check with your surgeon, see what he/she recommends.

Thanks, my form is pretty good, but I'm slightly top heavy, so I end up leaning some of the time. And I was noticing just from gripping the handlebars in different position my wrist and forearms look much firmer. Thanks for the tips!

Couch to 5K - Week of 21 ? 27 October

Oh yeah, losing, I ended up buying a heart rate monitor today. I saw the one that you told me about, and then they had a nike one for $50 cheaper. I just set it all up with my stats, so I'll let you know what it says next time I do my run. The watch is a little awkward, I haven't worn a watch in over 5 years, my wrists were always too fat. And this watch is on the last loop and feels really tight, but I'm hoping with its technology, I'll be able to wear it loosely really soon. Question, do you wear the band around your chest all the time, or only when you workout? -

thundandlight, hope to see you in here more often. I just have to say this, whos, you know you want to go get one of those cupcakes...mmmm, cupcakes. They are delicious. And they go down so easily. Just one couldn't hurt, maybe you should go get one. I think you know what thats for... Stefanie, how long does it take you to ride 43.96 miles??? Geez. I think you need your own thread. I was proud of my 1.71 miles on the treadmill. I wish there was a way to find out how many miles I go in my spin class. It would probably still be a measly number to your 43.96?!?

MEEGCO, you should definately wait until you get the all clear to do strenous activity for couch to 5k. I can barely do it now and I've only lost 42 lbs. Keep up with the walking, that's awesome. Oh yeah, I only started working out 4 months post surgery. I waited really long and was completely dreading it, but now I look forward to it. For me, it really is ME time, and I have trouble sleeping now if I skip a workout. -
Wow, they're that dangerous huh? I'm scared.
-
Oohh, those sound dangerous. I'm going to have to check those out!
-
HEY! Stefanie, Actually I know I could definately use some "different" motivation, other than the constant reminder of the milky way incident. Oh yeah, and by the way whos, I'm not in here all day, I do workout!
-
Yeah, and I've noticed over the past few months, we're getting more and more active. I saw you on the bicycling thread so I know how active you are!!!
-
Honestly, don't worry about what you look like. I had that problem in the beginning and it really hindered my weight loss. Just think, everyone at the Y will be thinking the same thing about themselves. Nobody will even look at you because their too busy thinking about themselves. So get in there, and hop on a treadmill, or elliptical, or bike, and start moving. And only go for 10 minutes. Next week, you can go for 11 minutes. And the next 12 minutes. Take it slow, you'll see that each week your not only going to get better and be able to go longer, but your gonna look better too!

Stefanie, basically we just post what we've done in regards to exercise. Any and all exercise. And we create a new thread for each new month. Usually I'll post in the morning what I've done the night before, and sometimes things that I know are coming up, like appointments with personal trainers, classes, challenges, etc. There are a few of us doing the couch to 5k program, and there is a seperate thread for that, but we do post here that we've done each workout because it is part of our exercise program. We also support each other when we fall off the wagon, like the time I ate a lot of mini milky ways..... You are more than welcome to join us!:clap2:

yeah, exactly. Their ok on their own, but better when you pile stuff on top of them. And they come in all sorts of flavors.
-
Yeah, I'm trying to lay off the red meat. We used to eat it anywhere from 3-6 nights a week. Now we eat it maybe once a week. I use ground turkey in everything, and I just put some steak seasoning on it and nobody can tell the difference.
