So happy I didn't wait another year to have this surgery. Surgery date: May 9, 2012. ; 34lbs lost.

You can get a very nice memory foam topper for your mattress at Overstock.com. They ship to your home. The secret is to unwrap the topper & let it uncurl into shape for 24 hrs before putting on your bed.

Any 50+ Going To Mx To Be Sleeved In July
Artsy replied to thin soon's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep! Was sleeved May 8 and am 59 yrs. glad I did it and didn't wait to have WLS. I don't react well to anesthesia anytime & this surgery was no different. The first day was rough. But the next morning I was ready to go home and had no problems at all. 5 weeks out and I've lost 23 lbs. so far. -
Dr told me not to worry about protein during first week of surgery. During my first follow up appt, I was told to add protein drinks.
-
I'm doing great! Not able to exercise much because of work and fatigue but am getting better all the time. How are you? We're you a May Sleever?

Would You Do The Gastric Sleeve Again?
Artsy replied to Barb7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tdh80, I'm so sorry for your complications. You are in my prayers for a speedy recovery. Pls keep us posted on your progress. We want to support you while going through this difficult time. -
I'm the same way. I'm almost 3 weeks out & must have protein as soon as I wake in the morning. I usually cook a scrambled egg, followed by yogurt If I don't have protein right away, I will begin to get so fatigued by 10am. At work, this is not the optimal feeling I need. I've even had to go out to my car to take a nap. I hope this is temporary and will go away as soon as I can eat more.

Daily Vitamins
Artsy replied to readytobeslimxoxox's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One of my very dear friends is an MD and totally against WLS surgery. He probably weighs 400 lbs and can hardly walk up a flight of stairs. You should have read his email to me talking about the horrible results of WLS. Well, I didn't listen because I was sleeved on May 8. -
New Here! I Was "sleeved" On 5/9/12.
Artsy replied to bean406's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello Bean406, I just had to respond to you and give you a Big WELCOME because my nickname is Beanie and I live in Houston. I was sleeved on May 8 th--just a day before you by Dr Marvin. I've heard of Dr Yu and understand he is excellent. Were you at Methodist or Memorial City hospital? I'm still in the full liquids stage. Last night my friend & I went to Olive Garden. I ordered one of the cream soups. Ate the liquid, not the chunks. I've also started eating the baby sized yogurt--the ones very low in sugar & high in Protein. My tummy still favors warm over cold foods. One of my favorite food -- inside of baked potato. Wishing you continued success. P.S. Don't know where you're stayin in Houston, but Jenni's Noodle House Restaurant has some wonderful soups. -
Prayers and white lights sent your way, dear sleeve friend!

Jimmy, I can promise you will heal better at home. So glad you are feeling a little better. Remember "baby steps" will get you to full recovery. We have all been so concerned about you. Glad you are better, sleeve buddy!!
-
Welcome! Take care of yourself during recovery. Sounds like you are doing great!
-
Your chest hurting is the gas. I felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. When I complained about it, they did an EKG and a chest X-ray. All normal.
-
Ladies with the headaches: could it be a caffeine headache? We're you a caffeine drinker prior to surgery? Also, are you getting 64 oz of fluids--you might need to focus on fluids.

Prayers & God's healing going your way. -
My surgeon told me to crush my anti-depressant. Is there a reason NOT to crush? I will have to take mine crushed until I can swallow a pill.

Did You Or Are You Keeping Your Sleeve A Secret?
Artsy replied to letsdothis!!!'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've chosen to tell anyone who asks and I will not keep it a secret. People in general need to hear more about WLS---instead of keeping it a dark secret. Of course, there will will always be those who will judge--those people are the ignorant ones. Would you believe two friends I graduated with, who are doctors now, told me not to do the surgery because "it's not proven to be successful" and that "so many people's lives change for the worse afterwards". BTW, they both could use WLS. I didn't listen to them and made my own decision. It is such a personal decision--only each individual can make. -
Informing My Employer About Surgery
Artsy replied to BigGirlVee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I worked up to the day before surgery and I filed for extended medical leave (5 days). The first 4 days I took as PTO time. I'll be returning to the office next Monday. Luckily for me my boss will be traveling til the middle of the week so I'll be able to catch up easily.
