    My surgery date is tomorrow!

I'm at 91 down, been in a "stall" for almost 2 months. The inches are coming off though so I know I'm doing okay with the stall. I would have probably lost more but had some back issues around week 8 and knocked me out from working out until here lately. Just get your plan and track everuthing and stay strong! I think I got like an hour of sleep the night before surgery....lol you will get a good nap tomorrow! Good luck and see you on the losers bench real soon!!

    My surgery date is tomorrow!

Congrats! Be positive and remember everyone's journey is a little different. As soon as you can start walk walk walk it helps so very much with the gas and also for me helped me feel more normal. As soon as you are allowed sip sip sip. When you get home take it easy it was easy at times for me to forget I had just had major suegery. Make sure to get your Protein and liquid in and some things may not settle well or taste the same. I'm 7 months out and most restaurant foods are way too salty. Don't be afraid to ask questions, to your surgeon, office, support groups etc. Most of all enjoy this journey you are about to embark on!

    Taking Medicine

I was allowed pills per my surgeon at 1 month (he preferred them split in two) but I now take my vitamins, Tylenol, and my PPI in pill form every day, no issues and no problems. Been doing it since the 1 month point and I'm 6 months next week!

    The Diet ?

Everyone is correct my plan vs my husbands plan were totally different. Pre-op Me: 3 Protein shakes 2 weeks prior high protein no-low carb one meal per day day before surgery all Clear Liquids Hubby: 3 Protein Shakes 2 weeks prior, as many leaf greens he wanted, one meal high protein Post op: Me: 3 days clear liquids, 28 days full liquids, 2 months soft foods, then begin progressing and adding as sleeve is comfortable Hubby: 1 day clear liquids, 1 week full liquids, 1 month 1 shake a day and whatever soft foods, month 2 eliminate shakes (his doctor wanted him getting his protein from food opposed to supplements) We are both doing great and followed our doctors plans, with the exception of his post-op he waited a bit longer to progress than one week. Just get your doctors or nuts (if they work together) plan and follow that, if you have questions ask! They are there for you!
  6. I was able to go to full liquids on day 3 and that included yogurt I would do Greek yogurt 5oz cup in vanilla and sprinkle sugar free pudding to give it flavor and also a sprinkle of usually chocolate Protein powder. If I remember my measuring it came out to 15g of protein. It took me close to an hour to eat...but helped reach my numbers. With the protein powders that have a temperature limit I would take an ounce or two of warn tap Water and dissolve my protein in that and boil the remaining water to get it hot as I liked and then mixed the two, only clumping issues I had was if it took me too long to drink. Making or buying protein pudding is another option try to eat a few bites (early out regular pudding was way too filling for me) Hope some of these tips help! You'll be back at it in no time!

    So Many Problems. Worth It?

I did not have the medical issues and can not speak to that but when I moved to soft foods lots of things made me sick and gave me stomach cramps and diarrhea. I got to where for the first month on soft foods I ate the same things everyday because they worked. Sometimes some of our tummies take a bit longer to get healed enough to process. Yogurt and refried beans and chili from Wendy's were some of my stapes during this period. I hope your surgeon can give you some suggestions.
  8. Never had acid reflux or heartburn prior to surgery now, if I forget my med I'm in a world of hurt. My husband used to eat tums like candy, after surgery he very rarely gets anything. Maybe twice since surgery in June. Like others said it truly is 50/50!
  9. I take omniprezole (generic Prilosec) once a day for sure, twice a day if needed. My surgeon said anywhere from 6 mo-1 year stay on it.

random musings from a really bored woman...lol

I grew up competition shooting and loved every minute of it! Practice is important is on the ground before mounting, I tried horse mounted once and lost my groove. I'll keep the two sports separate but enjoy watching! Start with something small and cheap until you get the hang of it maybe a .22 pistol (ammo is fairly cheap) then move to your competition size pistol of choice! Glad to hear your doing well plastics are a long way off for me, but I will be traveling for them. I still need to shed about 180 more pounds.
  11. I think it was Fiddleman that suggested it but using a Casin protein shake before bed helps your body heal and keeps you full through the night. I will do this or something not hard on my system like some cheese.
  12. If I skip my PPI or am more than a few hours off from when I normally take it my day is done for and I have heartburn that settles into nausea. I usually take one 20mg pill in the morning and on these days will take a second. Might be worth a try. My surgeons office said because of the progression of heartburn to nausea it is just how my body deals with the acid.

    Drains or no drains?

Drain Overnight, taken out after leak test. Before going home. Had no pain or discomfort from it, as forgot it was there really. Hubby was sleeved in Mexico he had his for 3 days.

    Surgery ?

Lots of rest, adapting to your healing body, soreness. During the first week I switched from liquids to full liquids, started trying to hit my numbers with Protein and Water intake and getting a schedule for all of my Vitamins. I was sore but had no pain. Did find it difficult to sleep in my bed the first week, others have no problems. Good luck!

    Suspicions....

I was sleeved (self pay) in the states, my husband in Mexico (3 weeks apart). My fee was $14k almost equally split amongst the surgeon and hospital. I went to one of the leading surgeons in my area. He chose a surgeon in Mexico with loads of experience in the bariatric field and did pay more for that knowledge. He was also accredited by medical associations in both countries, which gave us piece of mind in case something did happen. He said his surgery was very similar to mine in experiences of patient care and stay. It honestly comes down to budget and comfort. Originally we were going to wait a year apart and he was going to use my surgeon but after seeing the process and the recovery he felt more than comfortable saving almost half and traveling for surgery. Some can not afford the US prices and Mexico is viable, some do not want the hassle of traveling post op and that is understandable. Either way we are both losing and bettering our lives. I will be considering Medical Tourism for plastics when that time comes.

    Post-Op Driving

I waited 48 hours after the last time I took pain meds. I was fine though no issues after that.

    Not another Gas question

Try something besides plain water. I could not drink plain water for the first 2 months due to the molecular structure, it was painful in my chest. If I simply added lemon or flavoring it was fine and did not hurt. I drank a lot of crystal light and g2 Gatorade the first few months.
  18. I was out the next day, was supposed to get to go home at 1 but had to wait for a prescription so I had to sit there until 5 waiting on the surgeon to get out of surgery.
  19. You got this and before long they will have you back to start prepping which comes with some good meds as soon as the iv is hooked up! See you on the losers bench!

    selfpay Help!

Call your insurance and ask. I read my book and knew my wls was not covered but asked anyways. They confirmed, then I asked if I had general medical testing done to see if I were a candidate for surgery if that would be covered and they said yes. So my blood work, gallbladder ultrasound, and psyc eval were all covered and I just had to pay my co-pay on them. Now traveling and such it may be out Of network so I would also ask about that.

  22. Being a husband an wife team, where I was sleeved in the us and although self pay had surgeon required testing and my hubby sleeved in TJ we saw both sides. He had a general health check by our PCP before deciding to go and his surgeon did a health evaluation online before accepting him and giving a surgery date. The day before surgery in TJ the did blood work, an EKG, as well as chest X-rays. Which aside from a gallbladder ultrasound are all of the tests I had. So some of the surgeons are doing this testing and an patient at the hotel he was at had a delayed surgery due to blood work, so it makes me think it's not all a snip and clip type industry as many believe.

    Time off for desk jobs?

I agree with the brain fog, I am in finance and took off 2 weeks. More so than the brain fog was the physical sitting in my office chair, the position that my core was being held in made me very sore at the end of the day, in no way compared to my recliner or sofa. I came back on a Thursday and both Thursday and Friday left early due to fatigue and soreness. The following week was fine and I made it full days. I hope this helps in your decision.

    Regretting surgery

By the middle to end of week 2 you will feel like a completely different person. When I returned to work one of my co-workers kept getting on to me saying I was trying to do too much and remember "you just had major surgery, even if you don't feel like it now". Your body is recovering and once it is ready you will bounce back and it will be wonderful! Chin up, you did your research before hand and were prepared, you have your reasons for choosing this surgery and in due time you will understand and see all the positives of your decisions!

    selfpay Help!

I was self pay in the states, Orlando, Fl with Dr. Jawad for $14,000. Had an amazing experience at a bariatric center of excellence. The care and attention was great and he is very knowledgeable. My husband was 3 weeks later, self pay with dr. A. Ortiz at the OCC. His experience was very comparable to mine and he traveled by himself and said if we need plastics he is comfortable going back. It of course was cheaper than mine in the states.
