Depending on your profession, a 4 week notice is not unheard of.

thank you! That does make sense.

I am now at the mushies phase of eating and I am trying to get most of my Protein from food rather than protein supplements (which I find nauseating). While I was on liquids I was getting 800+ calories a day. Now that I'm eating mushies I actually ate 1200 calories yesterday (and managed to get in 78 grams of protein, which is good). I am hoping that when I get to the regular food phase I will only be able to eat small amounts of more solid food (these mushies go down and through pretty easily) and so the calories will be reduced. Any thoughts/experiences on this?

Anyone Have A Hernia Repaired? Still Hitting The Pain Meds After 9 Days

I had a hernia repaired and it is the only reason I used the pain meds. -
Anyone Feeling Moody?
Spatters3 replied to teambrown4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
prayer works ! I have been asking all my friends and family to pray for my horrible attitude and yesterday afternoon, the spirit of rage made its exit and I feel 1000% better ! A few months from now I am going to have to go to a gynecologist if this menopause thing hasn't settled down. Atleast to make sure there's nothing wrong with me. They always want to "fix" things and I usually prefer letting nature take its course. -
Anyone Feeling Moody?
Spatters3 replied to teambrown4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oh, is that it ? estrogen ? grrrr I have been horrible for a couple of days now (sleeved 2/13) and my period started while I was in the hospital and it is still going! Now, that isn't too odd except I am 55 and THOUGHT I was post menopausal ! grrrrr My husband thinks I'm possessed by something foul and will be calling an exorcist soon -
Since this is really the most daring and scary and thrilling adventure I have ever been on, it deserves a theme song. "Free Bird" is just too melancholy. "Amazing Grace" ? "How Great Thou Art" ? hmm.. maybe this needs a new song. Fear was the drink that filled my cup yet thirst drove me on to partake. I emptied the bowl and held my breath waiting for something to break. All that I dreaded did not come nye, no demons of hate and guile. Just my own little face looked back at me with a wink, a nod, and a smile. Yes, I have always been my own worse enemy, critic, what have you. Well, that has all been figuratively and literally changed with my VSG. This is going to be grand! I want to use this blog as a recorder of my physical state but I think I will also have to use it for my spiritual, psychological, and emotional state. not hungry (this is good. this is bad - it means I will have to think about what I eat. ok... this is good) my daughter had to come rescue me today and took J & R for the weekend (2 grandchildren we are raising); thank you sweet daughter; J is severely developmentally delayed and my spirit broke - it just gets to be too much the laundry needs to get done but no one is doing it. hello ? didn't you hear me crying and swearing about it this morning? *sigh* guess I'll do the laundry it's so quiet in the house am I losing it? hahaha... I punned myself

Discomfort After Food Or Drink
Spatters3 replied to koriswlj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 days PO and my stomach has definitely settled down. I was horribly nauseous and couldn't even keep water down the first 2 days I was in the hospital and then after the upper GI showed that my sleeve was fine - no leak, no blockage - the silly thing settled down. How much of it was just in my head? I don't know. The mind is a powerful opponent When I drink ice water I get a "clench" and then it feels like it rolls out of it. I would call it a spasm feeling, but it's not painful at all. And I'm not hungry. I think I have to be very careful to make sure I am getting enough nutrients. This is all new to me - being careful with myself at all. Very strange journey I have embarked upon indeed. -
2/13 Sleevers..how Are You Doing/feeling Today?
Spatters3 replied to ddd8704's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 2/13 and had to stay 2 nights in the hospital because I couldn't even keep water down. The doctor had to do an upper GI to make sure I wasn't leaking or had a blockage. Turns out I had contracted the stomach bug that is going around. arrrrgh ! bad timing !!! I am much better now and the only real pain I am having is from the hernia repair that he also did. My stomach, er, sleeve seems to clench/spasm/roll.... it's hard to describe.. every once in awhile. Oh, and the tubes of "New Whey" 42g protein drink must have been manufactured in hell. evil tasting stuff ! I only managed to get in 30g of protein in (took me 4 hours to drink a 14 oz Ensure High Protein shake). I can tell I am going to have to get more creative. -
Newly Sleeved, Tired And Gas Pain
Spatters3 replied to koriswlj's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was sleeved on Monday. The surgeon also repaired a large hernia and that's actually the only thing that is hurting. I'm telling you, it was a horrendous experience. After the surgery I couldn't even keep water down - just retching and sliming... just awful. I had to stay for a second night and then the doctor ordered an upper GI (I was wondering how I was going to keep that awful "shake" down). Well, I did, and it showed there were no leaks and no blockage. So guess what it was.... the stomach bug. Of all things to have when going in for this kind of surgery. Oi vey ! I'm home now and I am going to be fine. Oh, and I lost 13 lbs pre-op, but I have no idea what I weigh today. Everyone is absolutely correct - walk ! -
I am going to get my VSG today too. I'm weak and miserable from just the 1 day of liquid diet yesterday :-( What a wimp ! This is exciting and scary and I still can't believe that I will lose weight but, we shall see :-) Best of luck to all fellow Feb. 13ers !

Telling People How Much I've Lost...means Admitting I Had That Much To Lose.
Spatters3 replied to jencomenz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Amen brother, own it ! It's the same reason I don't dye my gray hair - I earned every last one of them and I am proud of surviving this long. When I finally start losing weight (I get sleeved Monday :-) I will proudly tell anyone who asks (and I'm sure some who don't) exactly how much I've lost and how I did it. -
oh joy :-( I experience horrible leg cramps now and I don't get sleeved until Monday :-( I think it has to do with dehydration. Drink more water and probably Gatorade would be good to get some electrolytes. And the calcium in the milk is good too for cramps.

Introduction, My Story And Questions :d
Spatters3 replied to beth0905's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
*BIG HUG* I'm getting my VSG done this Monday so I'm in the same boat as you - hopeful but afraid to hope, excited but afraid it will all be for naught, will it work at all ? will I be too fatigued to do my job ? will my hair fall out ??? arrrgh ! You know what... no matter what everyone else experiences, it will be different for us because we're different than them. Some people have done wonderfully with the lap band, but not you. Some people can diet and excercise their way to slimness, but not you or me. I think we just have to keep on trying. Oh, don't go off willy nilly and fall for every weight loss scheme out there, but research, learn, ask questions, and then decide. Yes, I am giving myself a pep talk. This is all scary stuff. I refuse to be afraid. "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil." Amen. -
5 Days Out And Starting To Get The Jitters!
Spatters3 replied to TanngerineTrees's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm scheduled for Feb. 13 too ! woo hoo ! Yes, it's exciting and scary and no matter how many posts I read I know that MY experience will be different than anyone elses so I don't really know what to expect. But... chances are it will all be good :-) -
Food And The First 2 Weeks Of The Gastric Sleeve
Spatters3 replied to Jellyfish's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
shhh.... it's ok.... shhh.... it will be all better soon . heh. sorry :-) Jellyfish: are you taking any liquid Protein ? Even this soon after surgery you should be getting protein or you're going to get ill. 100 calories a day is not enough period. Now, to address your original post : I don't know since my surgery is scheduled for Feb. 13 . But from what I have read of other's experiences, we will eventually be able to eat "normal" food just in much smaller amounts. We can also polish off a gallon of ice cream every day (slow & steady, eh?) if we choose. I too love to eat and prepare lots of different and exciting foods, which is why I chose the VSG rather than the lap band or bypass.
