What customizations did you make to the myfitnesspal? I signed up, and I'm trying to figure out what I should be tracked. I started my pre-op diet, and I wish I could set the calories a little differently. I am slsherwood51 there.

I lost all my weight and then some so the "norm" is not always the case. I followed the rules to get to goal quickly and wanted to worry about maintenance when I got there. I've been easily maintaining my current for over 6 months with the sleeve.

I lost all m weight. If you stick to Protein first and a little veggies when you have room, you can't help but lose.
Try not to worry. Of course if you cheat and eat candy which goes down very easily. that will change everything.
You can do it if you are dedicated to following the rules and adding some exercise in.

I usually don't go all day with just the Protein Shake but I was out and about all day today! My shake is anywhere from 40-60g of just Protein Powder with a cup of 1% milk. Somedays I also add a Tbsp of Peanut butter! Todays shake was 40g of protein! I do not experience any hunger (I'm just over 15 weeks out) but I do have Head Hunger and also empty hands which makes for snacking at night The Protein Shakes used to REALLY fill me up and not so much anymore so I usually have something for lunch!

I think all of us were apprehensive prior to surgery. We do the research, read the fail rates on leaks, and read the success stories. I'm 6 weeks post-op and the real learning came in the first two weeks after my surgery. I realized how much food played a vital part of my life. Always eating, family gatherings, evenings in front of the TV, everywhere. LOL
But the funny thing is that when your hurting and feeling bad, you start to realize how you got this way in a real sense. I could talk about being fat before the surgery and thought I understood why and how it happened, but when I ccouldn't eat what I wanted to, I realized the real problem and how much food controlled my life.
I miss being able to mow down a pizza or whole chicken, but now understand just what it was doing to me. Diabeties, High blood pressure, cholesterol thru the roof. But with the sleeve, it has given me the tool to stop those destructive habits. My Doctor gave me a wonderful little bit of advise. He said, "listen to what your body is telling you" I never had done that before. It works. I eat healthy foods now and the weight is falling off. You will do wonderfully well as you learn thru your journey of weight loss as all of us are also. Enjoy the journey!

verysoon reacted to royboy in Has Anyone Skipped The Puree Diet?
Why would you skip the puree diet? take any chances? Not follow the rules? This is what got you fat in the first place! the diet your Doctor has you on is for your protection and well being. Why would anyone risk their life for a piece of food? Call your doctor and talk to someone with the knowledge of what may happen if you fail to follow directions. It's only a couple of weeks of puree, before you move to soft foods.
I would never advise you to listen to someone on this board and do the opposite of what your Doctor has you doing!!!!
    Good luck!

Please do not take the advice of someone over the internet versus the person you allowed to sleeve you. Contact your Surgeon if you feel you would like to speed up the process. He or she should be the one to guide you on such an important decision as this, as this would also be the person to correct any damage you might bring to yourself by not following your guidelines.
Take care of yourself, don't let others who are not qualified, do this for you.

Cons of the sleeve- It does not make you magically get skinny with out any hard work. Booo. I was dupped!!
You still crave junk food and you still have to fight the urge to eat it. it is true you cant eat a whole box/bag, but you can still eat more than you should.
You can't drink liquids like you used to so it is a struggle to stay hydrated.

That is awesome!! Like you, I seem to be experiencing resolution too, and my doc also wants to see how I do for a while on solids with a couple more A1cs, but i'm not on meds anymore. he won't declare me resolved until he sees a 3 month a1c of me being on solids, but with the readings I've had since being on solids, I think it will be good news.
    congrats to you!!!

:welcome: Oh my dear Nate, you are still a virgin. At this early stage of your surgery you and your stomach have a lot to get used to. Your stomach is recovering from that mean stuff you did to. Like everyone always said - drink slowly for now - if you can't keep Protein shakes down, mainly drink Water, because you need to stay dehydrated. Sip, sip , sip - everything slowly.
You have started a new journey, and it will be great.

drink before you're thirsty. When you feel thirsty, you're already starting to dehydrate. Fluids are so very important.
try to discipline yourself against sweets. If they're your downfall, don't buy them. Don't have them in the house to fall back on when you're bored.
If you feel you can't, maybe talk to your surgeon about the optional second part operation of the duodenal switch.
    exercise. exercise. exercise.
How much Protein are you eating? How quickly after are you drinking?

I agree that there's a good chance that it's Water weight from the sodium in the gatorade. It could be so many other factors too - close to your time of the month, general weight fluctuation, etc. I do also weigh myself every day but only "officially" count my Monday morning weight (and that's what I log on my tracker). I don't worry about slight fluctuations through the week.
Any non-caffeinated, sugar-free beverage will count towards your liquids, so experiment a little with other options. If you like iced tea, buy Decaf tea bags and make your own - that's one of my favorite things to drink with a little splenda and a squeeze of lemon.

No worries, take deep breath and try to relax! I lose this way as well. I will drop a few pounds then it comes back up for about a week and then it drops back down and is gone forever untill the next time. At first it freaked me out but then I discovered the pattern and have learned to just roll with it. Try to be patient and watch for your own losing pattern. We are all so very different and losing will come when our bodies decide it is ok to let go of the fat. I lived on low cal gatorade for the first couple of months and now I use Mio flavoring because I can't drink plain Water (makes my tummy hurt). You are doing great! Keep up the great work and stay healhy!

Please stop weighing yourself every day. It will drive you crazy. I am a victim of the scale. In the beginning, I didn't bother weighing myself and was very happy . Then I decided I wanted to see how many pounds I would loose over night. That's when I noticed that I was in a stall. I have a hard time staying away from the scale now. I am trying to not weigh myself until Valentine's day which is next week.
Eat alot of Protein, drink alot of Water, and just focus on enjoying today. You will do fine with your weight loss! Trust me. You will lose it.

verysoon reacted to PaPaBob in 200+ Miles Powerwalking - Down 131 Lbs
A little background. Started out at 366 lbs at 6' at age 61. Lapband was my choice at that time and had LP surgery in July 2009. Did pretty well although the larger lapband that was used was a 15 cc and we never could get it tight enough to give me restriction. Lost 83 lbs. Had left hip surgery in May 2010. Rehab from that was to start a walking routine. Gained back about 35 lbs thru July 2011. Lapband just wasn't working as it never was tight enough to restrict my intake. Scheduled VGS conversion for mid-Aug. 2011 and surgeon wanted me to lose as much of the 35 that I gained before surgery. I had seriously begun Power Walking to lose the weight. 3-6 miles per day at about a 16 min/mile avg. Morning of surgery at clinic I got on the scale and had lost it all. VGS surgery went really smoothly and my recovery had started. 2.5 weeks Post-Op I participated in an 8k/5mi Run/Walk with my walking buddy Jolly and finished it in a personal record avg/mi time. 15:16 min/mile. Hoooray!!! Have kept up my walking routine thru the Fall along with rigorous hunting actvities.
Here's the WOW moment. Since July 17th 2011 I have now covered 208 miles. I use a GPS program on my smartphone to track and monitor my activities.(RunKeeper). My avg times have continued to drop and now I am walking at about 14 min miles and have actually done a couple of walks at under 14 mi/mile.
I feel so good and healthy right now. All my health indicators are fantastic. Weight has dropped to 235 for a total loss of 131. Blood workup has me in the normal range of everything. BP is actually a bit low now and they are taking me off my BP meds.
I couldn't feel better. I still have 35 lbs to go but with my walking and exercise routine I am sure I can attain that goal also. I plan on participating in a half dozen or more Run/Walk event this summer. I just wanted to let all of you know that it can be done and you can get an exercise routine to work for you. Start small and slow and it will naturally increase with time and weight loss. Good luck in your journey.

The morphine made me sick too, but it wasn't nausia. I just stopped taking it in the recovery room as i wasn't in any pain except for the gas and I knew I could walk that off.
Full liquids. WOW! I don't get those until the 25th - two weeks post-op.
