I have been obese most of my life. In 7th grade I was already 170+ lbs. I was active and walked, played volleyball and softball but I also enjoyed eating and drinking soda. My parents were always trying to get me to loose weight and my mom did start me on diet center in my freshman year of high school. Success only lasted a while. Part of the problem was that my dad passed away when I was 13 and I bottled it up and became depressed. By the time high school graduation came my weight had ballooned to 240lbs. Over the years my weight continued to creep up and I would just keep buying bigger clothes. I started to become concerned when even the bigger girl clothes were becoming too tight. My blood pressure was out of control, I would get short of breath with minimal exertion, my right knee would hurt and grind and my job was being affected. Over the years I have tried and been temporarily successful at a lot of weight loss plans but would always gain the weight back plus some. I bought an elliptical machine and every exercise tape out there. I actually exercised consistently for 8 months and lost weight to be in shape for a trip to Sequoia national park and did so. We hiked and climbed the mountains and I was so proud of myself. When we came home though I reverted back to the old ways. I had seen and knew people that had weight loss surgery but with the Roux-n-Y being the only option at the time I was not impressed. There were to many complications and long term effects that did not sit well with me. I thought that the lap band might be an option but with the amount I needed to loose did not think it would work. In 2009 a co-worker had the gastric sleeve and when she came back she looked fantstic. That is when I started to investigate. 3 more co-workers had it done all by the same doctor and they had no complications and felt great. I finally decided in 2011 to do it but was not 100% in the game menatally. I still loved my Pepsi, bread, and candy. I fall of 2011 I was finally to the point that my health was frustrating me. I figured if I could give up pepsi then the next steps would be easy. I did it with God's help and my families support. I have had a couple sodas since then but not since 1/12. I then started the pre-op liver shrinking diet a month early as I wanted to loose as much as possible before to give me a head start after. When I had my weigh in the day before surgery my BMI was down 3 points. I was so excited. Dr. Aceves, his team and the gastric vertical sleeve are a God send. I have no regrets and can't wait to get out of bed each day. I totally recommend this to any one needing to loose more than 50+ lbs. I have currently lost 44lbs and loosing. In fact I still have 2 pairs of jeans I bought in 2007 when I lost to go camping. they never did fit and still had the tags on them. At christmas time I had bagged them up and was giong to give them away. Last week I pulled them out and they fit perfectly. I only hope I can wear them a few more times before they go back into the give away bag. This time I will be happy to pass them.
