This time 1 year ago, I was crunching on ice, chatting with some fabulous nurses, and icing my abdomen. It was truly one of the best nights of my life. The first night of my new, healthy, life. I'm down 105lbs- with 50 more to go. I could never have accomplished all I have without my husband and mother. So happy

I'm almost at my one year mark since surgery. I've lost 103 lbs- and I feel great! The only issue is- I'm at a complete stand still. I've been around the same weight for over a month now, which is not normal for me. I'm not confused at all as to why. Since Christmas I've fallen off the wagon- so to speak. I know it's hard to do so, but I did. I'm not getting all of my Water in and I know my Protein is low. I can't seem to get these two things BACK into my life. I'm trying really hard with the water, but getting my protein back is so difficult. Even before my surgery I was a picky eater- I don't like cottage cheese, veggies, or anything that is best as a quick "to-go" snack. I get reeeaaally sick of cheese sticks...I'm not sure what to do. I got in the habit of relying on "protein bars" and "100 calorie packs". Those 100 calorie packs are a joke. I'm not sure why I ever got any, knowing all too well that it's just processed carbs that won't do me any good. What can I do? I feel hopeless. I feel like a complete failure. I go back and forth between the same 3 lbs. Up somedays, down others. I guess I should feel good that I haven't GAINED...I mean, past what I've been at. Are there any picky eaters out there that have a good solution to on the go snacks/meals? Again- I'm sooo picky. I wish I wasn't, but I am. I've tried a lot of stuff and they either taste gross or the texture grosses me out. I've come such a long way and I'm so proud of what I've accomplished and I have another 50 lbs and I'll be at goal- I KNOW I can do it, but I need help getting back to where I was.

Thanks. Unfortunately, it's their type of food that has me in trouble. Their tv dinners are so high in sodium and their Snacks are still pretty high on the carb count for what my dietician has me at

Rock it out! Good for you! I can't wait until I'm faced with the light at the end of the tunnel and can say I'm x amount of lbs away from goal. HOLY MOLY! What do you plan to do when you hit your goal for your birthday!? -
9 Dys Post Op And Im Having The Hardest Time Getting My Protein And Liquids In.
Shelly-NO-Belly replied to new2this1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I agree with Joni. Ask your doctor. And generally, the first 2 weeks should be liquids only, I would definitely not advise eating eggs. My dietician did not allow me to eat eggs until I had healed completely (though some people are told they can have them with "mushy" foods- it's all up to your medical people). Good luck! Keep us posted so that we know everything is alright! -
Nervous About The Pain!
Shelly-NO-Belly replied to disneyteach's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my gallbladder taken out in May of 2011. The pain was AWFUL. I took pain pill for what seemed like forever. Naturally, when my surgery was scheduled, just like you, I was afraid of the pain. I didn't want to relive how I had felt before. Honestly, though, while I felt tenderness and swelling was apparent, it wasn't as bad as you might think. A good hospital/surgery center is going to keep you well medicated and help ween you off an IV drip. I had an IV drip until the end of the very first day after surgery. Then they gave me liquid- which I thought was way worse than any pain. Because you can't take pills right away, you have to take the most awful tasting medicine (in my opinion). The first week after my surgery, I stayed with my mom, and she just about had to force feed it to me LOL but I'm a wimp when it comes to taste. Being nervous is natural, so I won't tell you not to be (I bawled the entire check-in process right before they gave me like...3 doses of some medicine to calm me down). I'm 3 months out, 60 lbs down and I have NO regrets. There are bumps in the road and certain things you have to get used to, but really, I am so happy with my choice- as is most everyone on here! Good luck! It will all go well! You'll LOVE it! -
Heartburn Straight From Hell
Shelly-NO-Belly posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there folks! Well it's been quite a while since I posted anything. Tonight, I post a question--- I am out of my prilosec that my doctor prescribed me (my surgeon/his facilities are 2 hours away). I have an appointment with him on Monday, so I've been trying to hold off going to the store to buy the OTC kind, since it's so much more expensive. Anyway...I've got really bad heartburn tonight. I suspect because I have been sick all day with the stomach flu and have been throwing up (first time since my surgery on Jan. 31, 2012). I'm miserable, and I can already tell that I'm not going to get to sleep. Do any of you have home remedies for heartburn that I could give a shot? Any advice is greatly appreciated! -

Heartburn Straight From Hell
Shelly-NO-Belly replied to Shelly-NO-Belly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Glenda! I tried that earlier, but it made my stomach turn a bit. It's a little humid today, and I have the weirdest stomach that's sensitive to just about everything (yes, even the weather). If it's humid, then my stomach is going to refuse any dairy. But I appreciate your reply! Good to keep in mind if I run into this again and don't have the stomach flu -

Has anyone else experienced a sort of "stall" after hitting the walking? I've been doing well with my walking, but for the past week my weight hasn't really changed. Which I know I can't expect loses everyday, just seems silly to be eating so few calories and then burning them to not see a change. I figure maybe muscle gain, but I don't know how much walking builds muscle. I'm not super worried. Just curious. Gracias!
