Unflavored Protein - Is Unjury The Only One?
traceyc replied to mufasas-mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My grocery store has a bulk section with bins of flour, granola, snacks, etc and they have a bulk unflavored protein. Might be something to look for too. -
I am the same, the sweets were just too much for me. I drank V8 at least once a day. Just be sure you are taking a PPI. I thinned my protein drink to make it less sweet and added unflavored protein to anything I could soups, V8, etc so I didn't have to drink as much protein drink.

Eat More To Lose? (I Must Be Dreaming)
traceyc replied to Ready?Going..'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was having a lot of trouble getting my protein and calories in 3 meals at the beginning. My doctor said it was fine to do 5 or 6 small meals a day. I felt much better doing more smaller meals. I was trying to push myself too much with only 3 meals and meet my requirements. Now that I can eat more in one sitting I try to limit to 3 meals and a healthy protein snack each day. -
I haven't had them yet, but she did not say they were fishy. I know you have to be particular about the cooking. I think she boils then lays on paper towel to absorb some of the excess Water to keep the texture better. Also, you have to rinse really well when you open the package I think.

my MIL swears by these miracle noodles. They have zero net carbs. I haven't tried them yet. http://www.miraclenoodle.com/

My favorite way for protein! Love it seared or raw.

I had to give a urine sample right before surgery but it was only to check for pregnancy. -
What To Pack For Hospital
traceyc replied to UTGal99's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
These are a must! I would have been miserable without my lip balm. I was so out of it from the pain meds I couldn't read or watch tv. I would have loved to have had ear plugs, great suggestion. -
Can I Have 2 Prilosec A Day?
traceyc replied to KikiCC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The prescription prevacid was twice as strong as the otc so I took two for years. I found it worked better taking 1 every 12 hours. Be sure to clear with your doctor. -
Any Bakers, Chefs, Cooks?
traceyc replied to scaredoftheunknown's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That is the worst thing about food addiction, you can't get away from food ever. A lot of other addictions you can avoid seeing the source of the addiction but food addicts can't stop eating! It sounds like you unfortunately have it worse with your job. I know you won't be able to stop tasting. It is a must for any chef or baker. You will have to just be as disciplined as possible by sticking to one or two tastes just as needed. This is of course easier said than done. Perhaps you could set up a reward system for yourself? Like if you go a week without doing more than tasting when necessary you buy a shirt or dress or something similar. If you go two months a concert or play, whatever will motivate you. -
For sure get that stitch removed if you can. I bet it is irritating it some. It was a good 6 weeks for that incision area to be not sore. It takes time to heal. When I was more active it would hurt more or if I slept in a different position. Bending over to pick up something was the worst. Just get your protein in to help with healing and liquid Tylenol is great when really sore.

Anyone With United Health Please Help!

I had a great experience with UHC. They did however tell me multiple times they only cover one weight loss surgery. Hopefully not the case for you. I was confused when they told me that but it was before I knew many people with bands had problems. -
Just Cleared To Start Trying...

How exciting! Best of luck to you. -
I had no restrictions on caffeine so I started having coffee at about 2 weeks. You may want to get the skinny mocha so you don't take in so much sugar or calories. My go to at Starbucks is a soy latte with hazelnut.

Not Looking Forward To The Attention!
traceyc replied to carolc's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I know the feeling. I noticed the more weight I gained the less people would do nice things like hold doors open. I still think sometimes this is all in my head, but I don't think all of it can be. I do think that some of the people not talking to me as much when I became larger was because I was not confident in myself and people were getting that vibe. I was miserable at my highest weight and I think that showed. People I think can see the unhappy and just naturally stay away, but there are for sure people out there that judge just on looks unfortunately. -
You look amazing! I love your dress in the last one.

I came home 15lb heavier from the hospital then when I went in, but I was thankful for the hydration. So the first week I didn't really lose anything but the water weight I had gained.

Everyone looks so good! -
When was your surgery? Fried food is the same as any other solid food. Won't hurt you if you chew it up really really well and is allowed in your food stage. You are told to avoid fried food because it is high calorie, high fat, high carb and usually not much to it nutritionally speaking. I have nibbled on a few fried things since surgery. My sleeve was fine with it, but my calorie counter was not. lol

I saw someone else mention sore gums before. My gums have always been tender, but it seemed like my whole mouth was achy in the beginning to about 2 months out. Have you been throwing up much? That I would think could also irritate them.

Have You Ever Wondered...?

I wish I had asked for pictures. I would love to see the difference. -
At 4 weeks I was just starting soft food. I could do Soups and long as everything was mushy in it, mashed potatoes, soft fish like tilapia, canned tuna, Pasta, etc. I think you could easily find something soft and mushy in a restaurant. You will not be eating very much. Protein shakes are going to be a must. You could get a shaker and some powder when you get there or get some ready to drink while on the go. Have fun in New York. I just went on vacation there for the first time in June and absolutely loved it!

The liquid for the test was the first thing I had to drink after my surgery. My doctor doesn't let you drink anything until after the leak test. It tastes horrible but it was over quickly. I was standing up for it which was good I think. I couldn't drink the last swallow, so they just stopped. I am glad I had one but it doesn't completely rule out leaks. Once the swelling goes down a leak could still be found. Luckily leaks are rare.

My doctor gave nausea meds too. If it is bad, you can give them a call and see if they can give you some. The pain meds made me nauseous. Eating or drink too much or too fast can make you throw up also.

Congrats on your new sleeve! Hope you have a quick recovery from surgery. I grew up in The Woodlands. I drive through Magnolia when I drive back to visit from Austin. Since you are in Texas, I have to recommend HEB Mootopia milk. This was a life saver for me post op. It has half the sugar of other milk and 12 g of protein per 8 oz. When I couldn't tolerate much, this really helped me get my protein in. I used it in my protein shakes and soups to boost protein.
