    Craving Chocolate ...help

Sugar free chocolate pudding is my go to or a small piece of dark chocolate. 1 small piece will help with the craving usually for me.
  2. I got a pill crusher that basically turned my prevacid into a powder that I mixed into a spoonful of chocolate sugar free pudding. I didn't start swallowing it whole until week 3. My vitamins are chewable including a gummy vitamin D. My doctor said not to swallow any pills larger than my pinky fingernail.
  3. There should always be a doctor on call. It may not be your surgeon but someone. I think you should call for sure. Vomiting that color is a concern with or without a sleeve. Hope it turns out to be nothing, but you can't be too careful.

    Pre-Op And Alcohol

The only concern I would think of is your liver. Over a week before surgery I would think would be fine as long as you are not overdoing it. You want your liver to be as healthy as possible when you have surgery. If you are really concerned, give your surgeon's office a call to be sure.

    The Pain?

There is pain of course, but I thought it was pretty tolerable. It hurts to get up or sit for about 2 weeks but once sitting or standing I didn't have much pain. Everyday the pain was less. I had a button to press in the hospital for pain meds and I used it a lot! That is what it is there for. I took the prescription pain meds for about 3 days after I got home (I was in the hospital for 1 day). Then I used Tylenol off and on for another 2 weeks. It took a good month before I didn't have any more pain when moving and towards the end it was only when I would bend down. Just keep in mind everyone heals differently and your pain could be more or last longer, but it might not mean anything is wrong. Have you had any type of surgery before?
  6. I was told and I was prepared to throw up after VSG. I read on here it happens a lot. I am 7 weeks out and havent vomitted once. I am glad, dont get me wrong but i want to hear there are others who never have. I feel like i eat normally now just smaller sizes so i am not eating just soft and i do feel restriction. It makes me feel like maybe i am doing something wrong.
  7. The only restriction to driving was to be off the pain meds. I had surgery on a Tuesday and switched to liquid Tylenol on Saturday so I could drive on Monday. By that time Tylenol was enough to take care of the pain for me. It was uncomfortable getting in and out of the car for a few weeks, but it wasn't too bad.
  8. Thanks everyone! It feels better to hear from others. I am so glad my sleeve is so tolerant and hope it keeps up.
  9. I am curious what side effects you had with prevacid if you dont mind sharing. I was taking prevacid for years and wonder if some issues i have were missed as a side effect.

    Starbucks/ Panera Suggestions

The tall latte with skim milk or soy milk will be about the same sugar wise. I like the richer flavor of the soy but skim milk will have a couple more protein. I skip the sugarfree syrups because i dont care for them. Best bet low cal no sugar is the house coffee black. But wheres the fun with that!

    Watching Ppl Eat Is Gross

Same problem I stress over the size of thebites everyone is taking and how fast. I had these beef tenderloin bacon bite things. I cut it into 8 pieces for me. My husband picked one up and put one whole one in his mouth! I had a panic moment. I sometimes feel sick when i see the quantity they eat. I was out tonight and had 3 wings and other people at the table at 15! I know it is all in my head.
  12. Mine was about an hour and half from when they wheeled me back also. Then a little over an hour in recovery. My nurse said it was best to tell my family it would be about 3 hours so they wouldn't worry if it went over a few minutes or something.
  13. Congrats on your license! I had a Superbowl party at my house 2 days before I was sleeved, man that was tough, but it was a small price to pay to get healthy. I find it is easier to resist temptation after being sleeved personally. First, I don't have the constant hunger I felt before surgery. Second, for me, there is a big difference between I shouldn't eat that and I can't eat that. I really don't want to get sick, so I take every precaution not to overeat and make myself sick. I have not had the test of a big family holiday yet, but I have had some get togethers with my friends and resisted all the temptations! I find that food is still enjoyable, but I make much wiser decisions about what I am eating since there is so little of it every bit needs to count.
  14. I was never told not to have any spices, but I had pepper on egg whites around 2 weeks out and I could not tolerate it. It upset my stomach and made me cough which hurt my still healing incisions. I wasn't able to stomach pepper until about 5 weeks out. I had no problems with salt, paprika, garlic, onion powder. I never tried mustard, but that is only because I do not like it.

    Pregnancy After Surgery

I was told 18 months also. This ensures you are out of rapid weight loss and makes it safe for you and the baby.

    Ibuprofen?

I too would suggest a quick call to the doctor's office. I just had my 6 week check up with the doctor this morning and she said it was ok for me to occasionally take ibuprofen since I have no history of ulcers. I have a chronic inflammation condition and occasionally need to take NSAIDs to treat it so I discussed this with my surgeon prior to VSG. It can only be occasional, not everyday long term.
  17. Wow, that sounds painful. I would stick to washing with warm soapy Water until you hear from the doc. Let us know what the doctor says. I am 5 weeks out and would like to know what to look out for! I didn't know you could still have issues with the incision that far out. Hope it gets better soon.
  18. I had a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time. I stopped the heavy pain meds around day 5 but still took liquid tylanol through week 3. I needed to be able to drive or I may have used it longer.
  19. My biggest incision was on my right side and that is where I had the most pain when moving. I could tell it was getting better and less painful everyday so I did not worry. If the pain is really bad and not getting better I would call your doctor. When was your surgery?
  20. I have had both. Gallbladder removed in 98 and sleeved on 2/7/2012. I recovered quicker from my gallbladder surgery, but I was of course much younger so that could be some of it. I was back to work and school within 5 days for gallbladder. I was much more sore from VSG and went to work part time after 8 days. I have a desk job and sitting in one spot for so many hours was uncomfortable and I could not do the full 8 hours until 2 weeks out. I also had a very substantial hiatal hernial repaired at the same time as my VSG so I am not sure if that added recovery time and pain.

    Steri Strips

My skin really holds adhesive so my doc gave me adhesive remover pads because they would not come off. I had to wet with warm soapy water and use those. It felt so good to have them off.

    Food Funeral

I did greek yogart in week 2 and my sleeve loved it. Just get the vanilla or honey flavor to avoid fruit.
  23. Good luck! I had to take the 550 question exam too it was so very strange. I would love to know what it would mean if i did like reading home magazines.

    Surgery Anxiety

Everything should go smoothly. I quit smoking cold tukey myself knowing we would never be friends again. This surgery isnt saying goodbye to your friend food. It will forever change your relationship but in a good way now you will be in a healthy relationship together.
