    Fab 40's shout out

Hey 40's friends..... I haven't checked in for awhile. My boys have been busy with lacrosse starting. However, I am still moving in the right direction. After going off my blood pressure medicine and gaining 4lbs, I immediately went back on the meds, guess what happened? Those 4lbs feel off and now I think I am down several more. Tomorrow is my officialy home weigh in day. I saw the NUT yesterday and everything is going good. My food choices are good. I'm getting 800cals on avg, getting enough liquids and taking my vitamins. Now that I am 6+ weeks out she wants me to start getting more fresh fruits and vegatables. I have not been getting enough of those and when I do have veggies, a lot of times they are "empty" veggies like celery and green beans. Well good luck everybody. Take care!

    Panicked!

Ok, so I don't weigh except once a week and today is six weeks since my surgery. I got on the scale this morning and I was up 4lbs. WHAT???? I don't know what the heck happened...... I have been following the program and I track my calories each and every day and my intake is consistently between 800 & 1000 day. I'm taking my vitamins and getting my protien. I feel like I get enough H2O but I don't go to the bathroom very much. The only thing I can think of is that I stopped taking my BP meds last Saturday. They contain a dieuretic and maybe I'm retaining water. The only thing I haven't done is work out because fatigue has been a problem. Well, I will be hitting it hard now..... I expected a stall to be coming after dropping 36 lbs in five weeks but not a gain. Has this happened to anybody else? How concerned should I be? I am seriously bummed out and worried.

Well, My Dad's Not Very Happy.

First off... Wow! I am sorry you are going through that. It is a difficult decision for all of us to begin with. I know a lot of pain, effort and thought goes into the process and going through it with out the much needed support makes it even more difficult. Ultimately, it is your choice. I know its not much consolation but there is a group of people here who, no matter what, will support you as best they can. I wish you the best of luck and sincerely hope your dad will come around to be supportive. Best wishes and prayers!

    "mommy Are You Smaller Yet?"

My younger son, 9 yrs old, had similar issues. He didn't want his dad to look different than what he is used to. Change can be hard on kids but I also think they are so very adaptable. It doesn't happen over night and they adjust as we change. For a lot of people here, our kids or loved ones are a major reason we have the surgery. We simply want to be with them as long as we can. Good luck and best wishes.

Is Hunger Still Normal For You?

Lucky you!!!! I still feel hunger but it is not nearly like it was before surgery when I felt hungry a lot of the time.
  6. I took Zantac almost every night before bed. In addition, when I had my upper GI prior to surgery, the radiologist said my reflux went very high so it was clearly a problem. Post-op, I don't take any acid medication. I did take a PPI to keep stomach acid down and to help the inside of my stomach heal but I am off that now and have no problems. I think poor eating habits prior to surger contributed to my problems and now after the surgery, I obviously eat SOOO much better.

    New And Considering The Sleeve

The sleeve most certainly restricts how much you can eat. You feel it when you over-eat, even if its just one bite too many. My perspective is, that if I am only going to get in a single cup of food for a meal, it better be something that is going to help my body, provide nutrition and give me energy. Another positive aspect is the reduction of the hormone Ghrelin. Ghrelin is one of the major appetite stimulants in your body and it is produced by the stomach. Therefore, when 85% of your stomach is removed via the procedure, your appetite should lessen. Some people say they are no longer hungry. I don't find that to be the case but my hunger is usually real hunger and I don't have the cravings for carbs that I used to. On the sleeve, I have three meals and two Snacks. At least one of my snacks or meals is a protien shake and I strive for 80g of protien a day. In total, I take in between 700 & 1000 calories a day. When I exercise, (burn 200+) calories, I then end up netting between 500 & 800 calories. I hope this helps. There is so much information and helpful people on this forum so keep reading and asking questions.
  8. We had two different groups of scouts at the door, both daughters of friends so we try to be helpful. What we do, however, is freeze them or I bring them to work. Then I can push them on my co-workers instead of eating them myself. Although I still get hungry, I have successfuly avoided all the sugar. My kids and wife will eat the Cookies but they don't have the "control" issues that I had prior to being sleeved.... Good luck, stay firm. When you only get to eat a little, you better make sure your calories count.

    Valentine's Day Challenge!

Ok, this will be my first challenge........ I was sleeved 12/21/11 and I'm still riding the post-op weight loss but I am expecting the slow down to come. However, with my first challenge, I am trying to motivate my self to really kick butt. Setting a goal is kind of hit-or-miss but here goes. Surgery weight: 35.6 Current weight: 319.2 Valentines goal weight: 312.2 Final goal weight: 200

    Tough Days

The last couple of days have been tough. Yesterday I was sorta hungry but in looking back on my intake, I was right where I was supposed to be. I had my vitamins and fluids too. Normally, I get home and have so many things to do, running around with my two boys that I don't have time to be bored but the schedule has been good this week, therefore I have had some down time. Well, I was bored. TV doesn't interest me much. There are only a couple of programs I care to watch. I was too tired/lazy to work out so I sat there with my thoughts. I have that problem somtimes, I am bored stiff but to lazy to do anything about it. That was yesterday. Ultimately, I ended up reading for several hours. Although I slept well, I still feel tired. Now I feel bored at work instead of bored at home. One of my big motivations for surgery was to lose the weight and find that source of energy inside. I'm down 36 pounds in five weeks and I do feel better but I am not yet seeing an increase in energy. Let me know if you find my motivation some where, because I seem to have misplaced mine. LOL

    My Nails Won't Grow?!?

Are you getting enough protien? Are you sick of people asking you that? :-) Seriously, hair loss and nail growth could be a sign of not enough protein.

    Im Soo Sleepy

I'm with you!!! Yesterday was five weeks post-op and I have been dragging the last two days despite getting my protien, fluids and Vitamins. Howevr, with the help of some others here I feel that I'm not getting enough B12. So I'm going to work on that. I think part of it is mental for me. I see at being bored but to tired to do the things I want/should be doing.... I hope you get better soon.

    Tough Days

Music does it for me too. I don't know why but it does give me energy. Maybe as you mentioned, it keeps the brain stimulated. I have plenty to do at home and around the house. TV doesn't do it for me but I'm just not motivated to do those things. Probably part procrastination too.

    Post-Op Vitamins & Weight Loss

I just ordered a bottle of Bariatric fusion and comparing the B12 Im getting with what is recommended, I am clearly not getting enough. Until it comes I'm gonna up my dose of the current B12 sublingual I have. Thanks all!

    Post-Op Vitamins & Weight Loss

How many are you taking a day. The nice part about this one seems that it has both Calcium and B12 in the multi-Vitamin. Right now I take three different supplements (Multi, B12, Calcium)

About To Walk Out The Door To Start My New Journey!

You can always ask for something to "relax" you!!! Seriously.... I have had several surgeries (knee, foot, kidney) and no matter the surgery I get anxious before hand. Once I was stuck outside the OR on a bed by myself, almost like the forgot about me. Needless to say sitting there by myself, waiting to go into surgery with not a single distraction made it ten times worse. Now I make sure they give me a "relaxer" while waiting pre-op. Often times they do anyway. But there is no shame in getting a little help. It can be very, very stressful. I told another poster, that when you have second doubhts, think about all the thought and reasons why you wanted to do this and don't be overwhelmed with emotion right before surgery. You will do great and everything will be fine. Thoughts and prayers.

    Post-Op Vitamins & Weight Loss

Per my surgeon and NUT I should be taking Calcium, a Mutli-Vitamin and B12. My surgeon says that it takes close to two years to become B12 deficient. But B12 is obviously great for energy. I am pretty sure my program recomends 2000 B12 over the course of a week and 1000 Calcium in a day. What is everybody else doing?

    Tough Days

My food and vitamins have been right on. I work toward getting 80g of protien a day. Sometimes I fall short of that but nothing less than 60g. I also take sublingual B12 4 times a week. Getting about 2000mg a week which I think is the recommended amount. I think my problem is more mental than physical. I've been taking depression meds for about six years now and it seems to go in cycles, this is probably one of the lows that come around once in a while. I'm gonna hit the treadmill tonight when I get home no matter how I feel and see if that can shake this funk. Thanks for the advice. Take care!

    Caloric Intake Too Low?

I used a shot glass, is that bad? I collect them from places we vistit and they are eash to wash.... Good luck and heal fast. Pretty soon, you will be dropping weight in buckets.....
  20. Hey Rachel, you and I are about at the same point. I was sleeved on 12/21 so I got a week on you. I too like your goals list. I might have to put that in my signature as well. Just yesterday I started looking at the "race" schedule for 5Ks around me in the May/June time frame. Unfortuately, instead of going home and jumping on the treadmill. I was lazy and read instead. I feel better after losing 36lbs but still not finding that energy source I'm missing. Good luck and take care!
