    Missrepresentation

I think people call you too skinny because they are too lazy to adjust. They are used to relating to the larger you and it requires too much depth of character for them to realize that you are the same person. Too skinny in what way? Healthwise? Have them site their medical reasons and test results. Aesthetics? Every see a super-model? Survival? Expecting an extended famine and the extra fat will be needed? Sheesh! If I wasn't married to a people I wouldn't have anything to do with them.
  4. Dec. 2009 Apr. 21, 2012 In 2009 I weighed 300 pounds and had just gone through radiation treatment, chemo, Lupron,(hormone therapy), and steroids for prostate cancer. I went up to 330 before I started my bariatric program. Today I weigh 254 and feel entirely different. I got tired of explaining the difference to folks I showed my drivers license to, so wife and I had new pics made today.
  5. I am 3 months post-op and have found a need for cereal, just not the sugary kind. I take a small amount of Fiber One with a little skim milk and Splenda. Part of my program is keeping my bowels regular. The cereal combined with 2 figs a day, some salad, a few walnuts, and proper Water drinking is doing the trick. I got a piece of wrapped candy the other day and had to spit it out. The ultra-sweetness disgusted me. One can lose the craving.

    Dl Face Pics

........................ Thanks, everyone!!!! When my wife first brought up bariatric surgery I raved in opposition. I had an airtight case for opposing it using the "like having a gun to your head" analogy. Then I did some internet research and the clincher: I went to a support group meeting held by the surgeon. When it was over I flabbergasted my wife by announcing that I not only supported her but was considering it for myself. I nobly told her that if the ship was sinking, I would go down with her. As it turned out, the ship was the Titanic, (the old fat life), we got into the lifeboat.

Me pretty Roux N Y wife's pics: Aug. 28, 2011 Apr. 21, 2012 She's going on a cruise and was rightfully concerned about being hassled by security about her license.
  8. I have been taking green tea extract in the morning. My way is not for the weak of stomach. I put 1/2 teaspoon in a small cup, run some hot Water in it, put in some Splenda, stir, and slug her down. This has got to be the vilest most diabolical liquid ever to test the gag response. Why don't I take capsules? I think this extract powder, which I get from 1Fast400, is more potent at 50% EGCG. I tried a capsule machine but it was a supreme hassle to me. So I toughened up. Green tea has benefits as talked about by the 3 fat chicks on a diet website: Breakfast. No use prolonging the agony.
  9. I had a pretty good one yesterday. I mowed the lawn without heavy breathing and had energy to take my granddaughter to Dairy Queen, ( I know what you're thinking, I just had 1/2 cup of chili ).

I have been getting called "dad" in resturants a lot, sitting with my daughter who is 36 and my granddaughters who are 13 and 10. I am 63.

Good job! You look noticeably younger to me, as well.
  13. My wife had Roux N Y in Dec. 2011 and is just now getting off of the Cpap that she has been on for many years. She has lost nearly 70 pounds. I have been on one for years as well and am on and off with it, close to getting off permanently. We take turns watching each other sleeping to make sure the snoring is minimal and no periods of breathing cessation. We both settled on the nose piece after numerous attempts at face masks, just less invasive. It does take a period of adjustment but it is a blessing when your oxygen levels and sleep improves.
  14. It's 2061 and the comet that has latched itself into orbit around the earth is giving off an odd lethal radiation. Scientists have discovered that the only ones immune from the radiation are the morbidly obese. The president's wife is ordering all restaurants to triple the portions and cook in animal grease. The gastric bypassers and sleevers are now at a disadvantage. What would you do to defeat your tool and pack on the pounds as quickly as possible? (The proceeding was a fictional scenario. Do not go out and invest in lard futures. )

    Defeating The Vsg

I was having a conversation with my wife about how anyone could possibly defeat the VSG or a Roux N Y. Our only conclusion was eating all day long. As fast as room is made, put some more in. I have had days where head hunger would push me to do it if I let it. Resistence to stupidity is still required after bariatric surgery. The sleeve only takes us so far, our brain takes us home.

    Eating Out On Vacation

I went on vacation to Florida April 1-7. I didn't weigh myself the whole time. I just followed the protein first rule and lots of water. I had lost 3 pounds I discovered when I weighed myself back home.. Lots of walking at Busch Gardens and fighting the surf with granddaughters at Siesta Key Beach no doubt brought about the suprising results.

    Defeating The Vsg

I shoulda known this scenario wouldn't go over with you fanatics, you've been through too much to give it up. I'd be right there with ya, standing tall and radiated in skinny defiance. I was kind of trying to come at sleeving through the back door, in reverse, what you would do to wreck it all. In other words, what you should not do, ...if you want to ruin yourselves do these things.

Calling All Men To The Man Room!

Hiya, Sergeant. Had my sleeve on Jan. 16. I have lost an average of 1/2 pound a day, slower now than when I first got out of the operation. Diligence in portions, Protein, exercise, Water drinking makes the difference. It is a big blast to get into these smaller clothes. May your sleeve serve you well!

The Fat Trap: Is Vsg An Escape?

The medial profession reminds me of someone trying to steer a 3,000 ft. ocean liner; takes a long time to turn. They don't want to get out of what they consider the main stream. That, coupled with their ties to the pharmaceutical industry, and just plain laziness in research keeps them stuck to the status quo.

    Coffee Post Op

BUT, most coffee has a high acid content and can raise the dickens with heartburning. It also increases my appetite, I don't know about others. My compromise is a small expresso. Low in volume but high in coffeeness.

    Coffee Post Op

I believe the caffeine dehydration thing is a myth. Here is an article that backs that: http://www.medicinen...rticlekey=50654 A quote from the article which was originally on WebMD.com: Myth No. 2: Caffeinated beverages make you dehydrated Not true. "For years, newspaper and magazine articles have repeated the notion that caffeine is dehydrating as if it's absolute fact," says University of Nebraska researcher Ann Grandjean, EdD. But in a study published in the October 2000 Journal of the American College of Nutrition, Grandjean and her colleagues at the Center for Human Nutrition showed that it's pure fantasy. The researchers looked at how different combinations of Water, coffee, and caffeinated colas affected hydration levels in a group of 18 men between the ages of 24 and 39. During one phase of the experiment, the only Fluid the volunteers consumed was water. During another, 75% of their intake was caffeinated. "Using almost every test ever devised to measure dehydration, we found no difference at all," says Grandjean.

    66 and sleeved!

I found this quote on a forum which I think makes a valid point: Most morbidly obese people have way more ghrelin than normal weighted people, as much as three times as much. So getting rid of some of it isn't the same as when someone with normal ghrelin reduces their ghrelin. Btw, partial gastrectomies have been done for decades and memory loss isn't mentioned as a complication of them. Finally, obesity has been linked to memory diseases such as alzhimers so by losing weight, we are lowering our risks of having memory problems. Also, ghrelin is produced by other parts of the body besides the stomach and the body eventually adjusts. In my personal experience, my memory and mind are getting sharper since surgery. My younger personality is coming back...for good or bad.
  24. I had way too much coffee yesterday. Lessons learned: coffee DOES increase appetite! I also bit my nails like an expectant father. I had a number of times I had to get out of bed last night because of fast onslaught heartburn, caused, no doubt, by the acid in the coffee. I was out of Alka-Selzers and TUMS but I took some anti-gas pills and got some relief. I guess the rules apply, EVEN TO ME!
