  1. I think it does help with the appetite. I do green tea extract powder in hot Water in a nasty shot in the morning which I have to chase with something quickly. I don't know if it is the revulsion from the evil brew or it's innate ability to assuage the hunger but the effect is the same; less appetite. It is supposed to help burn fat, too, something that I haven't tested scientifically but I think so anyway.

    Heartbroken

Brickhouse, Sorry to hear of your cancer but I am glad they got all of it. I was treated for prostate cancer in 2009 which included chemo. I was sleeved in Jan of this year and am 2 pounds from goal. I am very strong and extremely happy with the results. I think the Lupron, ( a hormone, a testosterone blocker), and the steroids they gave me during chemo helped pack on weight which I found very difficult to shed. The sleeve was the tool that helped me kick it out. My prayers are with you. You can do it!

    Instead of pizza

In truth, when the family orders pizza, I get one slice, cut it in half, eat the non-crust half, I'm done. This from a guy that used to order 2 pizzas, one for the family, one for me.
  4. It sounds like you are doing great! You are getting more water in than I could at that stage. It sounds normal to me for now.

    Instead of pizza

You beat me to it. I make a pizza burrito. Slap the stuff in, roll it up, in and out of the microwave, or if my wife's doing it, the oven.
  6. You look great, you slimmed down Holly, 'tis the season to be jolly! Good work and congratulations!

    So Freaking Happy

There's another wave coming. If you thought this was good wait until you move down the rack at the clothing stores. And there's the energy wave and the no longer avoiding mirrors wave. Surf's up!

    One Of Those Days

I don't let up on myself even if I miss my workout day. I redefine it as an extra recovery day and determine to blast even harder when I resume. I am permanently in training. I am not trying to reach a specific goal in numbers, I am pushing my body to be all it can be at 63. Jason Nesmith: Never give up. Never surrender. Galaxy Quest

    Motivation?

How do you work out when you are home? Do you fly or drive to your work area? There are many exercises you can do in a hotel room. I would do push-ups, crunches, knee bends, and calisthenics. If you drive you could bring exercise bands, kettle bells, and/or dumbbells. Running in place or jumping rope work well for aerobics or running in the neighborhood of the hotel if it is not too hostile. Exercise is a habit you have to fight your way into but gains momentum once the results begin showing up. Consider yourself always in a state of training for the rest of your life. Permanent works better than temporary in mindset terms. Our sleeve permanently modified our eating. We need an exercise program to match for our activity.

    Firefighter

My brother is a retired fireman. I believe firemen in general are a pretty intelligent bunch. I would have some printed material to leave with them. Have your reasoning well in mind and emphasize that you will be a better fireman when it all works out. I can tell you that you will definitely have more wind and stamina. I would not come across as if you were just toying with the idea of VSG, I would talk like it is a done deal.
  12. I was told to lay low on the fat for a while. No other changes outside of feeling better were noticed.
  13. I had my gall bladder removed about 2 weeks before my sleeve surgery. I had a major painful attack and the doc hated it but felt he had to remove it even though he could have done it two weeks later, (he could not move up my vs surgery). I totally agreed with him. I had these attacks before and didn't know what they were. I can assure you, you don't want a gall stone/gall bladder attack. Misery is well defined by them.

    Fl Sleeves

Sorry, shortcop, for hijacking your thread. You know how nutty us transplants get about "coming down". Sort list for why I love Florida: beauty, fun, people, opportunity, weather. I liked Ohio but I love Florida.

    Scared And Nervouse

It is OK to be nervous. Surgery is always a major step not to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly. This forum has the bright side and the possible complication side of this procedure. As you know, being overweight has danger as well. Many people here have decided that the risks of surgery are not as bad as the risks of staying overweight. They have determined that diets have failed and will continue to fail them. This is a drastic step but in my case it was a good step. You must decide if it would be good for you.

    Sleeved Today!

Sounds like all is well with you thus far. Fantastic! I'm glad to see you've done your homework. Now it pays off. Studying about holes and avoiding them is better than breaking a leg stepping into one.

    Nightmare...

So sorry to hear about what your mom is going through. It must be very difficult for you as well. I will be offering prayers for you both. There are folks who have had complications, some very severe. There is a forum here, http://www.verticals...-support-group/ where complications are discussed in depth. Please keep us updated. Feel free to ask any questions or vent. There are many good folks in here who want to help if possible.

    Coffee

Coffee...good. Sometimes too much builds up acid....bad.
  21. I have a problem with popcorn because of having had diverticulitus several times and not wanting a reoccurance. But corn? Interesting....
  22. Now I am getting into HIIT, High Intensity Interval Training. Short bursts of full out running followed by short periods of walking , 8-12 cycles. Intense it is and I think effective. I feel energized afterward rather than run down like after long exercise periods.

  25. You are working hard for your life, losing your weight and getting an education. The sleeve was a drastic step but we all understand drastic steps here. You are taking charge. Good for you! One coffin nail does not an ulcer make. Get em together and they make a death box. You know that. To handle stress go shopping and run up your parent's Master Card. Kidding.
