My wife got the Roux N Y surgery about a month before I got sleeved. We are in a race to our goal. She is at 160, I am at 260, so she spots me a 100 pound handicap for being a 6'2" man. We seem to be dropping at about the same rate, her advantage is the malabsorbtion provided by the Roux N Y, my advantage is my man muscles and higher testosterone. The finish line is the 20's; 120 for her, 220 for me. She does more aerobics, I do push-ups, knee bends, and work out on a Bow-flex type machine. Who would you bet on? We haven't decided what the winning prize will be yet we just know it won't be food related.

Sleeve Vs Roux N Y...the Race Is On!
gmanbat replied to gmanbat's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
We haven't decided what her prize is but she wants to take me on a cruise. Never ending food choices for tiny eaters, we won't waste much time with gorging. Just being with her is a treat. Check her out in her Ed Hardy t-shirt. Jan 13, 2013 at Busch Gardens in Florida -

im beginning to think sleeve surgery is a scam
gmanbat replied to kizzy's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You have lost in one month about 1/3 of what I lost after surgery....in a whole year! Now I'm thinking maybe I got scammed. -

Ya, I'm afraid Obama's gonna take my tactical assault cane away!

Are you talking about Dade County? I'm in Dade City, Northeast of Tampa. No CSI here, just intense investigations of old farts beating people with canes.

My wife and I both had surgery, me with the sleeve, her with a Gastric Bypass. She has met and passed her goal, I am 1 pound away. We hug a lot. We are having a hard time getting used to our arms going all the way around.

I think my nightmare has come true.....
gmanbat replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just lost one of my two last pounds to goal, after an almost 3 month stall. In the mean time I am looking better, clothes like me, except for this exiting cold I am quite healthy. Stalls can't stop you. Some enemies die hard. -
There is a warning about Java given out by homeland security. Java needs to be disabled temporarily. Hackers can do there malicious thing through it. When Oracle fixes it I will enable it again. It enables some of the functions here but the site is still usable. http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2013/01/12/us-government-advises-computer-users-to-disable-java-software/?test=latestnews Edit: Yikes, I couldn' get into my bank account without java. I enabled it to get in and decided to fix this link as well. Hurry up, Oracle!

Yes, I told her. She smiled brightly. But then, she smiles a lot lately. I love to see the look in her eyes when she gets dressed up in new clothes and then asks me how she looks. Before it was a look of dread, not that I would ever say anything bad but only that she wouldn't believe my compliments. Now she looks like she knows the answer already; she looks like a million bucks! She's a classy lady, I love to watch her strut. She earned it.

http://www.webmd.com/diet/rm-quiz-caffeine-myths I thought I knew my favorite drug of abuse but they got me a few times. 53%! Pathetic! I must say in my defense that I just answered anything a couple times just to see the answer. What's your percentage?

Keep your eyes on the prize. Make plans for meals, exercise post sleeve. Enjoy your life as it is now and look forward to the new you. You are not just reducing you are being released. The liquid diet before surgery is notorious for being hard to take. You are not alone. Tough it out, you are investing a tough now for a much better tomorrow.

Amount of Food and Your Mind
gmanbat replied to Dreamingofhealth's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ya, I go to restaurants and feel a bit sad that I can't shove it in like before. Then I look down and notice the space between me and the table of the booth and that it is no longer pushing into me with half of my pot gut on top and the other half bulging underneath. I went through a phase where normal eaters disgusted me. Was I ever such a gorging, lip smacking piggie? Sure were. -

You adjust to it. I concentrate on the flavors, I linger over each bite like it's the last delicious food I will ever eat, I let the essense of sensual fulfillment sweep over me like a wave of warm scented oil, I Celebrate the party in my mouth and make it last as long as possible before commiting it to my small depository. OK, a bit too dramatic. -
I see the difference. Good work!!!!!

Wow, pretty accurate dreams! Skinny, only eating a few bites, feeling full,.... yup. Throwing up doesn't happen very often, though, for me. I know what brings it on when I do. My dreams are normally far more removed from reality. I would say you are quite rational.

Hopefully the Beginning of the End?
gmanbat replied to Clefairy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome!!!! I could not lose weight for many reasons including cancer treatment that made me susceptible to weight gain. I was 63 and had my sleeve gastronomy in Jan. 2012. I am down over 100 pounds since the pre-op diet started. I am 2 pounds from my goal and in very good physical shape. I would not go back and change my decision. My life has been so enriched by getting rid of this excess me. The sleeve is just a tool, the mind makes it work. Educate yourself, know what to expect, and understand that this is a permanent change, not a diet plan. It has risks but so does obesity. You must determine which is more detrimental to you and if the rewards are worth the risk. -

How I keep from over eating!
gmanbat replied to UndercoverBariatricGal's topic in Food and Nutrition
I will post something I found on another forum: Part of what gives us that "full feeling" after we eat is the effect that stretching has on the stomach. Stretch receptors in the lower part of the stomach antrum signal the brain as the stomach fills up. With the sleeve food is essentially funneled to the antrum receptors which signal fullness much sooner than they normally would. The stomach is size restricted and that means that the antrum signals fullness at the slightest filling. The stomach we have left minus the fundus is essentially muscle and being muscle it has a limited expanding capacity. Over time the stomach will stretch some, but never get back to pre-surgery size. That being said here is a statistical study I found: A team of surgeons at the University of Chile, led by Dr. Italo Braghetto, have conducted measurements of stomach capacity with patients who have undergone sleeve gastrectomies, checking their stomach capacity within three days of their surgery and again after two years. This study, reported in the journal Obesity Surgery in January 2009, followed fifteen patients and found that the average stomach capacity did increase significantly over the two years after their surgeries. In fact, the average gastric capacity had more than doubled. These same patients had, for the most part, maintained their weight loss and had average Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 (although an increase in BMI was seen in a few patients). The stomach's studied expanded to over double their size which would max out at maybe, 6 to 10 ounces (estimating that your sleeve holds 2 to 4 oz at surgery). Well a normal stomach holds on average 1 liter, which is over 33 ounces and can expand to 4 liters, which is over 132 ounces or roughly 8 lb of solid food. How many sleevers do you know that can eat even a pound of solid food? So even if your sleeve stretched like crazy it is still going to be way smaller, at least 3 times smaller than the average person's stomach. Also, understand that they checked the stomach's capacity after only 3 days after surgery. We know that the stomach is swollen at that time and has less capacity. So the stretching ratio would be less. -
So it started out thankful for ALL the posts. Then thankful for respectful posts. Then all the posters EXCEPT those who have a sense of entitlement for rudeness, looking down on others, and stating what they think is stupid or not. So isn't your post of thankfulness just a sugary way of slamming folks who don't post the way you want them to? I don't like rude posts either. I don't like veiled slams even more. They insult the intelligence.
