Belly not touching steering wheel
gmanbat replied to selbradey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like that one! I also like sitting in booths in steak houses and not having half of my belly laying on top of the table and the other half bulging underneath. In the old days it got even worse after slugging down peanuts, steak, rolls, salad, potatoes, Beans, green beans, ice tea, and, of course, dessert. Now I split a steak with my wife, cut that in half and take home the other half of a half, hit a few beans and a bite or 2 of salad, and then sit around and watch the stretchy bellies pack it in. No regrets!!!! -
Good luck! I hesitate to give you advice on this matter but I will tell you that talking too much can give the wrong impression. I told the psych about my 2 years in the 60's when I was a hippy, I've been straight ever since. I was then then turned down for drug abuse and a rebellious nature. My bariatric doc was furious, sent off a letter, and got me approved.

Exercise puts water in your muscles. They need it to repair. In the long run the fat comes off. I always gain weight the day after exercise. Eventually, I lost all the fat to my goal weight and am growing a nice set of muscles, for an old fart that is. -

Paul Revere D**k and the Raiders, (his real name), Andy D**k, D**k Clark, D**k the movie, D**k's Sporting Goods, and D**k the flame thrower. OK, I made up the flame thrower one, a take off on Yogurt's "merchandising" in Spaceballs. -
Losing weight or losing inches? Which is better in your opinion?
gmanbat replied to does not matter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yesterday my wife and I went through my closet yet again and gathered a large trash bag full of clothes for Goodwill Industries. They are getting some pretty new stuff this time. I think this is the third time I made a purge like this. The thing is that I lost enough inches to make my clothes unwearable but didn't lose that much weight this last go round. I am exercising like an athlete and my body is getting in better shape than it was in my upper 20's, (I am 64). What the scale says is a non-issue now. The fat comes off, the muscle goes on, and the gman gets naughty looks from wifey. -
TUMMY TUCK TOMORROW MORNING
gmanbat replied to frumpynomore's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
In my mind what matters most is the shape, not the discoloration or the scars. Your shape is phenomonal and you already look fantastic in clothes, I would wager. You were born in 1963, that belly could belong to a 20 year old! Congratulations!! -
New study on exercise and depression in bariatric surgery patients
gmanbat replied to Richard Foor's topic in Fitness & Exercise
2013me and Richardpoor I certainly tip my hat to you and if you don't mind i send my prayers as well. Autism can be quite stressful, I spent years as a school aide dealing with the condition in children. It was during that time that I was put on high blood pressure meds which I have recently kicked due to the sleeve. I was on celexa as well during that time and had a very hard time kicking it, not because it was addicting but because the withdrawal symptoms were a bear. I have found exercise to be a major stress reliever. The better shape I get in, the better it works. Outside of dealing with the pain of sore muscles, (I am 64 after all), it is quite a positive in my life. Exercise seems to keep the shiny edge on my outlook. -
New study on exercise and depression in bariatric surgery patients
gmanbat replied to Richard Foor's topic in Fitness & Exercise
The researchers found that the more exercise the participants got, the less likely they were to have symptoms of anxiety or depression The study also said 8 minutes a day or 1 hour a week minimum to shake the blues. Don't try to get your exercise in all in 1 hour a week. 3 times a week sounds better to me, at least a half hour a session each. -
Looks like we are paddling upstream for the rest of our lives. We can't quit paddling or we'll drift back. Is it worth the effort? I think so....I prefer the ongoing effort to the misery of girth and gravity.
-
It most certainly is an addiction. I find myself thinking about when I can get away with having another session without overtraining. What a change from avoiding movement because of the discomfort involved and the breatless effort required to net little result! A well treated body carries it's own high!

http://healthuncut.com/2012/07/the-anabolic-window-is-it-a-myth/ This article says getting a pre-workout shot of aminos and glucose/carbs will do you much good. A scoop of whey and 30 grams of carbs of some type, timed correctly before workout will help you build. I found it on the internet so you know it has to be true.

Afraid i wont be "granted" a sleeve

That's rough. My prayers for your husband and you, too. Just present your case and hope for compassion. Don't give up! -
I have a cat that I insult constantly. I say, "Tigger, you are just a cat and not a very good one. Your fur flies in the air, you lick yourself, you smell bad, and your voice sounds like a mosquito." He just comes over and rubs up against me. I guess it's because I use tender tones when I'm ripping him and his kitty heart knows that I really do like him. It takes a lot to comunicate so that others get what we mean and for us to interpret what is coming at us. Tigger is great at sensing, not so hot at English. He probably picks up signals that we miss. I understand his messages to me, though. I'm his bestest buddie.

Hi fitness freaks, My new wrinkle for my aerobics days is running intervals up a killer hill next to my house. After a warm up I hit the bottom of the hill and run full speed up as far as I can get in 30 seconds while pumping 5 pound hand weights. I then walk back down swinging the weights around. Today I did 6 cycles.. number 6 was a real puff fest. Afterward, cool down time and then some push ups. I don't run down the hill because I think it would destroy my knees, I am liking interval training. I think it gives good results without wearing out my 64 year old body as much as longer training times. I have a big jar of powdered micronized glutamine that I got from bodybuilding.com. I believe it helps greatly in recovery, another thing harder to come by at my age. I take 10 grams before workout and 10 grams after with a whey powder/banana/peanut butter shake. Also, 5 grams at bedtime on workout days. Whatcha think?

I looked up Animal PM on Bodybuilding.com. Very interesting stuff. I have been taking magnesium and melatonin pretty regularly. I have taken ZMA in the past with good results which this formula contains. I think I may give it a shot. sleep is hard to get for me many nights. I have to revert to daytime naps which many older geezers like me do. I get a lot of looks around my neighborhood when I'm out. I also take a 20 pound kettlebell on walks and swing it all over the place while I'm walking. I look pretty screwy to folks judging by the stares.

Pneumonia is nasty, I've been there a couple of times. I hope you shake that stuff real quick.

http://thepepperseed.com/peppers/trinidad-scorpion-moruga-the-worlds-hottest-chilli-pepper/ The Trinidad Scorpian Butch T pepper, now at 2,000,000 Scoville heat units. It is the level of law enforcement grade pepper spray. By comparison, a Red Savina Habenero ranges between 350,000-580,000. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoville_scale I would avoid this one for a little while after surgery......about 50 years should be sufficient.

Yes, I eat veggies and fruit. Protein first, though. What I don't eat is high sugar things. Those things make me feel terrible, heart racing and nauseous. I can eat cereal now, but not much.

CARS BURIED IN SNOW...DOORS N WINDOWS ARE BLOCKED! SNOWED IN...CONNECTICUT
gmanbat replied to dat_sweetmami's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
By the way, despite the fire ants, I love Florida with a passion. The warm air more than makes up for missing season changes. Constant things to do, festivals all the time, beaches, museums, much more. On Friday I saw Paul Revere and the Raiders, tonight I saw Steppenwolf both at Busch Gardens, free concerts, both awesome!. We do have platinum passes though, 15 months of entrance to Busch Gardens in Tampa and Sea World in Orlando, well worth the money.
