Does this ever NOT WORK for anyone?
gmanbat replied to tnellp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Literally, not full, maybe abundantly feciated. Metaphorically, depends on what one defines as sh*t. One man's sh*t is another man's potpourri. To be full of it can be good or crappy. -

Good point, Rebecca. Elimination is the oft forgotten element of weight loss. Water consumption is paramount, harder to get in the beginning is Fiber with our emphasis on Protein. Benefiber is helpful before adequate vegetable intake is possible. Exercise is an element as well. I remember taking a friend of mine for a one day free workout at my gym. He weighed himself and then did a light workout . He was quite a sedentary guy so the light workout was a big deal for him. He got a tremendous stomach pain and went to the bathroom. He emerged smiling a few minutes later and promptly weighed himself. 3 pounds lighter. -
Can't Drink Water At All

http://www.livestrong.com/article/75486-foods-lower-stomach-acid/ Contrary to what you would think, lemons lower acid. Reflux is a common ailment for sleevers including me. Your idea of lemon and cucumber slices in a pitcher of water is good juju! -
Debbie and I have spent the last few weeks helping my brother-in-law and dear friend who is in his 80's deal with a blood build up in his brain caused by a fall. I have held him up, picked him up, and generally guided him through his days before he went into surgery. Now we are at the hospital every day helping him and my sister-in-law cope with the ordeal. Debbie is out today doing her sister's job, cleaning houses, so her sister can stay with her husband in the hospital and still have an income. My friend, his wife, daughters and other relatives cannot thank us enough for our love and care for him. We deem it our great privilege. Over a year ago neither Debbie nor I would have had the strength do any of this. Knowing the limitations of our energy we would not have had the desire to help. But now, after losing over 100 pounds each, we have energy that's aching to be used. We've gone from reluctance to move at all to joyful anticipation of activity. We've both gone back to our 20's and we have forgotten that we are in our 60's in the way we act, dress and think. This is one of the most rewarding NSV's we have ever had. Power to be helpful is a great treasure.

Can't Drink Water At All
gmanbat replied to aparker28110's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Getting a leak by drinking too much Water is improbable unless you slam it in quickly to the point of extreme pain. Drinking it a sip at a time with adequate intervals in between is the ticket. I still find water tough to take sometimes at over a year out. I still haven't figured out why it is ok at one time and causes heartburn another time. -
Does this ever NOT WORK for anyone?

I was a slow loser at first. It never was an issue for me whether it would work. I am a science oriented kinda guy. My research indicated that the possibility of it not working was remote to impossible. That much food in + regular activity and exercise when feasible = goal weight. My science was right, my sleeve-style kung-fu was strong. My time on the scale was really fascination as to how my body was dumping the fat, not doubt as to whether it would. My stalls were just a curiosity. -
I'm back and mad as hell!

Horrible! I am so sorry. I am glad you are coming out of this nightmare. My prayers for you. -
Due to a dear friend being in the hospital and requiring my help every day I have not been able to do exercises this week. I have lost 3 pounds, I am now down to 216, 4 pounds past my goal of 220. This confirms my theory that exercised muscles hold water until they are allowed to rest for a longer period. When I resume full blown exercise we will see where my weight levels out.

http://www.healthche...weightchart.htm This is a time when I actually look at the charts. Since health is my primary concern I look at the charts and I can get down to 197-155 for a 6'2" man. I am at 217 now and no one thinks I am fat anymore. I am concerned more with being healthy than looking good. I am quite unconcerned whether anyone thinks I look too skinny. It is amazing to me how easily people grant themselves credentials about any conceivable subject. So they are authorities on what is healthy and what is acceptable in a fashion sense. If folks would kiss my posterior as many times as it crossed my mind that they should I would need Desitin for the chapping.

Yes, it is addictive. I am suspicious. I think the clever administrators have figured out how to send subliminal messages printed in white so they can't be consiously seen, "Read the posts...post replies...don't leave...wake up and check it in the middle of the night..."

Up to 12 times up "killer hill" on Monday, full speed, 30 seconds at a time, with 5 pound hand weights. Time to step up the hand weights to 71/2 pounds. I might have to do less times up the hill. My belly continues to shrink even though my weight is pretty constant. Still drinking Amazing Green Grass drink in the morning with a bit of green tea extract and stevia. Loving it!

I went through that many times, staying the same and going UP as much as 5 pounds. Apparently, although I appeared to be going up and staying the same, the ground under me was slanted downward because I reached my goal and beyond. Optical illusions.

There was a pig farm next to where I used to live. I had to drive by it. There was nothing I could do about the smell. But I knew it was a pig farm and pig crap stinks. But that never stopped me from eating pork chops. Some people are pig crap. They are used to their own smell and see nothing wrong with their behavior. You are not responsible for their actions. You don't have to retaliate. You don't have to reform them. You have to live your life as happy as you can. Don't let their crap get to you. Who cares what they think? Good work on the weight loss!

How did you handle life after your body Changed?
gmanbat replied to KimmieMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is a fact that you can trade one addiction for another. Some of us have personalities that are prone to addictions. My history testifies that I am one of those people. Drugs, immorality, drinking, smoking, all have been my captors at times. food addiction was the latest of my jailers. I determined that losing fat and food addiction was a part of the me renaissance. I went to the one who promised freedom, the Son. He has strengthened me and led me to a freedom that I have never had before. I have found that freedom brings intimacy, with God and those around me. I am no longer hidden behind destructive compulsions and being at peace with and liking myself frees me to give love. I deem myself worthy and know that the love that I have to give is valuable. I have a new body but have no desire to betray my wife. My life is about much more than my body, it's just that my body does not stop me from life any more. Everything has taken on a new richness. I have power to go downhill but don't want to, the air is cleaner the higher you go. If I have an addiction now it would be exercise. I love it! I have a lot more energy and it feels so good to use it. It is much easier to tell if something is alive if it is moving. Exercise addiction can be a problem like any good thing taken to extremes. Having experience with all my other addictions I can tell when it is interfering with more important things or it becomes too exhausting or injurious. It is much easier to control than food cravings. -
Hi, Newgirl54. Best wishes for your coming operation!
-
My wife has the bypass, I have the sleeve. We are both below goal. We both know others who are successful with the bypass and the sleeve. We both know people who gained the weight back both ways but more so with the bypass in our experience. I do not want anyone to go through these operations and then have a futile outcome. Both ways can be defeated. Both ways can be successful. Perhaps your friend needs to reassure herself that she did the right operation. Especially since she doesn't seem to have her thinking right about food intake and is floundering. On the other hand realize that the failure of others has nothing to do with you. You will make this sleeve journey what it is by your own effort. If you doggedly persevere, you will be successful. Your triumph has nothing to do with the remarks of a so-called friend. It's your thinking that matters, not hers.

AM I DOOMED FOR FAILURE?
gmanbat replied to VS-Fat-To-Fit-Girl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some of your hunger causing ghrelin, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghrelin , is being removed and your stomach will be much smaller. You will feel full and won't be as hungry. I now can eat one potato chip, one square of Hershey's, one bite of ice cream. etc.. Taste matters now, not volume. One taste is enough to refresh my memory and satisfy me. I am released from the need to stuff. -
Daughter Seeking Information
gmanbat replied to SleeveDaughter's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I am not acquainted with "A Lighter Me" but I will respond to your post. My surgery had no complications, I have reached goal weight as you can see by my signature. The only problem now is occasional heartburn. Here is a video put up by one of our members that talks about VSG in comparison to RNY and Lapband: http://tinyurl.com/ctmrt8g This is a good article: http://www.fudiet.com/2012/03/carnie-wilson-has-2nd-bariatric-surgery-is-surgery-ever-the-right-choice/ -

VSG Vs RNY Vs Lapband for dummies
gmanbat replied to smbergie200's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the extensive video! I have a question for you which my RNY wife brought up. My doc tried to talk me into the bypass thinking I would not be able to lose the weight with a sleeve. He was wrong. He also said reflux was much more common with the sleeve. That has proven to be true. I had problems with heartburn before the operation and still do. It seems my worst heartburn comes on an empty stomach. Eating something relieves it. Any thoughts? -

Hairbrush Trick to Ease Indigestion?
gmanbat replied to PJinWashington's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I am driving home after a long absence from my wife I don't intend to violate the speed laws. It seems my accelerator foot is taking orders from somewhere other than the good intentions part of my brain. I have to check the speedometer often or I'll be writing a check in traffic court. Overeating can result from lack of concentration. Most folks here don't want to overeat. It can happen though, especially in the period when we are learning the way the sleeve talks to us. If brushing my hand can make me feel better I'll do it, but not in front of people who are looking for an excuse to have me committed.
