I'm curious if you come out of surgery hungry?
gmanbat replied to MaddieJ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like your ghelin took a big hit. A good thing if you can work past it. You probably know you have to work past hunger. We are used to eating because of it, at first you have to eat with it's absence. It's important to build up the Protein intake when you can. Muscle must be preserved so your metabolism isn't slowed. Sorry if I'm lecturing. -

gmanbat replied to MaddieJ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not hungry before or after. I was preoccupied with living through the operation. At 63 the odds were a bit lower. The first thing I did half way out of the anesthesia was mumble out a joke, my way of celebrating. It's the way of my family, never waste a serious situation by being serious. -
Getting co-workers to trumpet your success....
gmanbat posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Don't tell anyone about the surgery and then when they begin to ask how you are slimming up act like it's a big diet secret. As time goes on and you lose more they will press you more. When you have hooked the ones you want to get, let slip the following "super-diet" of foods that must be eaten in abundance: According to the American Gastroenterology Association, the most common gas producing foods include: cauliflower, brussels sprouts, dried Beans, broccoli, cabbage and bran. Your co-workers will be trumpeting your success. When you finally tell them about the operation, if they tell you you are an idiot for doing it remind them how they fell for the fart diet. -

I think most of the sly digs, if we could think of any, would go past us unnoticed. It would get pretty boring and we would have to start slugging each other to stay awake. Now it's a party! -
I am copying that, sounds delish! Thanks!

Gman's wing man: I must confess I did a bit of chewing and spitting but moved right into very small tasting and licking. My uncle used to gag me when he spit his tobaccy juice into a jar....reminded me of that.

I am a year and a half out and can eat sweets but I don't really like them. At first they gagged me. I used to be a spicy food nut, that's gone now. My main cravings are high Protein things, steak, eggs, whey powder, etc. I sometimes get a craving for salads. Superfood green drinks are my delight, the bestest way to start the day. -

My stepfather used to lecture me to no avail about the world shattering effect of leaving the cap off of the toothpaste. My teachers droned on and on in Charlie Brown's teacher quacking while my mind visited teenage playlands. I have been married for over 40 years and have an effective female frequency filter that I can kick on at my whim. The easiest yet are internet forums: one click turn-offs. Ignoring lectures are my specialty. -

I tried to do some research about what percentage of obese adults had obese parents but got nowhere. All I could find was that adolescent obesity becomes a bigger factor than genetics although that is still a factor. http://www.urmc.roch...1&ContentID=713 I would guess that many on this forum had obesity in their genes. I did on my father's side. But I also ate like Pac Man smoking grass. -

I would like to answer your lecture about lecturing but I'm afraid I might lecture. Edit: Oops, I think I just did. -
Regret telling people at work
gmanbat replied to iontash's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Many folks employ the pre-adolescent level tactic of elevating themselves by lowering everyone else. Many people see the stupidity of this illusion and by age 13 cease to employ it. Others refine it to an art and end up in politics. -
Don't you just love the inequality?
gmanbat replied to quackstitch's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Three times the insurance approved three separate operations, 2 wls for me and wife and a gall bladder removal for me. All three times they reneged on paying for the anesthetic, over $3,000 each. As if they wanted us to get cut open biting on a stick. We called and called and called and finally got someone who wasn't a screwball and got them paid. -
Actually 60 years later. This story with great pictures really touched me. I'm a sucker for mushy stories lately. http://www.viralnova...ge-sweethearts/

Early on I had a water bottle in my hand almost always. You can sip in a lot of liquid if you keep at it. The idea is to not put a lot of pressure on your recently stapled stomach. Taking it easy now will assure a good outcome.

Feeling super emotional today
gmanbat replied to wordygirl74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You show an awareness of the nature of this surgery. It will change your life. You will bid goodbye to former emotional supports and say hello to new strengths. It is a passage as profound as graduation or marriage. You are dying and being born at the same time. That which once defined you no longer will, you are writing a new identity. You are releasing into freedom the self that was always there and parting with the one that imprisoned you. You are a sentient being of immeasurable worth who treasures life. Your emotions are valid. My best to you. -
Why all the problems with Eggs?
gmanbat replied to Butterflyhigh's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I have never left eggs entirely. Egg drop soup in early stages, eggs in many forms since. They've never bothered me, the protein is great, and the taste twangs my buds. -
Taking large vitamins and what about aspirin?
gmanbat replied to MsSarena's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think aspirins are a problem. Tylenol is about the only thing recommended. Ibuprofen is not liked either but I take the gel caps sometimes. -

I chew big tablets up no matter how bad they taste. Just a foible of mine against tablets. I baby my stomach trying to make up for tearing it apart. -
I am 64 and mine are getting harder to find all the time. I didn't think they would fade so much. They are a non-factor now.

I have been assimilated into the collective of folks who think you look great. We are taking over. You must join us. Resistence is futile.
