I did have a two week liquid pre op diet and I am glad I did. By day 3 my cravings were gone and I had no desire to eat regular food, just wasn't hungry. Once I reached my surgery date I knew I had two more weeks of post op liquid diet and I wasn't worried about it, I had already done it for two weeks. And I have had no head hunger since day 3 of the pre op diet- this has made post op easier, IMO. Every surgeon has different requirements, the key is to be comfortable with and trust your surgeon. I am 4 days out and am sleeping on my side. I wedge myself with pillows on either side of me so I don't roll on my belly. I was told I could sleep on my side if I was comfortable. Done it the past two nights and everything is ok. Good Luck!

I am also having surgery tomorrow too. I am also very scared/nervous/anxious. We will get through this. By this time tomorrow we will be on the Loser's Bench! I will be thinking of you. Wishing you an easy, painless, and quick recovery!

My six year old is also scared. I realized though she thought I would look different as soon as I came home. She was afraid she wouldn't recognize me. Maybe that is what your daughter is thinking too.

It sounds like you had a wonderful Easter! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I too could not indulge in my usual Holiday fest but not because I have been sleeved, but because I am on my pre-op diet. And I ws so happy that it didn't even bother me that everyone was eating all my favorites and I couldn't even have a bite (liquid diet). It really did prove to me that life is about the people you share it with not the food you eat. Best of luck to you on your knee replacements.

I am suppose to have surgery on Wednesday and my DH tells me tonight he really doesn't want me to have surgery but will support my decision 100%, my MIL thinks I am going to die (and she's a nurse) and my mother is worried about anesthesia complications (which I have never had) for an 'unnecesary' procedure. Ugh. I really didn't need this so close to my surgery day! With so many so close to me being downers is making me second guess my decision. :-(

I am too - April 11. Pre-op diet hasn't been so bad - lost 11 lbs so far! Praying for all of us this week. Let us all know how your doing after surgery, when you can.

Thank you everyone for your kind, reassuring words. I did speak with them all this weekend and none had very compelling reasons for me not to go through with surgery - I think they are fearing the unknown. I have every intent to proceed with surgery as scheduled. I do have faith in God and that He put me on this path for a reason. Although I am fairly healthy for morbidly obese - an oxymoron, I know. I have had to remind myself that it is OK to put myself first before my 4 girls and my husband becasue I am working on being a healthier, better me! Thanks again for the pep talk - I certainly needed it!

Welcome! I am having surgery on the 11th. I just started my second week of the pre-op diet. Once I got past the first few days, my cravings subsided. I did have to come off of the Optifast products my doctor had me on though - they just didn't agree with my system. So now I am following a different liquid diet and it isn't too bad. Stick with it and GOOD LUCK!!! I will be watching for your updates.

Best of luck. If you have the option to avoid optifast go for it. I didn't have that option and am on Day 4 optifast. I will keeps you in my thoughts and prayers. If you don't mind me asking, who is your surgeon and what hospital? I am just down 95 from you in Stafford!

I have not experienced this problem, but being on a very low calorie diet such as Optifast can put you into ketosis so you would then have ketones in your urine. I will keep my fingers crossed for you today. Good Luck, keep us posted.

So this is a little TMI, but I don't know if I am sick or if the incredible stomach cramping/rumbling and diareaha are from the Optifast I started yestrday. Has anyone else experienced this?

My surgery is also scheduled for the 11th!! I don't live in WA, but I would be happy to keep in touch via PM, email or text. We can go through it together! I am nervous and excited, but can't wait either.

Sore nipples is a very normal sign of an impending period. Also an early sign of pregnancy. That is how I knew I was pregnant the last two times before the tests would even register a positive. Hormones are wonderdul - natures little warning signs. :-)

I am scheduled for April 11. I am scared/nervous about the 2 week Optifast pre-op diet, afraid of failing. I am also terrified of complications. I am a mother of 4 very active girls and need to be there as they grow! Its really a double edged sword because w/o the surgery I may not be there to watch them grow. I am confident in my surgeon so I am trying to stay positive and not let my natural paranoid, over analytical self take over. I am looking forward to watching myself and all the other April sleevers succeed in our journeys!!!! :-)

Congratulations Jimmy on taking the time for you. You are obviously a strong person if you could recognize that your mind, body and spirit weren't all ready at the same time for you to have your surgery. It sounds like you are in a great place now. I will also be sleeved in April and look forward to watching you succeed!

Could add chocolate flavored to your coffee for a mocha flavor. A cappucino flavored protein powder is a good idea, but I haven't found one yet either.
