I don't really have an interesting story. I'm a single mom who has decided she;s had enough of not being able to what I want in life. I'm tired of diets and made the decision to change how I eat. Unfortunately, previous injuries aggravated by my weight have made it difficult to exercise. My blood pressure, which has never been an issue, has also started to go up. Enough is enough. My youngest just turned 18 and I want to enjoy life again.
I spent a year or 2 doing the research on bariatric options. I wanted to make sure I went in with my eyes wide open. I finally ended up in a job with insurance that would cover the surgery. As we all probably know there are several hoops to jump through for insurance coverage. Sleep study, pysch evals, supervised weight management, etc. I managed to get through it all and was then denied. I thought it was all for nothing and ended up putting some of the weight I had lost during the program back on. Then the appeal was approved! Finally, this was going to happen!!
The worst part of the good news was that I was moving, changing jobs, and having surgery in the same month! Talk about stress. I resigned on the 13th of August, moved over the weekend of the 18th, my surgery was on the 22nd, and I start my new job on the 4th of September.
So now the surgery is over. Had a bit of a rough time in the hospital. Chest pains and nausea in recovery; thought I was having a heart attack. Thankfully that was cleared up...after an ultrasound and a meeting with a cardiologist. It ended up being an esophageal spasm from anesthesia. At least I know my heart is healthy :-)
Now I'm home and a week out of surgery. Still surrounded by boxes that need unpacking, but things are slowly coming together. Looking forward to the journey.
