  1. The OP and I were sleeved on the same day so I'm just over 5 months also. I didn't have any complications with my surgery, but the first few weeks were a bit of a struggle energy wise for me. Everything took so much out of me. Taking a shower, grocery shopping, cleaning my house, walking around at work. I was SO glad when i started feeling like myself again! I haven't had any issues with tolerating food. I fall into the "sleeve of steel" category. LOL! I'm down 83 pounds, all post op weight loss. I feel SO much better with this weight off! I still have a way to go, but I feel amazing! Sent from my iPhone using VST

African American Sleevers & Hair Loss

Unfortunately, if the hair loss is going to happen it'll happen. Get your Protein, take your Vitamins and hopefully you won't experience much. But I've read stories on these forums from people who NEVER met protein goals and never loss hair. I've read about people who ALWAYS met goals and had tons of hair loss. Go figure? I am a little over 5 months out and am experiencing some hair loss now. I am natural and wear my hair in a loose fro like style. I see the loss but don't think it's as noticeable to others as it would be if I were wearing it straight. May was really bad with daily loss. So far in June, I see it when I wash it mostly. I've taken 5000 mcg of Biotin daily since 2009. I wouldn't recommend relaxers, braids, sew ins, or quick weaves. I know you're like really, Pecan?! LOL! Just because you won't see the loss with these styles doesn't mean it won't happen. I have seen more loss when I even comb too much and do anything remotely stressful. I just do wash and gos now. I would wait and see how your hair does. Try doing sets on flexirods or something similar that can be maintained with little stress. Wigs are an option of you can tolerate them, but you must care for your hair underneath. Keep it clean and moisturized. On a positive note, your girl is down 83 pounds and CA-UUUTE!! You haven't been able to tell me NOTHIN'! I walk by reflection and think, "Brick House over here"! LOL!! Sent from my iPhone using VST
  4. You look GREAT, Sleeve Sister!! I've been wondering how you've been! Fabulous, girl! I started noticing the hair loss in May. I hope it slows down soon, also. You're almost home, Diva! Sent from my iPhone using VST

    African American Sleevers

Welcome and congrats on your surgery! A day to day pound fluctuation is completely normal. I am one that weighs daily but recognize that lots of things come in to play. My NUT told me that I'wereaa urine my pee and poop by weighing daily. LOL! Also, expect some stalls so you won't completely freak out when they happen. I stalled for 3 1/2 weeks in my second month and thought I would lose my mind! But now in my fifth month I'm down 82 lbs! Good luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using VST

  13. Maybe not use as much. Also, some people prefer Mio to CL. I wouldn't do a lot of stocking up just yet. Buy small quantities of items because your taste buds will likely change some. For the first few weeks after surgery, EVERYTHING was too sweet for me. CL, Protein Shakes, SF Popsicles, my chewable Vitamin - EVERYTHING. Some of what I bought is still in my pantry. LOL! Once I moved to solid foods, my taste buds regulated out close to where they were before. Now at 5 months out, nothing bothers me! Good luck with your surgery! Sent from my iPhone using VST

Why My Size Is The Same

LOL!!! Precisely the case for me! I am down 75 lbs since surgery and have just moved down one pant size. I have gone down several sizes in tops but bottoms are slow moving. My pants before surgery were TIIIIIIGGGHHHHTTTTT! Like completely uncomfortable. I'll never forget one morning last year, I was climbing into my Tahoe and ripped my pants completely down the seat! I could only thank God that I was in my garage and not out in public when that happened! Talk about a bad day! I was in 28s then. I've recently bought a few pairs of size 26 jeans and capris for the summer. I've worn 2 pairs of the 26s and have found that they are also big in the waist. I may be looking at 24s REAL soon. All of my 28s are ridiculously large now. To the point where they are unflattering and borderline silly. I LOVE that feeling!

    African American Sleevers

I am 5 months out today and started noticing hair loss about a month ago. I don't think it's noticeable to others, but I can tell. I am natural and wear my hair in a loose, curly fro. I can imagine that it would have been very noticeable if I was wearing it straight. The back has thinned to me so I've been pinning it up or wearing it in a large afro puff on top of my head. Hopefully, it will stop soon. But I'm down 75 lbs and look and feel SO good! It's worrisome, but I've been looking on the bright side of things. Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Do U Now Look Older?

I only know one person who's had the sleeve personally, but know plenty who've had RNY who look older. I think it's due to the rapid loss versus deficiencies. My neck has slimmed down SO much and I've noticed some slight excess skin. Not to the point where I think I look older, but I'm 34 and the skin is tightening up each week. If I were 50, I could see it being worse and actually bothering me. Sent from my iPhone using VST

  21. I was already on a daily Prilosec regimen before surgery. My surgeon warned me in advance that it would likely worsen afterwards. My reflux was completely controlled with one a day before being sleeved, but I had a difficult time with it during my first couple of months post op. My NP upped me to 2 per day and I haven't had any issues since. I don't want to stay on 2 per day forever, but am going to let it ride for now. The reflux was so bad that it kept me from sleeping some nights. I guess we'll see. My next appt is in July for my 6 month check up. I'll discuss some of these points with them then.
