I Feel Like Maybe I Should Cancel My Surgery?
MzPecanBrown replied to AllForMy4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on Jan. 10 and my surgeon did not require a pre op diet. I just had to do Clear liquids the day before drink the Mag Citrate. Up until the one day liquid diet, I had the biggest food funeral you can imagine. Went to all my favorite restaurants, had my favorite dishes during the holidays, Desserts, you name it. I had my consult with my surgeon 6 days before surgery and he asked me to cut back on really fatty foods for the final few days. He told me that it doesn't take long to shrink the liver. My surgery went smoothly with no complications. In fact, he called it "nice and boring". Now, by all means follow what your doc tells you! I am in no way encouraging anyone to break diets. Just sharing my experience with not being required to do one. By the way, I'm 11 days post op and down 18 lbs!! WOOO HOOO!! -
I had an IVC filter placed, also because I had a DVT in 2009. My doc wanted it as extra protection. I was given Lovenox twice a day while in the hospital and came home on my Coumadin/ Lovenox bridge 2 days after surgery. They also used the boots while in the hospital.

I'm in Greensboro. My surgery was through Duke, Dr. Portenier. Who are you with?
-
My surgery was Jan 10 - 1 week ago. I couldn't drink anything the day of surgery; just allowed mouth swabs. They started me on liquids the next morning - shakes, broth, juice, water, popscicles. I couldn't take much in there. I'm still not getting in the full 64 oz. but I'm doing much better.

I feel you, completely! I can't wait until I can move to soft foods. An egg sounds like steak to me right now! My team requires a 3 week liquid diet. I am one week out of surgery. My 3 week post op class and surgeon appt is on Feb 1. Then, I can move on. Of course, I wouldn't try anything foolish and attempt to eat at this point. In my pre-op class, the psych told us about a lady who attempted to liquify a pork chop in a blender. While in the hospital, my nurse told me about a lady who ate a bite of a cheeseburger during the first week and had to go back in for corrective surgery. CRA-ZY. Uh, no thanks!

Hi Swimmer! Where in NC? I am here too and was sleeved on January 10.
-
Hi all! I was sleeved on January 10! YAY! Things have been going ok so far. I couldn't do many of the Protein Shakes that I tried. I settled on Syntrax Nectar, which is pretty good! But I am ready to be done with this phase and move to soft foods. Good luck to all of you! Let me know if I can answer any questions for you!

Did Everyone Here Go On A Liquid Diet Before Surgery?
MzPecanBrown replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Very true. My surgery was laprascopic. I failed to mention that I had to do a clear liquid diet the day before surgery and drink a bottle of Magnesium Citrate. The Citrate was no fun.... Voodoo, does your surgery have to be an open incision? -

Did Everyone Here Go On A Liquid Diet Before Surgery?
MzPecanBrown replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was just sleeved a week ago. My surgeon did not require a 2 week liquid diet. I had my pre surgery consult with him a week prior and he asked that I cut back on my intake for the remaining days before surgery. I was still allowed to eat regular food. Honestly, I ate what I wanted up until the few days before he told me that. Then I avoided really fattening foods and was 5 lbs lighter the day of surgery. They didn't do any type of test on the liver before. I had no complications; he called my surgery "very boring". LOL! I told him that's how I'd like it to be! -

Hi all!! I'm very new here and haven't posted much. However, I did quite a bit of reading prior to my surgery this week. I look forward to becoming an active participant here! :-) My surgery was scheduled for 10 am on Tuesday, I was told to arrive at 8. My surgery didn't start until after 12 due to my surgeon's previous operation running over. All went well in the PACU. When I woke up in recovery, the first thing I thought was "what did I do to myself?!". The pain was VERY intense! I got into my room around 3:30. Things were better with the pump at that point. I was very excited to see my family but I soon drifted back off to sleep. I walked that evening around 9. I didn't sleep much that night. Walked again around 6 am on Day 2. Getting in and out of the bed were the worst parts. They removed the catheter around 10 and started my fluids. I was only able to tolerate around 16 oz that first day-mostly Water but a little juice, Protein shake, broth, and a Popsicle thrown in. They started me on oral pain meds that night and removed the pump. I walked again that night before bed. Forgot to mention that I was instructed to use an oral machine to clear my lungs 10 times per hour. That began to produce some coughing. I was discharged yesterday around 2:30 pm. I am excited to be home! Pain is better; I feel it when I move. sleeping was very difficult at home last night. I tried several positions but couldn't remain in them long due to discomfort. I am having difficulty getting my fluids in because I don't have a desire to drink anything. I am trying to stay away from the scale, but I came home 3 pounds heavier than my day of surgery. :-( I was told that was common due to gas and fluids from the hospital. Hopefully I'll see the scale move soon! I'm very happy to be sleeved and SO excited about what the future will bring! -

I'm so sorry! Sending hugs your way! I actually went to the ER last night for severe pain on the right side of my stomach. They did a CAT Scan and found a ruptured ovarian cyst on my right ovary. Of all times for this to happen! Doc told me that it would take a few days for this pain to pass. They gave me fluids while I was there so I don't have any dehydration symptoms today. But I'm still not taking much in. I've had very little Protein today. Please update me on how you're doing. I hope we both get better soon! -
2 Days Post Op. My Surgical Experience
MzPecanBrown replied to Mr_Worm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did a shot today but had to mix it with some water to stretch it out to abt 6 oz. It doesn't taste good but easier to get in than the shakes. The shot I use has 26g of protein in it. -

Fat4now, I'm having a rough time also. My first day home was decent, I only took one dose of pain medicine that evening. But last night I started hurting almost as bad as my day after surgery. Since then I've been taking meds every 6 hours. It's a little better now, but I would like that part to subside. I can deal with the fatigue without the pain. I intended to go back to work on Jan 23, but a lot will have to improve for that to happen. I'm having difficulty with fluids, also. I've done better today, taking in 24 oz so far. Yesterday, I only got 26 in by bedtime. I know I said I'd stop weighing daily but I did today. I've lost the 8 lbs of Fluid weight that I came home with on Thurs, which made me feel better. Not going to weigh again until next week. I wish I could fast foward 3 weeks. I hope you feel better soon! -

Thanks so much! Your story is very inspiring! One of the ladies who came to draw my blood in the hospital shared her story with me. She had RNY 2 years ago. She weighed 589 on the day of surgery and is now 191! She looked phenomenal! Though we had different operations, I LOVE to see someone with a WLS success surgery. I have a lot to lose. I was 401 on the day of surgery. I haven't mapped out all goals yet but I'd love to lose 200 lbs! I'm up for the challenge. Make room for me on the Loser's Bench! -

Thanks for the replies! I had lots of pillows last night but I slept straight up. I'll try the 45 degree tonight. And I'll stop weighing! I have that feeling to see immediate results. The last thing I want to do is fail. MiniMe, I don't have a recliner but I can imagine that being perfect! -
