Honestly, what is everyone eating 1-3 yrs post op
mick replied to nprcowboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anything I want to. Just not very much at a time. I don't tolerate the really hot/spicy stuff very well anymore. -
Can anyone tell me what laxative their doctor has suggested for constipation during the first few weeks post op? I am afraid to try just anything without some feedback on this.

Has your chronic back pain lessened with your weight loss?
mick replied to Lallylocks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My back pain was horrible and I definitely need surgery but the surgeon told me that i needed to lose 100 lbs before he would attempt the surgery. Since my sleeve i have been almost pain free except when I stand in one place too long. Just standing. As long as i am moving i am mostly pain free and i can walk much further than i used to before I start feeling back pain. Unless my pain gets worse i will not have the back surgery. I will just deal with it as i have for years but, thank God, it is not near as bad since I was sleeved. -
It is so refreshing to see someone give the Lord credit for such a wonderful blessing!

Your Thanksgiving Dinner Game Plan
mick replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
My plan is to enjoy good family fellowship, eat what ever I like and pay close attention to when i am starting to feel full. I may eat more than I should but it will take all day to do it and certainly not at one sitting like I used to do. Just being truthful. -
I think most of us went through that phase. Just have patience and recognize that you are healing and this lack of energy is just a part of that healing process. It lasted a few weeks with me and Now I feel great and I am full of energy. My surgery date was in July. I just turned 66 and cannot get over how good I feel. Having this surgery is the best decision I have made in years!

I did not do this so early as you are. It was really impressed on me to give my stomach time to heal and this is the main reason for continuing on a liquid diet. You don't need complications because you started too soon. I did the same thing with chicken breast but used chicken broth. Was really tasty. If you get a chance, try "Better than Bouillon" It is so much tastier than plain chicken broth. Each little tiny baby spoonful was delicious. My wife cooked some carrots, celery and potatoes with the chicken breast and pureed it for me with the same broth and it was really good too.

mick replied to Reddrobin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just turned 66. Lost over 60 lbs so far. Hypothyroidism does not seem to matter. I really don't exercise at all outside of my job but the weight is slowly coming off. My surgeon has had me on a low carb/high protein diet which I follow fairly close. -
And.... it's only for a few days! Are you pre or post op?

MAJORLY UPSET WITH UNJURY COMPANY
mick replied to 4LgrLife_53's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was just posting that it would all work out for you. Thank God! BTW I completely understand your frustration and need to vent. -
I pray that your recovery and progress will be as pain and trouble free as mine has. Just be careful and stay aware of how easy it is to get constipated. That has been my only problem and it can get to where the pain is just awful. As far as the food stages go, have patience and give your stomach plenty of time to heal. It seems like it is taking forever to get out of the liquid and puree stages but really it is only a few weeks and then you will be able to eat just about anything you want to. If I had it to do over again, knowing what I know now, I would just relax, take it slow and do EXACTLY what the Dr. recommends.

Lost 35 pounds since 10/8/14 surgery.
mick replied to Dulcemia00's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! I've only lost 30 lbs since July. Congratulations! -
I had acid reflux ever since my heart surgery and my surgeon fixed it when he did my sleeve. He said he would check and see if I had a Hiatal Hernia and I did.

July 23rd for me. You can puree chicken and it tastes great and goes down a little better but that's a lot of trouble and who wants to go back to that stage? So far I have not gotten tired of any of the foods I eat on a daily basis. Chicken and turkey breast, eggs, cottage cheese. I eat a lot of other stuff too but not every day like I do these. My surgeon and my primary are both really good about keeping an eye on my progress. My surgeon encourages me to contact him any time day or night if I have a problem. I encourage you to contact your doctor with this problem just in case it is something serious. Get some peace of mind and stay on top of this problem.

How do you respond to, "Wow, it looks like you're still losing" or "How much more weight are you planning to lose?"
mick replied to Comfy_Blue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad to hear my co workers say nice things about my weight loss. Bring it on! I just don't want to go to the extreme so that i look all sucked up and people begin to tell me I am losing too much weight. I have said that about other friends of mine. That was one of the major problems with being so over weight. "You need to lose weight" "Being that heavy is not good for you" We do care what other folks think about us. Especially the looks without a comment. You know what I mean. They look at your size and you can tell by the look on their face what they are thinking. I thought I would never hear those comments about my weight loss. Trapped and destined to die grossly overweight. I do want others to notice my progress. Be happy! -
Did anyone develop acid reflux after VSG?
mick replied to Elode's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only way I would know if I had it is from the symptoms and the surgeon explained what causes it and what he did to remedy it. -
I took off work 8 weeks because for the first 6 weeks I did not feel like lifting heavy boxes, loading and unloading trucks. I did not feel like I could keep up with the fast pace. At 8 weeks I felt great and still do 13 weeks out. No problems at work at all.

Did anyone develop acid reflux after VSG?
mick replied to Elode's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I developed it after my heart surgery in '05. Had to do the omeprazole stuff or suffer acid reflux and it would wake me up at night if i forgot to take my pill. When I told my surgeon about it he said he would take care of it when he sleeved me. Done deal. No more acid reflux since my sleeve. -
Sleeved 7/23 and had the same problem for a few weeks. Really bad and painful. Now everything is working fine and i do not have to take any more laxatives. Did not do anything special except started drinking my two cups of coffee in the mornings. Seems to kick everything in gear like it used to pre-op.

Feeling Guilty 4 days out
mick replied to SahndraLynne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was really surprised to see who your surgeon was. We have the same surgeon! I have been noting all the problems others are having that I did not have including not having to sip sip sip my liquids. Dr Naik said I was the exception. The one thing I have noticed is that I can't hardly burp. Most of the time when I feel like burping, my liquids come up instead of the air. This happens rarely though. Last night I drank my Protein shake too fast right behind a few bites of chicken and part of it came back up when I felt like I had to burp. Silly me!
