II FINALLY HIT ONDERLAND!
mick replied to Thinkingthinner1109's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sooo jealous!!! -
I'm a July sleever and I have been stuck between 228 and 226 for a long time. Weeks even. I have been watching the other July sleevers comments and noticing that I have been pretty average as far as stalling but now it seems like I have been stalled too long. Clothes don't fit and my surgeon tells me not to buy any because I am going to lose but I am going to church and other places in some really baggy clothes. Tried to find something to get me by but I am between sizes and need to lose more to get something close to what I can wear. I am halfway to my goal and stuck! Getting really disgusted!!!

I have experienced severe constipation 5-6 weeks post op, several times. Went to Urgent Care over it one time because the pain was unbearable and nothing seemed to work. Constipation is no joke! Check out this thread. There are others if you look around the forum. This seems to be a common problem for a lot of us. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/316990-laxatives/?hl=%20laxatives

Sill having trouble with constipation and I guess I will until i figure out a better diet i can stick with. Milk of Magnesia every two of three days was keeping me from severe constipation. Now i have developed pain in the lower left side of my abdomen. Thats the way it was whn I had to go in and they decided to give me an enema. The laxative has not been working as well as it used to either, or so it seems to me, and now this.. This pain has kept me awake for the past couple of nights. I am to the point of going into Urgent Care and getting it checked out. It feels like severe gas pains.

Sleeved 9/30 swelling gone down?
mick replied to mochax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your storysounds just like mine. I was able to drink instead of sip and I found that out accidentally. Just happened to grab a drink and take two or three big swallows befor I realized I was not supposed to do that. No pain and no discomfort so I forgot about the sipping and just started taking small swallows. My weight loss has been very slow post op. Sometimes up a pound sometimes down one. Just looking at everyone else I figure I am about average on this. It also seems like I am more losing size rather than weight. -
Never did care for Burger King. Now, Carls Junior is more like it. Even Jack in the Box. Either one i can pop into and get a Breakfast sandwhich, throw away the bread and satisfy my hunger and get some of my Protein in. Sorry, just couldn't resist throwing this in.

Just curious to know who is telling you how much you should weigh? How to keep your spirits up? Work on not being over sensitive. I have some friends that look seriously sucked up! I am losing weight but I do not want "that look". You know, like "dead man walking" kind of look. I laugh when I see what some website says I should weigh according to my height. How silly! I have always been large in my chest and shoulders since I was 13 yrs old. Then I started working out with weights. I hate that I have lost a lot of muscle in this journey but on the other hand I don't have all that pride to deal with at my age so... it is what it is, but... I do not want to weigh 135-140 either.

My understanding is that carbonation will stretch your pouch out so never going back to them is my plan. That is a pretty cheap price to pay, in my book, for a better quality of life. The size of my stomach is a great tool when combined with a total, lifetime change in my eating and drinking habits. Not being willing make that lifestyle change will destroy my tool. Your doctor or nutritionist should have already explained this to you. There is a lady I know of that had had weight loss surgery 2 times so far and one of the reasons is because she refused to quit drinking carbonated drinks.

The best advice i can think of is Follow your surgeon's advice religiously and monitor this website.

So, what's the story behind "no sugar"?
mick replied to Andy810's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think that applies to other types of surgery. According to my surgeon a lot of foods that cause problems with bypass surgery do not bother sleevers after their stomach heals. Sugar has not bothered me at all. I just do not want to reestablish a craving for carbs so I avoid sweets, for the most part. -
I would wait until after the craft show simply because you have no idea of how you are going to feel (every one is different) or of any complications that may arise. We were told in our pre op classes that caffene will irritate your stomach where you were cut and stapled and that we shoud wait until we were completely healed. I waited about 8 weeks.

I shopped around on Amazon and finally bought a little digital scale that weighs ounces. The company is EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scales. Small and easy to use.

Tenderness when pressing on tummy
mick replied to auntiemel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not noticed any soreness since my release from the hospital. My wife's dogs jump right in the middle of my stomach every time I lay down. No pain, just uncomfortable when they want lay on me. -
I just saw this after I posted a new topic asking about it. My sign in name is papamick48.

Do we have a group for those of us who use Myfitnesspal? My sign in is papamick48 if you want to check out the website or if you are already on there and want to share your progress. My trouble is that I can't remember to log my daily intake in. Maybe belonging to a group of us would help me to do that. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/

Sucks to be a Newbie and be considered Offensive

Something else you might consider. Things somtimes sound a lot different on a forum than you might mean it to be. -
How do you know or keep track of your protein when you're not even eating half a serving?
mick replied to lose4life2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
MyFitnessPal and CalorieKing.com. The app for CalorieKing is a little easier to do a quick check before you eat something but I like to log on to MFP to log my daily intake. Problem for me is I cannot remember to log it in every day. BTW, my MFP name is papamick48. -
Acid reflux-will it go away?
mick replied to FairySleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had it bad before my surgery. It started after my heary surgey in '05. If I did not take Prilosec every day I would wake up with acid reflux or whatever, in the middle of the night. When I asked my doc about continuing to take Prilosec post op he told me that I may have some kind of hiatal hernia. He said if that was the case he would repair it when he did my sleeve. He later told me that I did have one and that he had repaired it. I have not had acid reflux or heart burn since my surgery. -

How Did You Find and Choose Your Bariatric Surgeon?
mick replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Kaiser referred me to Bakersfield Surgical Associates. http://bakersfieldsurgicalassociates.com/about_hirani.html There are three surgeons. On my first referral I chose Dr.Hormuz Irani based on his experience. Five days before my surgery date Kaiser cancelled our insurance over some silly thing. Got it restored but did not go set up the surgery date again until almost 2 yrs later. This time I just let them assign a surgeon and I got Dr. Nirav Naik. He is great! really instilled confidence in me as far as going through with the surgery and has closely monitored my progress since my surgery July 23rd. Right after my surgery Dr. Naik left Bakersfield Surgical Associates and took his patients with him to Valley Advanced Surgical. I am sure glad Kaiser allowed him to continue with my aftercare. http://www.drnnaik.com/Loss-Surgery-Location-Bakersfield-CA.html -
Start Pre-op diet today and I'm starving!
mick replied to luiggib's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Drinking a lot of Crystal Light kept me full and helped me get started on the pre op liquid diet. chicken broth was good for the same reason. You will be surprised how much this helps with feeling hungry. Also, when you see the weight start coming off you will really be encouraged. I did not notice the weight loss until I started getting on my treadmill every day for 30-45 min along with the liquid diet. -
I used "Grape Mist" and was able to tolerate the taste. A lady in our Kaiser Options classes brought a bottle of it to class so we could taste it and that is why I bought a case of it, I do not remember how much I payed for it but I do remember shopping online for the best price. I have not tried the other flavors but heard you really need to try one before you buy a whole bunch of the same flavor.

Waiting for a burst of energy!
mick replied to ren0318's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Somewhere around week five I started feeling a little energy if I remember right. Now, at about nine weeks I feel great! -
I was on a date last night. She ordered a chicken fried steak, baked potato, steamed broccoli and Texas cheese toast. I ate about one fifth of her chicken fried steak or about two fingers almost and a couple of bites of her baked potato and a few small broccoli tops. Stuffed! Had a good time! My wife is awesome!

How do you know you are full?
mick replied to auntiemel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
9 weeks post op and I can really tell when I am full. A few times I have tried to finish my portion anyway despite the pressure of fullness and that was a big mistake. Not only very uncomfortable but also scared me that i might be stretching my sleeve.. Denser foods like meats, fill me up faster than softer foods do.
