Been a long time since I've posted. Things are great. Reached my goal weight (plus some) about 6 months ago. Total of 85lbs gone!! Couldn't be happier

5lbs WOULD be nice! I hit that dreaded stall on week 2 and it stayed for almost 2 full weeks! Can you believe that? just this week I've noticed the scale move a little. I'm down a total of 29 lbs. Mushy foods were good for me too. I still had that nasty "gas" in my chest, but it's gotten a lot better. I did have dumping syndrome a couple of times, but that's because I tried ground beef...I guess that was a no-no with my sleeve. I'm able to tolerate lots of things but I just have to make sure I chew chew chew. I had a mashed up avocado the other day and I think I ate too fast because it felt like it got stuck in my chest. Needless to say, I have to remember to slow down. The old Nancy pops in from time to time, thinking she can eat and drink fast. Here's to continued success to us all!! 40's have never looked better!!

Supposed To Start Pureed Foods. It Just Sounds Gross! Any Suggestions?
Nance posted a topic in Food and Nutrition
Hi everyone, so my doc says I can start pureed foods today. Where do I start? It all sounds so gross! I can't think of one thing that I would puree and eat, besides a banana. Pureed meat? I'm gagging at just the thought of it! lol Any suggestions for something tasty? -

Are You Telling People That Your Having This Surgery?
Nance replied to kcsmicah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've told all family and friends. I just didn't want to get the infamous "wow, you've lost so much weight...how did you do it?" to come up. Then I'd have to decided to tell them or not. For me it was just easier to tell everyone so they expect to see me slim down and not have to question it. Luckily, no one has given me the stink eye about it. Everyone has been supportive, thank goodness. -
What Are The Signs We May Have A Leak?
Nance replied to TexasTina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm getting scared with the talk of the left shoulder pain. I occasionally get a "gas" pain in my left shoulder. Other than that, I feel fine. Is there another reason I would have pain in my left shoulder? -
2 Weeks Without Any Weight Loss
Nance replied to mariemadeline's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having the same problem. Lost 18 lbs the first week then it stopped. I asked my doc at my follow up appt. and he said that is completely normal. He said now that I'm starting to a little more regularly, the weight will start coming off. I guess he was right because this morning I woke up to a 1 lb loss! Hang in there, hopefully you'll notice it soon. -
Tomorrow Is The Big Day! Having My Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Nance posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone! My name is Nancy. I am 40 years old. BMI is 30. I am 5'6" and weigh 218 (well, before my pre-op diet). Now I am at 213. I thought for sure I'd lose more than that especially since I was totally faithful to the liquid diet. I hope I have better results after the procedure, which is TOMORROW! I am a bit nervous, which is the whole reason I wound up here. I was seeing if anyone had any regrets. I'm having the "what the hell are you doing?" talk with myself right now. I know in the end I will be happier and healthier. It's last minute jitters Surgery is scheduled for 8:00 am. I am 2nd one of the day. I just wanted to drop in and say hello and introduce myself because I know I'll be back in here soon! Nance "What you dwell on is what you become" -

Looking for new stuff to "eat". SO bored with broth and jello. Still difficult to eat though...stupid gas pain.

Hi all! I turned 40 in November and was sleeved on 12/27/11. I'm down 18 lbs since my surgery and a total of 23 lbs since pre-op diet. I know that I made the correct decision and that my 40's are going to be the best time in my life! I'm looking forward to a longer, healthier life.

Popcorn After Gastric Sleeve Surgery....
Nance replied to illgeturhairdid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a popcorn addict! I thought about popcorn when I woke up from surgery. I thought, OMG, what did I just do? I'll never have popcorn again! lol It's the only craving I've had since having the surgery. I'm only 6 days out and counting down the months until I can have it again. -
How Many Incisions Did You Get?
Nance replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 2. 1 through the belly button and 1 for the drain on my left side. The belly button one is still tender (I'm 6 days out) but not unbearable. The other one never hurt at all. My surgeon was so cute and said he did it through my belly button so I could wear my bikini this summer. I just laughed! -
I'm 6 days out and have lost 18 lbs. It's been a pound here, 2 there, but today when I got on, I lost 3. I was shocked because I actually got more "food" in today. Go figure. Goes to show everyone is different. I'm totally guilty of weighing myself everyday too. I think it's natural in the beginning. When I hit a stall, I'll stop doing that so I won't drive myself crazy. Keep up the good work everyone!

4 Days Post Op And How I'm Feeling
Nance replied to Shea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally feel your pain on the gas problem. I'm 5 days out and it will just not go away. I sip and more air gets trapped inside me. Unfortunately, it doesn't come out right away. It lingers for about 30 minutes and it's pretty painful. I've tried Gas-X and it's helped just a bit, but it makes me not want to drink anything, which I know I can't. Glad to hear you're doing better! Sleeved 12/27/2011 by Dr. Sherman Yu. TLC Laparoscopic Consultants -

Tomorrow Is The Big Day! Having My Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Nance replied to Nance's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi all! I'm back at home. Everything went well. I did have some nausea problems but none today, thank God! I'm having trouble drinking all my liquids for the day. I just don't feel like eating or drinking anything. As a matter of fact, the smell of food totally grosses me out. Can you believe it? I have been walking a few laps around the house to keep active. The other thing is I'm super sore. My doc used my belly button as access to my stomach so its uncomfortable getting up and down. I feel like I'm hunched all the time because I can't really stand up straight. On the bright side, I'm down 8 lbs since pre op!! I'll just be glad when I'm feeling like my old self with no more discomfort. How long did y'all take before you felt "normal"? -
I'm glad to hear all your stories. I'm a big social drinker...always on the weekends and I was so scared I was never going to be able to enjoy a drink again with my friends! My surgery is tomorrow so this puts my mind at ease a bit

Tomorrow Is The Big Day! Having My Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Nance replied to Nance's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Awww, I'm sorry to hear you've had such a hard emotional time. I totally agree with having a good support system. I am very lucky in that sense. My husband, immediately family and friends are super supportive. The liquid diet during the holidays has been a HUGE test for me, but I did it! My mom had us over for Christmas dinner and while everyone else had steak, baked potato, and Pasta salad, she made me sugar free Jello and chicken broth along with my shake. My husband is amazing. One day we were at a relatives house and they had all this delicious food that he was eating right next to me. It smelled amazing! He looked at me and the look on my face must have said it all. He asked me if I wanted him to go into the kitchen to eat. I laughed and told him it was ok. I just kept telling myself that food is just fuel for my body, not an event and I would be better off by not eating those foods right now. My friends have already committed to eating healthier and exercising more with me. I hope I can inspire them to keep at it. I hope that your support system gets better and that you're able to get through all of this ok. Thanks for sharing your story too! -

Thanks everyone! I will definitely be back on to let y'all know how it went. I'm amazed at your quick weight loss Lorrie! Congrats! I just hope my goes as smoothly as yours and I shed the pounds as quickly. I have thyroid issues as well (lack of one) and I always fear it's going to have a negative affect on the whole procedure. I am keeping my hopes up and having a positive attitude. I'll make sure to take your advice about eating. Thanks again!
