Hi everyone, I'm Gena and I'm still kinda new to this forum, even though I registered a while ago. I found this forum when I first started to check everything out about being banded about a year ago. But I decided to try 1 more diet before I did anything more. So I went on the Atkins Diet in April of 2007 and stay on it till the end of Feb. of 2008. I lost around 40 to 50 lbs till October, then from November to Feburary I wasn't losing anything. I kept telling myself that I was in a slump and I'll start losing again, but nothing. So on Feb. 23rd I stopped the diet and I have made an appt. with Dr. Clark in Ellis Hospital to go to the orientation for the lapband( before I gain the weight back). I need this, about 14yrs ago I had to have a hip replacement due to a car accident and it was only suppose to last 10 years, then I was to need of a new one. I am overdue and I have gained alot of weight through the years. I can't wait till I go to the appt. April 10th but I'm really nervous that I might not be able to have this surgery, I've been told that the Ins. Co. won't pay for the lapband but they will pay for the bypass and I will not have the bypass. I really can't afford to take a loan for it. I just found out last week that there is a woman from work that is being band on April 7th. She doesn't know if the Ins. will cover it. So I was wondering if I could get any info, if anyone has any? If I get my Hip surgeon involved does anyone think it will help with the Ins.?

Hello everyone. My name is Gena. I'm not banded, but checking it out. found this forum while doing my homework about getting band. So I was hopeing to get some more info before deciding on this. My mother and aunt and couple of my mothers cousins had the gastric bypass before but I feel this one is much safer to have, but still doing my homework. I'm open to any advice anyone would have. I am looking to see if anyone has had this from my area. I live in Queensbury, NY. it's near Lake George area.

Hello again, thanks for the info. I have kinda stopped on the homework for a bit because I am trying the akins diet. I have been doing really good, in a little slump right know but people tell me it will pass. But I have lost 50 lbs. started the diet June 1st of 2007. But thanks, for the advice. Hope that I'm welcome to still post once in a while in here:cool2:

My mom, aunt, & moms cousin all had the GB. I refussed to go through that with 2 young kids, cause I know of 1 person that had the bypass and he died because the staples broke open( which that scared me, for me to do it). So I seen the commericial like other and got online to check it out. Haven't been banded yet, checking it all out still. Any info would be greatful

I'm considering in getting band but need to know if there is a Doctor near where I live. I live kinda upstate N.Y. around Lake George area, Glens Falls area. Anyone that may have any advice I would be greatly appreciated for your help.If I have to I will travel to Albany but perferr closer. :help:

wow Tara, u just described me! lol but my baby is 2 and 1/2 years old and I am 6' and weight over 350lbs and tired of being fat. I checking into this lapband also, but mine is because I've had a hip replacement and I pretty much need it but I don't know if they do it in N.Y. so if u get any info could u please share I would greatly appreciate. I wish you luck with your goals in life.

Ok, I think I'm fat for many reasons also. I have a skinny father that verbally is abusive about eating ( but he doesn't even no he does it). I have a heavy mother that I guess I took after. I really gained the weight when I lost my first baby when I was eight months pregnant, then went into a bad depression ( so I liked food). then almost lost my son during my pregnancy for him, was on bed rest from 7 months on. and only wanted pasta foods( spegetti, goulash, mac & cheese). so gained alot of wait there. Then the father of my son left me and I went into a depression, ate and closed myself off to the world. with family's help, got back on my feet but then quite smoking and gained. Then found a loving guy that I'm happy with now and got pregnant again, yep gained more weight. Then after a year I went into a depression not sure what put me there that time but I think the weight helped. I also have 4 family members on my mothers side that has had the gastric bypass, which includes my mother. so the odds where that I was going to be fat. so thats why I'm FAT.
