  1. I have used those before. When I had gotten to my goal weight with the band (later gained it back), the excuse that I'm on a diet, people looked at me like I was crazy. I have used the following excuses. I would like to try to get a complete list of excuses. I've already eaten. I had a big Breakfast. I'm trying to lose weight. I don't feel good/ stomach ache/ sick. I have a tooth ache. (a couple of times, I really did have a tooth ache) I've even said, I didn't care for the meal very much. I'm not hungry. Any more good excuses?
  2. Yes, I have mastered the art of ordering water and not drinking it during meals. I really don't like the taste of plain water so, it wasn't difficult. Before the band I used to drink iced tea but, at $2-$3 a pop, it wasn't difficult to give it up either. My weekly lunch costs went down over $10 a week.
  3. Does the sleeve REALLY help with hunger because of the hormone thing?
  4. I don't know how anyone could call having the majority of your stomach cut out as easy. No, way! I haven't had the sleeve (yet) but am seriously considering it.
  5. I'm really freaking out about leaks & complications. I've read a couple of stories about a few ppl who have had complications that have lasted months with multiple surgeries.
  6. Thanks for the responses. The support on here is awesome. I wish there was a pill I could take to make my fears disolve.
  7. Any self pay revisions out there? How much did you pay? Boy I"m just full of questions. I'm seriously considering this.
  8. Thanks. With the band even though I couldn't physically eat I still felt hungry all the time. Everything (chicken, veggies, salad, most meat ) made me sick so, I guess I started gravitating toward slider food because that's about all I could eat.
  9. WoW! I guess that sounds about right. I've websites with the cost of the sleeve about $12K and if you figure about $5K to take out the band.
  10. I'm scared to death of any surgery. I have a severe fear of dying in surgery much more than the normal nervousness and anxiety. I still can't believe I had the lapband put in. I'm terrified about having an organ cut away but, I'm fed up (ha, ha) with the band. Not only because I've gained almost all of the weight back but, also because I don't want to spend the rest of my life throwing up on a daily basis and there are so many foods I can't eat. I'd like to hear some of the worse case scenerios and hopefully, how people have recovered.
  11. I realize everyone is diffierent but, generally speaking is the weightloss rate the same for someone going from band to sleeve than someone who's only had a sleeve?
  12. He is at a center of excellence. I do think he's a good surgeon but, not the best bedside manner. Good point about possibility of not getting the full story re: any slippage or erosion. I'm going to check out some other doctors in the area.
  13. Thanks for all the responses. I'm pretty convinced I don't have much of a choice. I have sleep apnea. I also have insomnia so, I"m afraid that one day I won't wake up because I've taken something for the insomnia. I got put on bp meds for the first time in my life last week and I don't like the way they make me feel. All that on top of all the band problems of puking, slimming and extreme food limitations and STILL gaining weight. I just can't live like this (fat and miserable) anymore.
  14. Anyone pay out-of-pocket for the lapband and later get insurance to pay for revision? I paid for lapband out of pocket now, gained weight back. I'm considering sleeve but can't afford to pay out of pocket again. I paid out of pocket for the lap band because I didn't want to jump through all the hoops for insurance. Anyone else with a similar situation? ( I posted this under insurance too)
