    Beer - Ouch

I was drinking soda and beer 3mo out. I have no problem at all with carbonation. I'm losing about 10 lbs per month so it hasn't affected my weight loss.

    Nuts!

I don't see what's so bad about nuts. They are healthy. They are a good source of fiber and some are high in protein. They are loaded with good fats. Don't eliminate healthy foods from your diet. There is a place in your diet for nuts. If we eliminated everything someone posted about eliminating we'd only be eating chicken breast and fat free ham. Eat some nuts..... please!

    Milk?

I still love my 1% milk. No lactose intolerance.

    The Runs

Hummus is incredibly high in fat and not a diet food. One cup of hummus is over 400 calories. It's a good source of protein though!
  6. Mine hurt so bad I turned white and almost passed out. By far the worst part of my entire sleeve experience and maybe my entire life.

    I Hate Water!

I like MIO. They have good flavors and they taste great. There is a slight aftertaste. They are easy to carry around and take to restaurants.

    Trouble Sleeping

Stop taking the pain med and substitute Benadryl or Tylenol PM. One of the signs of withdrawal is sleeplessness. Your not addicted to it but if your on it for a little while you may expreince some withdrawal symptoms like sleeplessness. I got the chills for 3 or 4 days.

    Gaining Weight Rapidly!

A gallon of water weighs 8 pounds. If you distribute that water weight around your body the body can easily retain that much. Maybe 15-20% is regained fat, but the rest is likely water if not all of it. Take an over the counter diuretic or wait for the kidneys to get rid of it.
  11. After the surgery will be a different story. Like I said you won't have the lung capacity after surgery. A combination of sedation from the pain killer and the swelling in your abdomen and your sleep apnea will dramatically worsen. I tried to fight getting a CPAP with my doctor and he said he wouldn't perform the surgery without me having a CPAP and I didn't have sleep apnea.

    Low Testosterone?

In overweight individuals testosterone is converted into estrogen. Your testosterone is low because it's being converted to estrogen. You should have had an estrogen test done as well. I inject myself at home with testosterone. A normal testosterone level for someone your age is probably around 800. You should ask the doctor about putting you on Arimidex as well which is used in women to treat breasts cancer. It't an aromotase inhbitor and stops the conversion from testosterone to estrogen. Don't do testosterone therapy without Arimidex. Some doctors don't know. I take that as well. My numbers are now perfect. You should also ask about taking a DHEA supplement if your blood work indicates the need. The injections can be daunting at first but it beats the gel. The needle is 22g thick and 1.5" long. But if you jam it into your thigh really fast it's painless. I inject once a week. The metabolic disorder he was talking about is linked to diabetes.
  13. My doc made me get a CPAP machine before i had surgery. He had seen a patient die a few days after surgery while sleeping from sleep apnea. You will have swelling in your abdomen which will restrict your lung capacity making your sleep apnea worse.

    Feeling Like A Failure

No carbs until 7mo out? That's extreme. I wonder why you are put on such a restrictive diet.
  15. I was hungry for lunch as soon as I recovered from the anesthesia but it's 1/4 of what hunger was like before. i get hungry every 4 hours now. I'm 10 weeks post op.

    Eatting And Drinking

I drink about 4oz of liquid with my meal of iced tea or 1% milk. I have no issues. Milk has protein so it's not likely displacing much protein you would have taken in without drinking.

March Sleevers How Are You Doing?

Sleeved on 5/12 and have lost 51lbs.

    Feeling Like A Failure

5mo out and 55 lbs lost? That's over 10 lbs per month and 2.5lbs per week. That's a lot of weight. Sounds like your doing good to me.
  19. Your answer lies in whatever the scale tells you. Someone who goes to the gym and burns 300-400 calories in a workout and is consuming 1200 calories is really only taking in 800-900 calories per day. A persons activity level is directly related to how many calories you should take in. If your losing weight then your on the right path. If your not then it's time to drop your caloric intake. You have the nutritionist telling you one thing.... the doctor telling you another, and now everyone who answers this post 30 other things. Time to turn the voices off because only you can figure out what works for you.
  20. The only data I will believe on vsg stretching is when a scientific study is released. The current data suggests that the sleeve will dilate naturally during the first year or two but there is no data to suggest it's from overeating and not just a natural process taking place. Other than the natural dilation I don't believe it's possible to stretch your sleeve out. To stretch the stomach there would have to be a source of pressure to expand it. Any sleever knows that if you over eat it just backs up into you esophagus. It does not create pressure in the stomach. If you put liquid in a plastic milk jug when the jug reaches it's capacity does it stretch? No... the water overflows. The majority of the part of our stomach that stretches has been removed. Sleeve dilation is a process of a natural mechanism and will happen no matter how much you stuff in your sleeve.

1 Year Out An Its Not Good.

I have a can of diet soda a day. No issues for me. The stalls are not related to the diet soda. It's the bodies defense mechanism from starvation. Your metabolism slows down. I eat something every 3 hours. Maybe a hand full of almonds or peanuts. Something healthy with protein. It keeps your metabolism moving. Don't let yourself feel hungry. I say have the soda. I have abused my sleeve with diet soda for the sake of science so that others can indulge. I still lose about 2-3 lbs per week.

1 Year Out An Its Not Good.

There is a lot of debate about carbonated beverages and the sleeve. Nothing will cause your sleeve to expand. Not even carbonation. The CO2 comes out of solution in your stomach and you burp and the pressure is relieved. There is no science I could find supporting the elimination of carbonated beverages. I believe it's probably a carry over rule from the bypass and the band procedure where the stomach can still stretch. I don't know if it's any comfort to you but your sleeve won't stretch. Your lack of weight loss is probably due to the sugar in the soda and other things you shouldn't have been eating.
  23. I can eat 80-90% of Big Mac with the middle bread removed and maybe half of the small fry. If I do I'm stuffed. I'm 3mo out and I did it twice. I'm a 41yo active male. My doc says I have a long torso. I found that if I keep my calories too low (800) I don't lose weight. I need about 1200-1400 per day to lose weight. My typical day consists of a grilled chicken breast on 1/2 a bun with a little caesar dressing on top. I'll eat a slice of whole wheat toast with 2 tbsp of Peanut Butter and a cup of skim milk. Later another cup of skim milk, and a piece of whole wheat bread with about 4oz of Boars Head ham. I also eat about 1/2 cup of almonds or peanuts a day. I think once in a while you can eat what you want. I'm not like most people here. I eat whenever I'm hungry. Since my pre-op diet on 03/03 til 05/15 I lost 50lbs. If I'm at a party and someone hands me a piece of cake I eat it until I have had enough which isn't very much. I don't deny myself anything. I'm not a comfort eater and luckily don't crave things often. My wife and I went away on vacation this past weekend. We always stay at the same hotel. I ordered the same food I ordered when I stayed before I had my procedure. But Instead of having a whole burger I shared 1/2 of it with my wife. I had one or two french fries. Before my sleeve I could eat the whole burger and the whole order of fries. I came home after a 4 day vacation of eating 1/2 burgers for lunch and still lost 2 pounds in 4 days. My blood work was excellent and I'm off my cholesterol, triglyceride and bp meds so it's working for me. Everyone should do what works for them. I think people would be surprised if they let themselves indulge once in a while. The sleeve does all the work. But I understand some people can't have just a little and over eating is an issue. BTW we have the same doc!

    Blood Sugar... Help!

If you have fasting blood glucose of 292 your a diabetic. You need meds.... pills if they work or insulin. Your liver produces sugar from stored fat. You body needs sugar to live. Without glucose in your system you will go into a coma as the brain uses only sugar to carry out it's functions. So even if you only take in Protein your liver will produce glucose. In your situation the glucose is not getting into the cells because of insulin resistance. Insulin is the key to the lock that allows sugar to enter your cells and metabolize. The sugar is circulating in the blood where it can cause damage and complications like diabetic ketoacidosis which can be fatal. To prevent DKA you need to lower your blood sugar with insulin or pills. If your diabetic and eat absolutely nothing your blood sugar will rise all by itself just from the release of glucose from your liver.
