Oh No! Mcdonalds For Lunch?
jetpilot replied to vampsy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You made a mistake... I would have gotten a Big Mac,removed the center piece of bread so I could fit the burger in my stomach and ordered a small fries. You're entitled every now and then so when the opportunity presents itself go for it. That's what I do. I've never seen people so afraid to indulge once in a while. It won't hurt you! I lose 15 lbs per month and eat whatever I want. 90% of the time it's a smart meal choice. 10% of the time I eat stuff like a slice of pizza or a 1/2 a burger. My blood work is great and my weight loss is higher than my doc expects me to lose. I'm only 2mo post op. -
Has Anyone Dealt With High Blood Sugar After The Sleeve?
jetpilot replied to AngieG0410's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess you are diabetic? The liver releases sugar into your blood stream when you are not taking in carbs. The brain needs sugar s an energy source. So eating or not eating your blood sugar will rise either from the food your taking in or from the livers release. If your blood sugar is going up when not eating then you will need a basal insulin like Lantus. -
Slow Weight Loss :/
jetpilot replied to mistyf6572's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can't build muscle by walking or any aerobic exercise. You can tone the muscle you have. In addition if your not getting in your dietary protein your body will consume muscle for energy while exercising when the stores of glycogen have been depleted from the liver. Have you ever seen distance runners? They are all skinny with no muscle. That's why we need to consume large amounts of protein to keep the body from using muscle for energy. Most weight stalls occur from the body holding on to water. You still losing the fat but your retaining water. Water weighs 8 pounds per gallon a 1/2 gallon of water could easilly be retained in a person who is overweight without them noticing. -
Eating Too Much At 5 Weeks Out?
jetpilot replied to Minnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein is protein... no matter what the source. The egg is in it's natural form if that's what you meant. -
Drain Removal- How Painful Really?
jetpilot replied to CHELL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My experience was quite different. I had two drains in me for a week. I'm a tough guy and not squeemish. But I almost passed out cold as he was pulling them out. I was on the verge of fainting. It's good I was sitting down or I would have been on the floor. It was like someone had their hand inside of me. Strange feeling. I was actually on pain killer for a week after the drains were pulled I was so sore. The drains were the worst part of the whole procedure for me. They were uncomfortable while they were in also. -
Chest Pain! Food Stuck?
jetpilot replied to BeautiifulEvolution's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They are esophageal spasm. They hurt like a b***h. Think of it like a leg cramp in your esophageal muscles that move food to the stomach. Food backs up in your esophagus because it can't move through the stomach as quickly with it's reduced capacity. They suck! Eat slower. They usually diminish as time goes on. -

Thinking My Surgeon Has Lost His Mind!
jetpilot replied to jiggyjen1982@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Listen to what your body tells you first and foremost. I was eating solid foods 3 weeks out against my doctors initial advice but's that's the way I am. I had a can of diet soda last week and one the week before. It will NOT expand your stomach. I drink small amounts with my meal. I can't get used to not having some liquid with my food. I dropped 41 lbs in 5 weeks. I have a fishing boat and was out fishing in the ocean after 3 weeks reeling in 50lb fish. If it hurts don't do it. My 4 week appointment I told my doctor everything I was doing and he said if it works for you then continue it. He said I was doing as good as he had ever seen a patient. I'm losing weight and not really following any of the advice the nutritionist gave me other than focusing on protein rich foods and keeping carbs complex and a small part of my diet. This may not work for you but it works for me. 5 weeks out and I'm eating everything I want but in very small portions. That is the point of the surgery. The sleeve does all the work for you. Experiment and go slow. I have never thrown up or had any complications other than spasms if I eat too fast. -
Not Losing Weight
jetpilot replied to ashleystanley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stalled at 3 weeks as well. Even gained back 5 pounds. I was probably not hydrated enough and when I finally got the liquid in I gained the 5 lbs. 5 lbs is a little over 1/2 a gallon of water. Not a lot considering the total volume of someone who weighs 347lbs. There is no way you lost 30lbs of fat since March 22nd. Much of that is water. Now that you lost the water the fat is a lot harder to come off. -
Horrible Thing Happened Last Night
jetpilot replied to italianlady13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hypoglycemia just doesn't happen to people who are not diabetic and on meds. The liver stores glycogen which is released into the blood when there is insufficient amount of sugars taken in through diet. It's the bodies way of supplying the brain with glucose. Without glucose the brain cannot function. Healthy people with normal metabolism should not be having hypoglycemic episodes. Diabetics have hypoglycemic episodes when they overuse insulin or don't eat enough to cover the effects of the pills. -
1 Week Post Op... My Experience So Far
jetpilot posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Tuesday March 13. After the 2 hour surgery in recovery I was in a lot of discomfort on my left side. I was taking 2MG of IV dilaudid every 4 hours. I felt good enough with the pain killers that about 5 hours after surgery I did 5 laps walking around the floor of the ICU. I had no problem doing that except that it hurt to breathe deeply on my left side. I stayed in bed and rested the remainder of the first day. I ate a cup of broth and a spoonful of Jello for both lunch and dinner. I felt no nausea and was actually hungry and it felt good to get something in my stomach. I drank about 16 ounces of Water that day in addition to the Soup. I rested comfortably that night but did not get much sleep. The next day the pain actually felt a little worse. I was taken off the dilaudid IV and given liquid Loratab to prepare to be discharged that day. I did 10 laps around the nurses station after Breakfast. I again had the cup of broth and the spoonful of Jell-O. No issues with the walk either but still the discomfort with the deep breaths. I was discharged Wednesday after lunch to go home. My surgical drains were starting to get lighter in color. I still had experienced no nausea or discomfort of my stomach. But the drains are really uncomfortable. Today, 8days later, I had my drains removed. I swallowed some methyl blue before drain removal which would have showed up in my drains if I had a leak. Removing the drains hurt like hell! By far the worst part of the whole experience. It's the most pain I have ever been in. I almost passed out while he was pulling them out. I am now eating mush 7 days out and taking it well. I buy Campbell's Chunky soup and puree it in the blender. It's tastes really good. I am drinking skim milk and taking my Isopure drink. Apple Melon is pretty good. I also ate some canned tuna, I pureed some chili with Beans and I had a fried egg on top of my chili for breakfast. I am keeping fat low and carbs very low. It seems to be working as the weight is dropping off quickly. I am having bad stomach spasms any time anything pureed hits my stomach. I hope these spasms stop soon. It's uncomfortable but not painful. Anything but liquid that goes in my stomach I get bad spasms. I am down to 358lbs from a pre pre-op diet weight of 378. I am back to my old daily routine and feeling 98%. My insulin use had dropped in 1/2 since surgery. I am off all BP meds. -
"Light" mayo has 35 calories per serving of which 32 of those calories comes from fat. Like I said mayo is all fat. "Light is a marketing gimmick.
-
The protein shakes are to be included in your daily 64oz intake. So you're getting more than the 32oz of water you took in. Your protein shake contains water. The fact you add protein to it doesn't change the fact it started out as water.

Type One Insulin Depend Wanting The Sleeve
jetpilot replied to spainter2009's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This surgery does nothing to improve type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetics don't produce insulin. You can have sugar after the surgery. If you go low drink a few ounces of apple juice. -
If he surgeon did his job then the answer is no.... it's not possible. You can have a leak without eating anything.
-
I'd say mayo is a not an option. It's pure fat! Keep away til you reach your goal.

1 Week Post Op... My Experience So Far
jetpilot replied to jetpilot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes... it is actually your esophagus going through spasms. It's a tightening feeling in the lower part of your esophagus. It lasts about 3 seconds each and comes after swallowing. -
8 Day Problem, Need Help Please!
jetpilot replied to criney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This surgery, even though done laparoscopically, is still surgery. Muscles are torn, organs are bruised and swollen. It feels like you went a few rounds in the boxing ring. The soreness is likely from the muscles being bruised during surgery. It may be gas that is making you feel bloated or swollen. I wouldn't be very worried about if your eating and keeping things down. Your abdomen has been through trauma. It takes time to heal. The things you should worry about are fevers and regurgitating your food. Laying in bed makes the pain worse because your abdominal fat is pushing up on your diaphragm and organs. Try keeping your upper torso inclined. -

So you had spasms as well if you're food was too heavy? What did you eat that was pureed to prevent spasms?
