Need Some Help. What Did You Do With Very Slow Losses?
blackanese25 replied to Veda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i haven't been sleeved long but i am a natural athlete so i can help you see more of a difference.. to start with you can get more Protein in your diet than just eatting meat/ fish, their are a lot of protein in eggs, Beans, tofu, nuts, as well as just getting in a Protein shake for the extra. Also, if you have been exercising lot, doing free weights or even just cardio you will be building lean muscle and as you do that and you lose fat, you have to understand that you might even gain weight.. muscle is much more dense than fat, which in return means it weighs more. So that might be why you havent seen a drastic reduction in weight. I normally say pay attention to how your close fit, even if you don't see a drop on the scale notice if things are tighter or looser. i hope that helps a little. good luck and don't get discourged this early in the game. you will continue to lose. and just like daisy said if you started with a lower bmi, then you will lose at a slower rate than someone with a higher one, since they have more fat to lose. -
ok so i am 8 days p.o and i can't stand this liquid thing anymore.. for what ever reason everytime i drink Fluid i get a huge gas bubble in my stomach and i can't burp so there is no way for me to relieve the pressure right away. i have been experimenting with semi solids.. bread and very very well cooked veggies.. i know im not supposed to but i needed to see if anything else would work.. and as it stands i can tolerate it. i don't get that huge gas bulge everytime i eat. and i found that actual food makes it easier for me. what should i do? also i just can't seem to not be hungry right after i eat.. I feel like im losing it and im only 8 days into it.. someone please help me.

so when i woke up this morn and decided to get dressed i put my usual pants on only for the past few days they just don't fit right .. too loose.. he he he.. so i went into my room to see if i had anything smaller and i pulled out a pair of pants i bought about 3 years ago i wore these pants a total of about 5 times. .i always said one of these days ill fit in these again.. And for shits and giggles, honestly not thinking they would fit, tried them on anyways.... i had lost enough weight so far to wear them... and not just wear them, but wear them comfortably... funny part is.. half way thru the day i realized something.. they were starting to get a little loose which mean i still wont be able to wear these things for long cuz im just gonna keep losing weight... so i called up a friend and asked her if she would like if i set my pants aside for her... lol i think this would be an nsv? right?

Stats Age 28 Highest weight 270 Vsg goal 250 Lbs day of surgery 238.1 Current weight 234.6 Height 5’7” Total goal 145 A little about myself.. I am 4 days post op and so far the only issue really that I am having is the gas. Lol. But I am hoping that in the next few days that will subside. Now I have never been a big girl in fact all my life I was an athlete. I was a gymnast for years and I played volleyball, basketball, softball, and I did martial arts in high school. When I went to college I was on the crew team. So you can see I have always been active. Well unfortunately since 2001 I have also had 4 knee surgeries making it very difficult to do any exercise and my last two surgeries were 2009-2010. Even now most people didn’t believe me when I told them I was 270 because I have a lot of muscle and I’m very proportionate. However, I could tell. And to make matters worse I also have a herniated disc and 2 bulging discs in my low back. (I’m kind of a walking medical case) lol. Anyways. So I decided to get the surgery done. So far I am able to get most of my fluids in but in the morning I am still nauseous and normally my gas levels go up after I eat which causes a little more discomfort than I would like. I am hoping now that I am on to full liquids that some of that discomfort will subside. I am trying to walk every few hours for at least 10-15 min, but it still really hurts to move too much. I have already noticed that since I am not moving I have lost a little muscle mass. And the one thing I was really worried about was having the saggy skin issue. I’m not trying to be vain but I really don’t want the loose skin. So I’m trying to figure out when is the earliest that I can start working out. I want to give my body ample time to heal before I really start pushing myself, but I know that it’s the first month when you really lose a lot of weight. I will keep you posted on my journey and keep updating my stats as I go by.. I will try and keep them about a month apart so I give myself time to really see a difference.

thats what i need to work on gettin more fluids.. but each day it get easier which is nice.. i am starting to exercise more and i actually am gonna start working again with my personal trainer.. i really don't wanna have that saggy skin thing so i am gonna be kicking my own butt once i can really get started on the work outs.

Finally Feeling Better... Today Was A Good Day
blackanese25 posted a blog entry in blackanese25's Blog
So here I am 6 days out of surgery.. it has been one hell of a journey already. Up until today I was getting dangerously close to being hospitalized for dehydration. And to make matters worse the gas pains were unbearable. And the icing on the cake.. aunt flow decided to start two days after surgery.. lol.. lucky me. So night before last I had asked my mom to get me some gas x, which really really really helped. And thankfully my periods only last about 3 days and are very light, so today it ended.. whew! When I woke up this morning I felt like a new person.. no gas pain, no cramps, just a little tenderness near my incisions was all the discomfort I felt. I was so excited that I decided to go for a walk outside.. which is nice because I literally hadn’t been outside since I had the surgery. I barely got out of bed for most of the 6 days. But, today I went for a walk around the block which was about a mile and a half and it felt GOOD!!!!!! Furthermore, I decided to weigh myself…. He he he.. this is where I just got a huge grin… on the day of surgery 12-12-11 I weighed in 238.1….. as of today 12-18-11 I weigh 230! I haven’t seen that number in over a year! And what really made me laugh is I have an appetite, so I go eat my jello or my cream of wheat and take a few bites and im stuffed! The only thing that goes thru my head is… HELL YEAH BABY!!!! I LOVE MY NEW TUMMY.. I AM GONNA LOVE TO EAT AND FEEL FULL EARLY IN THE MEAL AND NOT FEEL LIKE I HAVE TO DEVOUR MY ENTIRE LASAGNA THAT I COULD HAVE GOTTEN FROM BUCA DI BEPPO (FAMILY STYLE RESTAURANT) BASICALLY YOU ARE REALLY NOT SUPPOSED TO EAT AND ENTIRE PLATE TO YOUR SELF!. In fact I wake up and I WANT let me repeat that I WANT TO START EXERCISING…. I almost can’t wait. In 6 days I dropped 8 lbs, my face I already thinner, I am freakin happy, and I have energy. VSG---- I LOVE YOU! -

Ok, This Probably Sounds Weird
blackanese25 replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
you and i had surgery the same day... its nice to know where someone stands.. if that makes sense because i can relate to you.. I am the same way.. i have no problems just taking a gulp.. it doesn't really hurt ... now if its Water for whatever reason that seems to hurt.. but i can drink Soup or Protein shake and be fine.. in fact i just ate a thing of Jello and i think i did it in 10 min. I don't actually think that im gonna mess with my staple line, i think what another person told me might be true.. we might heal faster than most people so our bodies can just handle it. because your body has a natural way of telling you that something isn't right.. either pain, nausea, vomitting, etc. and none of the above is happening so i think your body can handle it.. im not saying go crazy and just pound it but i think a few gulps isn't gonna kill you. just try and be mindful of how much and how quickly, cuz from what i gather from other people is if your body really doesn't like it.. if you put to much in your pouch to quickly ... you will puke it back up.. is what seems to be the concensus. -
Hey, All You December Sleevers...
blackanese25 replied to lisahg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats lisa, Your gonna be fine.. i just got my sleeve 12-12-11 so im pretty new to this loser game too.. lol.. but i find that having a community of people that know exactly what you are going thru is the best help anyone could get. My experience i live in sac and my surgery was in richmond its about 1hr 45min drive.. that was the hardest part about leaving the hospital.. your in pain and driving that long really really sucks.. lol.. In the hospital wasn't too bad i think everyone has there moments but for the most part the only thing that really bothered me was the gas. It was terrible cause i couldn't burp but as long as you make sure to get up and walk every few hrs you will be ok. i couldn't take any pain meds while i was there because they just made me nauseous, but to be honest i wasn't in that much pain, it could be because im just used to having surgeries, but it really wasn't that bad. I was able to leave the next day as planned but be careful cuz if you can't pee on your own or handle drinking fluids they wont let you go home. I couldn't pee on my own at first, but that was because they pumped me full of pain meds.. lol. kinda a catch 22 but whatever. the first couple of days back the gas was really the only thing that i have to complain about no pain other than that. I tried the gas x which kinda helped but not really i just had to keep moving and try to disperse the gas that way.. now i can have it come out the other end.. lol i know kinda grosse but you do what you gotta do. and now 8 days in the pain is gone most of the gas is gone and the only real problem i have now is drinking the required liquids that i need to. and because i heal a lot faster than most my body already wants to move to the puree phase. Anyways sorry that was so long.. but really good luck to you im sure you will do fine and if you have any questions there will always be some one here that wont mind answering. -

congrats on taking the first step.. i did a lot of research before i decided to get the surgery and what i found was amazing. I would definitely recommend you read up on all your options before you make a decision, but im sure you will realize that the sleeve is well worth it. I was sleeved 8 days ago and even tho i have my ups and downs, i still think its the greatest decision i have made for myself. and the support on this site is amazing. everyone is very welcoming and willing to help you out and give support and advice when needed. Its like were all a family here too. So if you do decide to go thru it.. you can rest easy to know that you will make friends here that will probably become life long. Good luck to you on your journey. and keep us updated with your progess. -
oh i had another question... before i used to always run pretty hot.. infact i would just sweat sometimes because i would be so warm.. and now im freezing and i know a little about the bodys physics but even tho i am taking the iron supplement it doesn't seem to be helping.. what can i do?
-
yea its definitely weird that just plain old water is what causes the most discomfort... and since i guess what i had was a hiatal hernia of my esophogus i can't burp to help with the discomfort of the gas bubble.. i have found that i can eat the popsicles, but i also seem to handle water better if i use crystal light with it. and i can drink protein shakes.. i normally get this one called muscle milk its actually really delicious and it has no dairy. and lots of vitamins and about 25mg of protein per shake.

thank you guys i will be more mindful of my tummy.. and honestly i think your a right on the healing thing diva.. My body is very used to having surgeries.. ive had 4 knee surgeries so i think in general i just heal a lot faster than most which is probably why i intuitvely want to press forward, but i know i shouldn't and i wont till i talk to my nut. I guess this is where i really need to have some will power because i do not want an infection or any complications just because i was being stupid. .... moment of weakness, lapse in judgement what ever you wanna call it.. i just need to stop. And jane i will try the temp stuff.. cuz i have found that the warmer the liquid the easier it is.. but just plain Water messes with me bad.. i hear a lot of people say its because of the pH something like that. but lately it is getting harder for me to get in my Fluid .. i think im at about 25oz right now which i know is not good since we are supposed to be on 64 oz... i heard that we can eat sugar free popsicles? does that count as liquid?

I Would Really Like To Burp...
blackanese25 replied to blackanese25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
cajun that might be what she said i can't really remember i thought she said herniation, but i could be wrong but hiatal hernia or something she wrapped some kind of tie around my esophagus, so im assuming what you are saying is right. But its insane going on 7 days now and i still haven't burped once.. and i really really really wanna burp.. lol. I think just that small action would help me immensely because other than the gas i have no real pain. And i will definitely look into that rx. hopefully it helps because the gas x really isnt doing to much for me. -

blackanese25 replied to Weigh2Go's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
im one week out of surgery today and i completely understand as it is right now im still not able to get in more than 20 oz ... every time i swallow anything whether it be food or drink it hurts.. i can swallow but within a sec i get the sensation of a really big air bubble that hurts.. and i can't burp which makes it that much worse. hopefully it gets better for you .. and for me.. cuz its no bueno right now. lemme know if you find anything that helps.
