    May 2007 Banders

I just wanted to give everyone an update. I was banded yesterday and everything is going well. I was in the hospital overnight because there was some swelling around the band and the doc wanted to keep me on iv fluids until he was sure I'd be able to keep water down. No vomiting and just a little nausea. Thank god for pain meds. I was in a lot of pain when I first woke but it's managable now. Been pretty sleepy though and plan to go back to bed soon. I'm not really hungry and just had a 1/2 cup broth and feel full off of that. Otherwise the doc said that I was really easy to band and pretty routine on all fronts. Hope everyone is doing well and I will give more updates later.

    May 2007 Banders

Hey everyone! Well only 8 more days to go. I've been doing the liquid diet since April 27th and have lost 9 lbs so far. Boy is it tough. My husband is still being a trooper and doing the liquids with me for support. :fish: I've had to battle some cravings, especially while cooking for my kids (Natalie is 4yrs and Zach is 3yrs) but overall it's ok. I'm glad to hear everyone is doing well after surgery, it gives me confidence in what I'm doing. Take care all!

    May 2007 Banders

Hi all! I'm on day 3 of my pre-op diet and must admit it's been hard. I'm allowed 5 carnation instant breakfast packets with milk and protein powder a day, along with sugar free popsicles, jello and crystal light. I'm on this until my surgery on May 11th. Of course I still have to cook dinner for my kids and it's torture. lol My husband decided that if I couldn't eat real food for 2 wks that he wouldn't either and has been doing the liquid diet with me. That's helped. It's always fun to have someone help me curse at the fridge. :speechles Good luck to everyone and hang in there!
  6. I'm on day 2 of my two week liquid diet before my surgery and having a really hard time. My doc is very strict about this. I'm allowed 5 packets of carnation instant breakfast w/ protein powder a day. I can also have surger free popsicles, jello, crystal light and broth. :faint: I'm not crazy about the instant breakfast but hope I'll be able to do it. The big thing that's helping me right now is that my husband is doing the preop diet with me just for support. He's a real trooper. I hope everything goes well for you all!
  7. It took about 2 weeks to get the approval from Medica. I got a call from the surgery scheduler the day after my approval came back. I hope you get your surgery date soon!
  8. It's great to hear from someone else from Duluth. I also work at SMDC, in registration. lol I began the process with the info session in November of last year. Dr. Medlin is doing my surgery. I've seen Danita Saunders for my dietician visits, but am scheduled to see Todra for my post op at the end of May. I agree that SMDC's bariatric program is great. I think this is going to be a great start to the rest of my life. Keep me posted on your progress, I hope you get your surgery date soon. Take care!

I'm getting banded on May 11th and am so excited. I start my pre-op liquid in 3 days and actually can't wait. :clap2: I hope all goes well for everyone!
  11. I'm so excited that I found this site! I'm from Minnesota and will have my lap band surgery on 5/11/07. I'm using Dr. Medlin from St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. I've been overweight most of my life but really packed on the pounds when my husband was deployed over seas. I have a 4-yr-old daughter and a 3-yr-old son. I can't wait to be able to keep up with them and not have to say "mommy needs to sit down a sec". I'm looking forward to getting to know people from this site and reading all the valuable info. Take care all!
