For Those Who Are Blessed With No Hunger
thebionicbroad replied to carbgrl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 9 1/2 weeks out, and I get hungry. It's not the ravening monster that it used to be, and my stomach doesn't growl, but I do get a gnawing sensation. Keeping my protein high really helps. At this stage, if I feel hunger, I eat. I'm still only taking in about 500 - 700 calories a day, and losing slowly, but steadily. Thanks to the sleeve, hunger doesn't scare me anymore. I know it for what it is: My body needs fuel. And that's what I give it...protein, not carb. Carb just creates a vicious cycle of low-blood sugar, which, in turn, drives the hunger. -
Sleeve Size After Surgery And 4 Years Later
thebionicbroad replied to JackieOMonroe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very heartening, considering that the original stomach could hold up to 5 quarts. Thank you for the info. -

Conversion After Stretched Lapband Pouch And Esophagus
thebionicbroad replied to trishah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had reflux because of the massive back-pressure from the band, bur no acid. I haven't had any with the sleeve. Kindred spirits, indeed. Yum! -
Conversion After Stretched Lapband Pouch And Esophagus
thebionicbroad replied to trishah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Trishah, I say, "Oh, pooh," to your doctor. I had a slight slip, pouch and esophageal dilation, with a BMI of 36, and I'm doing great. I can finally eat cooked egg, tuna, etc., without PBing. I love my sleeve. -
Help Desired, Please
thebionicbroad replied to Helen the Cat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Kathy, IMHO, it sounds like depression. Would it be possible to get a complete physical, and go from there? Everyone in my family, and I mean everyone, is plagued by depression, and handles it in different ways. I'd start with a physical, and talk privately with the doc about your concerns. God bless. -
I Wish Someone Had Told Me....
thebionicbroad replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people maintain their weight to psychologically "hide" from something. Weight loss means having to face what we were originally trying to flee. Once we face our demons, we can adjust to the rapid weight loss. But people who love themselves and have no demons don't usually become morbidly obese. Whatever is said, it's still quite a mental adjustment to make. -

What Do You Do For Energy?
thebionicbroad replied to illgeturhairdid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the same boat that you are, so I'm replying to this to subscribe to the thread. I am 8 weeks out and so tired all the time... -
I Wish Someone Had Told Me....
thebionicbroad replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish that someone would have let me know just how emotionally challenging rapid weight loss can be. I've been fat for 32 years, and these quick changes are wonderful, but a bit unnerving. Maybe for many of you, this isn't your reality. For me, it has felt a bit like "disappearing." -
Hey, everyone. I'm having a bit of trouble trying to get more Protein from solid food. How long did it take you to not have to depend on Protein drinks for your 70 gms. of protein? Thanks.

Transition Trouble
thebionicbroad replied to thebionicbroad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you, all. I was so looking forward to eating solid food, and I'm still eating some soft foods to get in the required protein. *sigh* -
Yesterday was my first day of "real" food, and I was craving CRUNCH! Pre-sleeve, it would have been chips, chips, and Cheez-its. I did not want to go that route. I went to my local GNC and bought crunchy protein bars (Atkins and Myoplex Lite). Up .7 of a pound this morning, but it was all worth it. I tamed the Crunch Monster yesterday, and count it as a victory. :Banane55:

Nice to see others of that, as the French say it, "certain age," on the forum. My surgery date was moved up a day to the 13th, because of a cancellation. I figured that I'm going to lose weight, lose hair, and gain wrinkles, but I think that the first one outweighs (if you'll excuse the pun) the other two. I'm a Lap-band revision, because of many complications. Pat

Swallowing Pills Whole
thebionicbroad replied to SecretStarr82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 7 weeks out, and the surgeon cleared me to take small pills whole, instead of cutting them into fourths like I've been doing. My pill-splitter has been one of my best friends. I started splitting the pills at about 3 weeks, because I swore that if I had to swallow that vile, bitter powdered pile of pills again, I was going to hurl. I just experimented with a larger Biotin capsule, and even though my stomach is producing some inquisitive gurgles, so far, so good. -
Are You Feeling Deprived?
thebionicbroad replied to Suzannesh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought that I would feel terribly deprived, but I haven't. What I have experienced is almost shock at how quickly I'm losing inches and pounds. At this point, I'm running out of clothes, and am having to replace them. I can't believe how well the sleeve is working. Besides, my main trigger was always full-fat cheeses, and with Laughing Cow Light and Babybell Light, I can indulge without screwing myself up. -
When did you add COFFEE back to your diet?
thebionicbroad replied to SinDLou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sandy, does the soy milk have sugar in it? If it does, maybe switching to unsweetened almond milk would help. Something else to think about: Caffeine triggers insulin release, and insulin makes us store fat. But, sometimes a stall is just a stall, and not related to anything that we're doing "wrong." :smile1: -
Well, My Dad's Not Very Happy.
thebionicbroad replied to justkeepsmiling's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Smiling, I'd be there for you, too, if I lived in your area. Your dad is acting more like a husband than a father. Lissa is right. Call another surgeon. I wouldn't want that twit operating on me, anyway. Be strong, and keep going. It's worth it. -
Revision Surgery Weight Loss...
thebionicbroad replied to PEvette's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my 7-week check-up with the surgeon yesterday. He told me that 3% of bariatric surgery patients get to a BMI below 25. 97% get to 26 - 30. My goal is 23, so it's going to be interesting to see how close I can get. -
Elevated Alkaline Phosphatase, Ast & Alt Levels
thebionicbroad replied to Ms. VSG4health's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tylenol DOES "piss off your liver," per my PCP, for some people. I happen to be one of them. -
When did you add COFFEE back to your diet?
thebionicbroad replied to SinDLou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not going to add it back. I found out that I can't drink it without the cream and Splenda. It wasn't the coffee I craved, it was the fat and sweet. Don't want it anymore. -

Elevated Alkaline Phosphatase, Ast & Alt Levels
thebionicbroad replied to Ms. VSG4health's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've had elevated ALT levels, usually from taking too much Tylenol, which bothers the liver.
