Easy Way To Increase Veggie/fruit Intake
thebionicbroad replied to sychadelic's topic in Food and Nutrition
Thank you for posting this. Most juicers leave out the fiber, which is a problem for blood sugar. I'm going to give this a try. -

3 Weeks In Surgery - Weight Is Stalled
thebionicbroad replied to hgor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hgor, I haven't hit a stall, but I bounce like Tigger. Every time I lose, I bounce up a pound, stay there for a day or three, then drop. Then bounce. Then fall. It's been like that for the last 2 months. Zeus and Cathy are right. In the past, weight gain was usually our fault. With the sleeve, the body is trying to "balance" itself. Just keep doing what your doc tells you, and all will be well. Sounds to me like you are doing great. (I don't ever get enough water ) -
Mila, are you trying to lose weight regained with the Band, or did you keep your weight loss pretty stable? If you lost a lot of your excess weight with the Band, and have a smaller amount of weight to lose after being sleeved, it's going to go slower as you get closer to goal.

Why Do I Still See The Old Me.,when I Look In The Mirror?
thebionicbroad replied to wickedmijagabby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read a study that found that women see themselves as bigger than they are, and men see themselves smaller. For me, it was part of the ritual of self-hatred, starting every day with, "Good morning, you effin fat pig." Pretty brutal. So now I owe Lissa an apology. When I once described losing weight as losing myself, she said that it was finding herself, and she was right. What made it click for me was the airplane trip to see family. One of my seatmates said that he wasn't used to being in the middle, but was thankful that I wasn't a big person. I almost cried. -

Pre Surgical Class Today..
thebionicbroad replied to jaymzee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd be there with pom-poms if I could, to cheer you on to a new beginning. How about being shocked every time you looked in a mirror, because you like what you see? How about buying regular-sized clothes off the rack? How about fitting into airplane seats, and stadium seating, and folding chairs? Keep your eyes on those things, and find someone supportive to help you through the nerves. Surgery is scary if it's your first. Take a deep breath, and buy a piece of clothing two sizes smaller. You'll be wearing it soon. Prayed for you. -
Psychological Exam
thebionicbroad replied to viana1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They want to make sure that you don't think that every one of your problems is going to magically vanish with weight loss. Weight loss brings on a new set of challenges. They want to know that you're doing this for yourself, and not to please someone else. Relax and be yourself. They are very good at sensing phoniness. Just be who you are. -
Missing your protein goal a few times isn't going to mess you up, but if you don't take good care of yourself, you can't take good care of others. Since this surgery has some nutritional parameters, you have to put yourself first, meet your needs, then minister to others. It doesn't mean that we are selfish, or need to feel guilty, but we have to stay strong to be strong for others. Prayed for you.

As long as you are doing what your doctor says to do, you're spot on. If you're concerned, log your calories into a program like Fitday.com. Just follow your doc's orders to the letter. Congratulations on being sleeved!

I'm proud of you, Carly, but why is that carbage in the house, much less being fed to your kids?! Do you really want to feed them the same crap that made us all fat?

Itching All Over
thebionicbroad replied to CathyT59's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found out that I am allergic to opiates, and that caused itching. If the doc checks you out and no other answer is found, it could be because of our diet. I had terribly itchy skin. I used Lubriderm's Calming Creme to help, and I got over it pretty quickly. -
I'm losing hair, too, but not by the handfuls. I know that it will stop eventually, so I'm not freaking out about it. I did it with both my boys, and every abdominal surgery I've had. Nothing can shake the joy of being the lowest size I've been since I was 18, and I'm old.

Soooo Scared
thebionicbroad replied to scared2deathforreal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Your doctor should have his license yanked. I deeply regret his scaring you with exaggerated falsehoods. I'm praying that someone tells you the truth before you develop the health problems that you will develop at your weight. God bless you. -
Confused Over Weight Loss
thebionicbroad replied to time4menow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's a survival mechanism for the body called homeostasis. During times of famine, the body would hold water and do whatever else it had to do to keep the body weight stable. Eventually, the water has to go, hence the drop. That's what "bounces" are, too. I will do everything right, and gain a pound overnight. Within a day or two, I'm down that pound and more. Fascinating stuff.
