  1. I had a super easy recovery and thought I was home free, but now am suffering with horrid nausea and can barely eat/drink anything. Hopefully, the same is not true for you.
  2. I am six weeks out and I certainly can't yet. I can drink a couple gulps, but I get sick to my stomach almost immediately.
  3. Hi everyone, I don't want to be Debbie Downer, but I'm 6 weeks post-op today and feel just horrible, so horrible that I'm having serious regrets about doing this, especially since my BMI was only 31. I've lost 30 pounds, which is great, but I honestly don't even care because I've been plagued by horrendous nausea. I'm nauseous all the time, from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep. I'm nauseous if I don't eat, and then eating soothes it a bit, and then it starts up again after meals. I feel like I did in my first-trimester of pregnancy, except I'm not pregnant and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. I'm also having diarrhea/loose stools. I can't get any Protein in. I've been living on homemade egg drop Soup and saltines. Everything else makes me sick. I now have an aversion to most things I've eaten due to the nausea. I saw a doctor. They can't find anything wrong. I don't have gallstones. The sleeve looks fine. I don't have an infection. I'm taking omperazole. I was very nauseous the first three days post-op, but I figured that was due to the anesthesia. The nausea went away but returned with a vengence about three weeks post-op and it's been ongoing for weeks now. I can't find any information about this. My surgeon is telling me the sleeve shouldn't be making me nauseous, and it's not a malabsorptive surgery so I shouldn't have diarrhea, but it's clearly the sleeve! I had no issues pre-op with my digestive system! Has anyone else experienced this and had it go away? I'm just so depressed. I don't want to live this way. It's debillitating.
  4. Longer-life, yup, I eat about 300 to 400 cals a day, can't eat more. I was so excited to have this surgery, and I want to be one of those people who loves life and weight loss, but I have two young kids, and I drag myself through the day. It's terrible. I am going to try a different antacid for sure. Nateeks, when did you feel better? I've been eating crackers - saltines and Cheez-its - totally not healthy but they settle my stomach!
  5. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. I may try nexium. I was tested for H. Pylori and was negative. I honstly had no digestive issues at all before surgery, and I don't even feel like I have reflux now, just the horrid nausea. I'm also in a rough position because I had my surgery in Mexico, so there's not calling my surgeon; well, I could call him, but he can't prescribe anything. It sucks.
  6. Maybe I should try a different OTC reflux medication? Laurann, I am glad to hear you're better. That gives me hope! Longer-life, I have tried peppermint tea, have not thought of rubbing alcohol. Are the nausea suppositories OTC? What seemed to help you?

Would You Do It Again? Why Or Why Not?

At this point, I would have to say no. I had no complications but I've been nauseous for weeks, even though seemingly nothing is "wrong." I feel like crap. Yeah, I've lost weight, but it's hard to live this way.
  8. I'm almost four weeks post op and going through the same thing. Yogurt doesn't bother me, but milk does. I NEVER had an issue with lactose either, so it sucks that I do now. From what I understand, it's because lactose can be hard to digest, and your stomach just went through a major upheavel. Most people a few months out don't seem to have an issue, and I hope the same is true for us

    Alcohol After 6 Weeks Out?

My triglicerides were around 40 when I was tested before the sleeve. I rarely drink.
  10. Um, I'm more than three weeks post op and I can barely get in 300 calories per day. 800 sounds amazingly high to me. I couldn't do it. I get full so fast. I actually wish I had slightly less restriction.

    Alcohol After 6 Weeks Out?

I am wondering the same thing. I am in the medical field, and that makes no sense that the liver would react differently to a larger vs. smaller stomach. Alcohol passes from the stomach and intestines into the blood. It is then metabolized by enzymes in the liver. That process doesn't change.

    First Event Tomorrow

That does seem awfully soon. All you can really do is focus on the conversation and drink some water and/or apple juice. Or not go.
  13. I'm almost three weeks post-op. I have been on mushies/purees this week as per my post-op diet, and they are not sitting well at all. I do fine with liquids. But all mushies I've tried (unsweetened apple sauce; soft scrambled eggs; refried beans) have made me a little sick; I get full super fast (an ounce or half an egg and I'm done), and then I start burping like stuff is coming up, and my stomach feels unsettled, and I get diarrhea and slight nausea. What gives? Should I go back to liquids for a few days and then try again? Is this normal?
  14. Great post. No, you are not that guy, and that's something to celebrate. Now, go flirt with the barrista!
  15. I'm less than a week behind you, and I can barely eat an ounce of anything. I eat around 400 cals a day and cannot fathom eating 1,100. That sounds like a lot to me at this stage.
  16. I see you're about two months out. How much are you eating, and how are you feeling?
  17. Thank you, that helps, Indymom.
  18. Lissa, you're six months out now - how much can you take in now at once?
  19. I think I may be eating too fast too. I was such a fast eater before. I've slowed down significantly but probably not enough because I notice that when I'm done I feel full, but a few minutes later I feel sick and TOO full. Thanks, ladies.
  20. I think I may do that. Maybe I introduced them too fast (meaning too many new things per day). And I really hope this isn't permanent because I've felt fairly miserable today.

  22. The second day. I haven't been constipated at all.
  23. I didn't take them at all. They gave me pain meds for two days in the hospital, and that was it. I haven't been in any pain.

    Holy Heartburn!

I've never had reflux either and just started feeling it yesterday. My dr told me that long-term the sleeve does not CAUSE heartburn, but it can make it worse if you've had it before. Hopefully for people like you and me it will go away after a few months. My doctor told I only had to be on the Omprazole for six weeks, but it might be longer. I'm super bummed about it too, but I knew it was a possibility before going in.
