I'm looking to get the lap band procedure done, but before making any mistakes, I want to know what issues I should tell the doctor to get him to proceed with the procedure. I'm on the borderline of the BMI scale, so I don't want him to just think I want it for cosmetic reasons. -

So you think if I have issues and family history, and if I'm self-pay they'll be ok with it..? I mean my BMI is 32-33, and my father had his first heart bypass when he was 45 from heart disease. I went to the doctors seminar last week and I think I'm more ready now then I was before. I guess it's all about learning how to eat small proportions. -
The seminar was good, but I'm still wondering if they will even allow me to get banded. My BMI is 32 - 33, so it's a stretch. But some people tell me if your self-pay they'll do it if your over 30. I guess I need to call them and see where I take it from here. Is there someone in the office that you have had good communication with?

Well if your self-pay you can get financing through a local bank. Lynn the office manager told me a couple of the local credit unions will finance the procedure.

I know the seminar is right around the corner, I'm excited slash nervous in the same breath. But I think I'm ready to kick this extra weight. So how have you been? Did you have a fill yet? Where was the procedure done? and how did you feel the next day? I'm sorry for all the questions, but you dealth with the same doctor and everything as me. Thank you so much for all your help!!

No I'm actually going to the seminar May 3rd. What is the PCP? And what types of things did the nutritionist and psychologist talk about? So you haven't even seen the DR yet? (about your personal situation)

I think part of the problem is insurance companies should be letting people get the procedure before they get to 35 BMI or higher. That's why I'm trying to get it done myself before I get to that situation. I know my family history of heart disease, and obesity, so thats why I want it done. -

Wow so it was only 11,500..? A local doctor is saying it's 17,000, but to be honest I would rather have it local. I'm trying to get a consult by me, so we'll see.

But who are these people.., are they just people that wrote some books?

So what did you have to do? Did you have to fly there first for the consult, and then fly back for the procedure? And will a local doctor do your fills? Thank you all for the help.

Do you think US doctors would band me with a BMI of 33..? I would self pay.

But if I were to pay it out right for the procedure, is there still red tape...? I mean I guess a doctor would almost have to look at it like a cosmetic procedure at that point. But for me its more for health reasons.

I mean my BMI is 33-34, but I'm so sick of it. I have heart disease in my family history and thats what scares.
