3 Months Out And Still No Regrets!
Joni replied to caiti_marie00's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What an inspiration to other young people you are! Congratulations on your success. I hope your head catches up with the wonderful changes your body is going through because you deserve all the compliments and positivity that is coming your way. You are a very beautiful woman right now, and it's only going to get better. Hold on for the ride!!! And I hope those nasty stomach pains don't come back, but if they do, it sounds like your surgeon has a good plan. -
Janet I think the sizes just might be a little bigger than they used to be, and maybe people have re-distributed their weight and really tightened up with exercise. That's all I can think of. The image of being too big and squeezing into clothes is a disturbing image to say the least!! It seems the younger the person is, the more they don't mind wearing too tight clothing so we see their big bellies, rolls, and big butts!! As for me, I was always trying to wear very loose things trying to conceal my fat, which is a joke too - what's there can't be hidden very well! Hey - I lost another pound today!!! scale said 185.7 - I'll wait to Celebrate though until it stays the same for a few days....... I've learned not to trust the scale. And I found out I am ALWAYS 3 or 4 pounds more in the doctor's office. I think mine is more accurate..hahahahaha

Well, nice to know your name, Janet! I'm happy to report I lost a pound. And I doubled the antacid, and was able to eat and drink today without pain or burning! I guess it is reflux after all..... whatever, I'm just so relieved I'm better. It's sooo cold here today after the warm beautiful weather we've been having. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Hugs to all!

I absolutely love what your surgeon said! Mine said, you're doing great, see you next time. Yours sounds like he really knows what's going on! -
15 Day Post Op 21 Lbs Down But Stalled 3 Days Now...
Joni commented on 2BonederfulAgain's blog entry in My Journey to Onederland!
I had been the same weight for over 3 wks, then instead of losing, I gained a pound. I am 5 wks postop. Being the same for 3 or 4 days is nothing. Could be retained fluids, body adjustments, time of the month, etc., etc., etc. This will be ongoing so please don't fret. I figure it will come off when it comes off, and I'll just take it as it comes. You might want to put the scale away, and get it out once a week or every 2 wks to stop the madness...lol. -
notime 48 lbs is INCREDIBLE!! Congrats. I haven't been feeling very well. I have a lump in my throat, and at times it hurts to swallow. After 2 small bites of something, I feel the lump, pain, and burning. I've been waking up early a.m. with a cough, and burning in my throat. No nausea or throwing up, but a real bitter burning feeling in my throat and chest. Don't even want to eat because of it. Called surgeon, they think it's just reflux and doubled the dose of my antacid to try for a week before they would order an upper GI. I kinda wish they would have just gone ahead and ordered it to find out if there is something else going on. I have lost 1 lb in 3 frickin weeks. Whoppee do. I'm a little frustrated in that regard. Feeling a little discouraged and depressed today. I want to be able to eat some, enjoy it, and drink my fluids without a problem. We'll see how it goes...... tomorrow is a new day.

How To Pick A Protein Powder
Joni replied to Shoe_Vixen's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Most recommended is whey protein isolate. It is the highest quality. "Isolate"is important as it is more easily absorbed by our bodies. My doctor also recommended Unjury protein powders which I tolerated very well. It comes in vanilla, 2 different chocolates, strawberry, and the chicken soup. They also have a protein cheddar cheese sauce, but that is seasonal. You also want to look for low sugar. Also, your body can only utilize so much protein at one time. More than 30 gms would be a waste. Good luck. I'm sure others will have input as well. -
One thing, I made a "countdown" calendar. I inclulded my weight each day. I put down my emotions and if it was a really hard day or not. I took great joy in X'ing out the days as they went by. Make sure you take your measurements before surgery too. Think about your liver. If it is not shrunk enough with preop diet, they will not do your surgery, but a couple screw ups is not going to ruin it. That's a good incentive for staying on track. No one's perfect. Don't be too hard on yourself. You CAN do this. Hold your head up and put this behind you. Move on and go forward! Soon your sleeve day will be here!!

Joni replied to randalljohn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 wks postop. Have lost a total of 24 pounds counting 2-wk liquid preop diet. In 3 wks, I had lost 1 pound. I've been eating about 500-600 cal a day, and today I gained a pound! Just walking for exercise so far, and getting very frustrated. -

Lstarlton, Kiki, and linkybo - thanks for your posts! I appreciate the info. Especially the thread Kiki with MeginNola! I'm waiting for surgeon's office to contact me so I can ask questions. Lstar - I had surgery on 4/23, so just one day before you. And funny you mentioned watermelon - I've actually been craving it but also not supposed to have anyfresh fruit yet so I was too scared to try it. Did you hear from your surgeon's office yet? Just curious what they tell you. I'll let you know when I hear from mine. If not today, I will call again in the a.m. -
Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?
Joni replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
First, I have had crappy weight loss. I was 5 wks postop yesterday. In 3 wks, I have lost 1 pound. I gained weight while in the hospital for sleeve, admitted weighing 203, came home at 210. I now weigh 189. I started preop diet weighing 213. So, I have lost a total of 24 pounds. Your 49 sounds pretty damn good to me! in the last couple weeks, I wake up every day with burning in my throat. And then through most of the day, as well as throughout the day. I feel like I have a lump at the base of my throat. When I start to eat, it can get worse with burning. I know this is probably acid reflux, and I am already taking an antacid. I will be calling the surgeon's office tomorrow to find out if this is normal at this stage. I also get nauseous at times. These things are turning me off food so I hardly want to eat anything at all even though I am forcing myself. I go from tolerating protein drinks to barely being able to swallow them without gagging. I too had been tracking everything I ate, along with nutrition facts, but haven't been doing that the last week or so. It seems I have a good day followed by 1 or 2 bad days before a good day again. I'm hoping the surgeon will have some answers for me and also that this is just another phase to get through. Like you, I'm not sorry and don't regret my decision for sleeve, just frustrated, a little worried, and wanting to understand what's going on. -
I made the emily bites taco cupcakes too. I loved them and the whole family did too. They are really delicious. I highly recommend them. Can't wait to try others now. Oh, I did make the egg, sausage, and hash brown cups and didn't like them. Too much potato for one thing.
-
Good luck LoriRay! It won't be long now!!
-
aviiva - yes, look by the refrigerated packaged foods. They are in a box.
-
Sleeved 4/23. With preop - down 24 pounds.
-
I was told not to try salad until 6 wks postop. Also, seeds are a no-no right now. Hope you continue to feel better Sheila and have a nice weekend away. I wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day weekend also. I'll be going away for a couple days myself with my sister. It will work out great because we like the same things, so whatever she orders, we'll just get an extra plate for me and I'll eat a small bit from that. I'll also take along Protein Powder to make my drinks. Oh, and I purchased a couple different Protein Bars. One is Think Thin in chocolate Peanut Butter. If you've ever had an Atkins bar, it tasted like that. The other has been mentioned in the forums, Power Crunch Protein energy bars. I bought peanut butter creme and french vanilla creme. I've only tried the PB, and it was delicious! There are wafers in it which makes it lighter on the stomach. It has 13 gm of protein, 5 gm of sugar, 12 gm fat (high I know), and 200 cal. So, really it's a meal for us. The vanilla has 205 cal, 12 fat, 5 sugar, and 14 protein. I hope it's good too. I plan on taking those with me while away. I've been feeling a few spasms at the base of my throat again the last couple days which is a drag. Going to take it easy when drinking for sure. Hope all is well with others!!

Anyone Regret Being Sleeved?
Joni replied to Preacher's Wife's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I agree with Delta. I have some issues, trials, problems, etc., but my goal is the same. To lose weight, be healthier, hopefully improve my life in more ways than one, and feel good about how I look and feel. The sleeve is my answer, and at 4 wks postop, I don't regret it at all. The only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. -
stomach - no, never. Side - about 4 days postop.

Right After Surgery, What Worked Best For You? Hot, Cold, Room Temp?
Joni replied to suzcomptime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same. I'm 4 wks now and once again like really cold drinks, but for the first couple weeks, cold and hot hurt and gave me that bubble feeling. So, room temp was best for water, and drinks and warm broth felt great. Remember, all this is temporary as we go through different stages. -
Oh Nooooo, I'm Snacking Way To Much, What To Do?
Joni replied to kdippy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took a workshop called "The Hunger Within" and what you're doing Lissa is exactly what was recommended. The example was Oreos. You love Oreos and in the grocery store you want them bad. Get the package in your cart, put it back, repeat. We were taught, okay if you have to have them - they come in a small pack of 6 - buy them and enjoy the hell out of them while you're eating them. Take your time. Then you don't have that big package sitting at home waiting for you to come back again and again to it. And you've had your fix. The little single serving size bags of cheetos or chips would be perfect for that. -
I'm trying to stop consuming anything with aspartame, so I look for the drink mixes with other sweeteners like Splenda (sucralose) or stevia. Crystal light pure is one along with some other brands.

Very inspiring blog post ChaCha! I missed you! You've made some major food changes for your diet. I was just at Whole Foods and looking at better quality foods, thinking that just might be the way I want to go. I'm 4 wks postop now, and eating soft foods. Quantity is still very small, and I too always put more on my little plate than I can come near to eating!! Which is okay with me. Weight loss has been slow, but who cares?! I'm fine with that too. Congrats with your progress!
