Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?
Joni replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
She was disappointed? Did she expect more or less weight loss? Have you had a hard time getting fluids in? How much do you think you were averaging? The weight loss sounds great to me! I had gained 7 pounds while in the hospital and dropped that pretty quick. Hang in there!! -
I'm so sorry for what you're going through. We never know what will happen, and we should be aware there are always risks involved. I wish you well and hope you're on the road to recovery now. You're absolutely right about being your own advocate. It is so important, and I hope people who read your blog take it to heart. I bet once you're feeling better that weight is going to drop so fast you won't believe it! Hugs to you.

Almost Time! Surgery On May 7Th. Second Thoughts......
Joni replied to roxy.grissom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 4/23, but I swear I was more nervous about the preop diet than anything else. I'm not gonna lie, it is really hard; but I was so proud that I was actually able to do it, and surgeon said my liver was "perfect." You just DO IT. Protect yourself, try not to put yourself in situations where you'll be tempted. I wanted to get locked ini a closet but you get the idea. I made a 2-week calendar with room to write and recorded something each day with my weight. I took great joy in crossing the days out. Some days are easier than others, you will get through it and on the other side, is the sleeve and the beginning of the new you!! Good luck and hugs. -
I got messed up, I didn't mean OIKOS - so Fage has 23 gm of protein in a cup??
-
Nite nite! Congrats you made it. I had the hiatal hernia too. Actually seems kinda common with us. Oh yeah, I remember how hard it was to take a deep breath, and had to use the incentive spirometer. Ouch. Fortunately, it doesn't last long - 2-3 days for me.
-
I'm supposed to get 70 gm/protein and 64 oz fluid. Wow that's a lot of protein in your yogurt. I'll have to check out OIKOS. Don't know that I've ever paid attention and seen it. What flavors do they have?

Yes but it will definitely be awhile before you return to normal things. Depends on what your favs are.... If I choose for you, lots of pizza and cheeseburgers, and salad! That's what I miss the most. -

I agree they should. And someone said on here, never trust a fart, which I laughed at but now I completely understand how true that is!! -
Am I Going Crazy? My Personality Changed.
Joni replied to jme53071's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh and my daughter asked me why I was so mean to her dad today! I asked him if he thought I had been rude and he said "sometimes, but I understand." I then blasted my daughter for "butting in." I then took a moment, and apologized to them both and said I would try to work on this a little harder but please cut me some slack. We all love each other, as your family loves you. You'll get through this. Not to worry. -

Just a thought, apologize when you're out of line, relax, and take it easy on yourself. You had a major surgery and are adjusting and recovering. Try to be kind to yourself and others. Come on this site to vent! -

Absolutely - I was the same. Please follow the preop diet from here on out. You want your liver in tip top shape. I know it's murder, mine was grueling. After the sleeve, you won't have a choice to be bad. I was sleeved on 4/23 and I haven't been hungry once since then. And even if I wanted to be "bad" that couldn't happen when all I can do is sip a liquid!! This is a difficult journey, but well worth it I feel. Good luck! -
Next Week Sleevers ? Or Anyone Whom Are Upcoming April Sleevers?
Joni replied to EnjoyingWhoIAmBecoming's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Those protein shots (berry blast, berry frost) saved my butt the last couple days when I got so turned off the protein shakes big time! They are not much better, someone called them "goo" I think they taste like medicine, but 2.5 ounces is not a lot to get down. I try to distract myself as I am sipping it down and in 15 minutes I have had 28 gm of protein. They will probably become intolerable soon, but they worked yesterday and today. I also just received from Protein To Go the vanilla latte protein shots, but haven't tried yet. I'll do that tomorrow morning. -
What an ignorant ass of a man. I'm sorry you were subjected to that. I will say a prayer for you that a door opens. Good luck!

Interesting, as I am experiencing the same. I didn't think of the sweeteners. NUT told me if I was using high quality protein powder, it shouldn't be that. Maybe it's the milk, although I didn't have any most of the day and still diarrhea. But the sweeteners, hmmmm. Any particular sweetener worse than others? -
My heating pad was my best friend for that. I had it attached to me for the first few days. Helped very much. Good Luck!
-
Hi Sheila - are you talking about the Protein shots? I resorted to those too. It is like cherry goo or medicine syrup in a way. I ordered the Protein to Go vanilla latte shots, and they finally arrived. I'll let you know how they are when I try it. Everything is suddenlly turning me off - major. I got my vanilla unjury today which is going to help. I like that mixed with orange crystal light, and that's what I'm trying to drink right now. Went on my first real "outing" today - Walmart for groceries. Well, it was a bit much and I had to sit down a few times and also felt like I was going to faint. Not a good feeling at all. At least I was with hubby to watch over me. It was still good to get out and feel back ini the real world again. Now if I can get this diarrhea to stop and not be turned off all the protein, life will be grand!!

I second that from ChaCha! Yeah over 50s!!!! We rock. After all, 50 is the new 30 right?

Any Hiatal Hernia / Sleevers?
Joni replied to ibthin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was shocked when I woke from surgery and dr said I had had a very large hiatal hernia that he repaired. I had no idea. I was sleeved on 4/23 and I just stopped getting these incredible spasms that would actually start at the base of my throat and go down to about the end of my sternum. Hurt like hell. I still have difficulty swallowing sometimes with even little sips feeling "stuck" or a pill causing pain going down but it keeps getting better. As long as I know it will stop, and it will, I'm just dealing with it. -
Ohhh how exciting! Good luck to you. Definitely let us know how you're doing. Best decision I ever made and I'm 56. I'm sending you a great big HUG! and NewHope - that's awesome! I had no idea that would be possible.
-
If you're not that far out from surgery, that shoulder pain is very common after laparoscopic surgery. It is air. I didn't have much fortunately, but my hubby had it for about 2-1/2 weeks after surgery and was very uncomfortable. And walking is the best thing for it. If it gets worse than it is now though, please call your dr.
-
How exciting!!! And you don't have that long period of waiting and waiting. Good luck - it'll be the best thing you ever did for yourself!!! See you on the "loser's bench."

That sounds incredible! Then you could franchise, and set up shops across the states from people you get right here. I'm in Michigan so you either have to move here or have someone else start here so I can enjoy your cooking!
