Amazed At What 61/2 Weeks Post Surgery Is Like!
Kristin replied to royboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats awesome! Congrats! 60 lbs is amazing. And, Wow you've been productive! It's great that everything has been going well for you. :-) -
My family usually goes out to eat over the weekend or on Friday nights. I am only 4 weeks out, so I haven't really had to do this yet but unless I plan on bringing home a ton of leftovers, I was thinking I would order off the kids menu. anyone else do this? Are the restaurants usually ok with that? Do you tell them that you just had surgery and can't eat a lot? I know soup would also be a good option, but kids menu usually has grilled chicken.....

Weighing Yourself After Surgery
Kristin replied to andersonlj's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have to admit, I do weigh myself daily. I just can't stop. I'm not at all discouraged by the number I see each day. Even when I've stalled for a week or so, I still remind myself that I have lost 26 lbs since surgery 7 weeks ago, so that is pretty good! -
Yep, I was already under anesthesia when they placed it in. Once surgery was over the most awkward part about the catheter was walking around with it hanging. But everyone was so nice at the hospital , and the nurses know exactly how to make you comfortable. The sooner you can get up and walking, the sooner they will remove it. I know it is the worry of the unexpected but I wouldnt be too concerned about it. Good Luck!

Tips For Protein Shakes?!
Kristin replied to mxmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink Nectar brand Protein powder. The chocolate truffle is the best. It has 23g protein, no carbs, no sugar, and if only 100 calories. It mixes really well with water and tastes good! I buy it on www.bariatricpantry.com or at the Vitamin Shoppe. Good luck -
for me it took about 5 days!

This May Sound Repetitive, But....
Kristin replied to happy1957's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on being sleeved!!! I felt considerable better after the 1st week. The gas took about 2 weeks for me to work itself out, however, my gas pain was in my shoulders instead of my stomach. I did find that getting out and walking each day helped a lot! Even if it is only for 10 minutes. I felt tired that first week I went back to work, but otherwise I felt fine. Everyone is different, but I think you will be feeling much better in a few more days. If not, talk to your doctor and try to take another week off work to recover. Hope you start feeling better soon! And again, congratulations! It is such an exciting amazing process!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR! -
OK, so I need to vent....I am 5 weeks post-op and I've been doing really well, but the past few days I have been craving chocolate like crazy. I have, for the most part, resisted these cravings. (I did suck on a piece of chocolate for a couple minutes, then spit it out) I thought it was due to all the sweets lying around because of Christmas, but low and behold, I get my period this morning!! What in the world!?? I have always had crazy sweet cravings before my period, I never would have imagine I would still get them post-op!! Well, I guess your hormones don't change when you lose weight..... :-( Thanks for the vent sesion....stinkin' periods....

How Long Did You Stay In The Hospital?
Kristin replied to shellbelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was at 10:00AM on Monday 11/21/11 and I left the hospital around 1:00pm on Tuesday. 11/22/11. 1 night stay was good enough for me. I was walking laps around that floor....so bored!! I met with my dietician a week before surgery and then again two weeks after. Good Luck!! -
Dreaded 3-week Stall - Info?
Kristin replied to thebionicbroad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had a 3 week stall. I will admit, I was frustrated. It lasted a week, during that time, I just continued doing what I had been, I went to the gym and after a week, it broke. I hear some last longer than others. If it happens, it is nothing you are doing wrong, just your body sorting out all the changes going on. I am officially 5 weeks out now and down another 9lbs since my stall! Yay! It is good to hear that you are recovering well. And you are down 25lbs?? How sweet is that!!? Good Luck! -

Strong Adversion To Protein Supplement
Kristin replied to Cheles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What kind of protein prefer are you using? I've tried a couple that were gross, but my dietician rcommended Nectar brand. The Nectar chocolate truffle is really good and mixes with water easily. -
Congrats on your accomplishment!! That is wonderful! I can't wait to get to the 180s. Right now my goal is to get to 199. Only 9 more pounds to go and I will be under 200!!

Question....will I potentially still lose some of my hair if I am getting in all 60-80grams of protein a day. Since 2 days post-op I haev always gotten in at least 60g protein. Is there still a chance? I think my doctor said this happens at around 3-4 months....let me know if this has happened to any of you!!!!

Tips For Eating Slower !
Kristin replied to Liliana Arleen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dietician recommended to set my spoon/fork down between each bite. Sounds simple but it does work. It gives you time to think about waiting before taking you next bite. -
Snack Ideas At 1 Month Post Op Please Share Them :)
Kristin replied to Liliana Arleen's topic in Food and Nutrition
I take turkey pepperoni and lay them on a plate, microwave them for about 20 seconds and they get nice and crispy. Low fat, low carb and a nice boost of protein!! You can even add a sprinkle or mozzerella on them. Yummmm -
Almost One Week... Is This Normal?
Kristin replied to cbates31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. I think you should call your doctor. I know everyone is different, but my pain only lasted for a couple days after surgery. Besides a little soreness right at the incision site. Better to be safe than sorry, not sure how the risk of infection is, but I would imagine that would cause pain. Just for peace of mind, the best bet is to run it past yor surgeon. -
I use the Nectar brand as well. No Carbs, 100 Calories, and 23g protein. THe Chocolate Truffle is my favorite, but Vanilla is good too :-)

Today I Start 2 Week Pre-op Gastric Sleeve Surgery Diet
Kristin replied to mouse trap's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My 1st week of pre-op consisted of 3oz lean meat and 1/2 cup veggie and that is all besides 2 protein shakes and water for the rest of the day. I don't think it will kill you to have a little yogurt, the doctor just watch the amount of carbs...the high protein diet is used to shrink your liver for surgery, making it easier for the doctor to perform the surgery. As my dietician stated, "the pre-op diet is not just to torture us". LOL Good Luck with everything!
