HELP Met with surgeon today - Confused!
amy replied to Bamalama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok... Not sure where you got these statistics, but that is not true. I assure you people are losing more than 25 pounds after going through surgery. I just had my surgery six days ago and I have dropped twelve pounds. Now... the Lap-Band is a tool to help you lose weight. It's not a quick fix and you have work the band to make it work for you. I would suggest that you do some more research, talk more with your doctor and read the success stories on this board before you make your final decision. Good luck and I hope you find the best solution for you. -
Hi All, I'm back. All is well. I'm a little sore and a little weak, but other than that, no major complaints. My surgery was Thursday, that went fine. I had a bad reaction to the morphine the following day. I kinda freaked my family out. My doctor came by my room three times to check on me and just stood there rubbing me with a worried look on his face. Luckily, I remember nothing about it! My mom is still hugging me everytime she looks at me. Anyway... I think today will be a good day and I'm hoping to be on the upswing. I gotta say, I am a little ready for something more substantial than broth. It's going to be a long ten days on clear fluids!

Another cool find! I am so sure this is going to be my best friend after surgery. Found it at my favorite hang-out Wal-mart. It's a shaved ice maker. Rival $24.96. It makes the perfect fluffy shaved ice. A little crystal light or juice poured over the ice and it is the best crunchy, sink your teeth in, won't kill you, allowable fun you can have during the fun and festive liquid stage.

Hi Weightingtolose, I'm getting my band the day before you. I know it's a little scary about the surgery, especially if you have never had surgery, but it's really not as bad as you are thinking. First of all, you won't feel or remember anything during the surgery and from all I have read here, the pain afterward seems quite manageable. Just keep your eye on the prize and stay focused on the great things are about to happen to you. Stay in touch with this a-May-zing group of people. We are all here to pull you through!

I found my answer to a personal blender. Oster makes an attachment accessory that fits most of their blenders. It's called the Oster Blend n' Go 7 piece Smoothie Kit, $12.96 at Wal-mart and Amazon. It works just like the bullet, same idea, and I already have a blender with a stronger motor. One less gadget to clutter the counter and I have $47 in my pocket!

Hey Ragdoll Just saw your message. I've been at my mother's house all day. We had a wonderful Mother's Day! The blender attachment is called a Oster Blend n' Go 7 piece Smoothie Kit - model 6026. Yes, it looks like you can order online. Oster.com and I think maybe Amazon might have it. Mine was $12.96 at Wal-mart. I have decided it takes up less room than the bullet and it has to be stronger, not to mention the $47 in my pocket! :clap2:

Hi Ya'll I'm doing it again. Nesting syndrome before the new baby, I mean new band, gets here. I was just at Wal-mart stocking up on more things I might "need" and found the coolest thing. I've seen where lots of people on this forum have sworn by their magic bullet blender for the liquid stage. After I did some research, I found they are $60 and have had some bad reviews (cheaply made, breaks, leaks). Well low and behold I found an accessory smoothie maker cup that attaches to my 20 year old Oster blender! It fits most Oster blenders and it turns into a travel mug, just like the bullet, same easy clean up as the bullet and all for $12. Hey, I might spring for an extra! I also like that my blender has a stronger motor than the bullet and it's one less gadget to own!

Hi Slackation, WoW... That is fast, but men drop weight so much faster than women. I'm sure you will taper off soon to the more reasonable 1 to 2 lbs. a week. However, I would sure talk to my doctor about this to make sure you are getting the right nutrition. Are you getting enough protein?

Hi Mommytokk, I have definately run amok, I was ironing at 11 p.m. last night! I know what you mean about not sleeping well, my mind races with excitement when I finally get in bed, then I toss and turn. You'd think with all this activity, I would lose some weight! BTW, I live in wonderful Birmingham, Alabama, the best kept secret of the South.

Hi Yall, (yes, I'm from the South and it just popped out) Has anyone been "nesting" before surgery? I feel like I'm about to have a baby. I've been cleaning like crazy, stocking up on stuff for the house, like I'll never be able to leave again and I have even cleaned out my sock drawer! I realize I'm a nut, but the upside is my house IS clean. What has gotten in to me?

Looks like May to me! Welcome!

Great post on what to eat. It sounds reasonable. I'll print it out and hope this agrees with my doctor says. I've been wondering what an eating plan would look like. Thanks.
