Good Morning! It's funny because I've recently realized the same thing. I used to drink quite a bit while working out, but now it doesn't quite sit well when doing cario. I don't feel sick or uncomfortable, just not quite right. I make sure that I rehydrate after the gym.

Major Bump In The Road
lookingahead replied to aldmb2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm so sorry to hear this. I can only imagine how disappointed and frustrated you are. Hopefully paperwork will get squared away and you'll be able to get another date on the calendar quickly. All insurance is different, but a BMI of 50 seems high -- but again insurance all varies. -
Hi! I had some issues with Protein shakes post surgery, something about the sweetener that is used in them. I read a recipe on here that used the Target whey Protein powder in vanilla which got me switching my thinking from pre-made drinks to making my own. I mixed the protein powder with unsweetened almond milk, a splash of vanilla extract and a couple ice cubes and gave it a whirl in the blender and I loved it. Super easy way to get in 26 g of protein. Whatever you do, listen to your body and call your dr if you continue to not be able to eat. In time you'll figure out what works for you and your sleeve. Do your best to get in your protein via yogurt, and what you can tolerate. Are you drinking enough fluids? Hope this helps a bit.

Post-Op Vitamins & Weight Loss
lookingahead posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi -- Curious to find out if not taking a multi-Vitamin can impact weight loss? I haven't been the best at consistently taking mine. I was given the go ahead to take them starting week 3, and I'm just finishing up week 5. I'm not a fan of the flavor and leaves me feeling a bit icky after I take it. Curious to see what you guys thought, if there is any correlation between lack of Vitamins & weight loss . I have an appointment with my DR on Thurs, so going to see what other options there are for vitamins. The Bariatric Advantage berry flavor chewables are not the greatest if you ask me! Don't want to short myself nutrients, nor weight loss so eager to see what my other options are. Eager to hear what you guys have to say. -
Smoothie Recipes
lookingahead replied to BeachWithMyBabies's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Thanks for sharing your recipes! Tonight I finally picked up some Whey Protein....someone on the board recommended the Target Whey vanilla and I have to say it's delicious!!! One of my favorite "fat girl" treats was a vanilla milkshake with nuts in it (go figure) so I tried to replicate it, and I feel like I'm having a milk shake. 1 scoop Vanilla Whey 1 cup (8 oz) Unsweetened Almond Milk 6 Raw Almonds 6 Ice Cubes (my fridge makes small ice cubes) Splash of pure vanilla extract Blend it up, and it's great. I love the small chunks of almonds while drinking it. It's a total treat, and had a good amount of protein (approx 27)! It is 280 calories, so going forward is likely going to be a dinner rather than an evening treat. Wanted to pass it along just incase anyone was interested. -
Daily Sleeve Schedule
lookingahead replied to dominique's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the post! You more or less wrote up what's on the big post-it note on my work computer....so I make sure that I get everything in on a day. Totally agree that weekends are a bit harder because you aren't in a set routine. I just believe it will become more routine the more that we do it. I'm a week behind you. We can do it! But I sure do know where you are coming from :-). I spend more time thinking about food now than I did before surgery. -
When I first started back at the gym years ago, I just started out nice and easy. I parked myself on the treadmill in corner and kept going on that observing everyone else, and taking it all in (how they used the equipment). As my confidence grew, I began to branch out and try other things. Friday nights were typically slow at my PF, so that is when I started to try some of the weight stuff or other equipment that intimidated me. That's one of the things that I like about PF so much is people just leave you alone and let you do your thing. Don't quit :-). It will be an amazing transformation as you feel your inner confidence grow as you conquer for fear of the gym. You CAN do it. I do also agree about going by yourself, much easier to just worry about you; since you are there for you. Also if you have an iPod / mp3 player make your self a fun music mix that you can only listen to at the gym. In the beginning, set up a reward plan for yourself, if you go 3x a week you can get a manicure or go to the movies.

Post-Op Vitamins & Weight Loss
lookingahead replied to lookingahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm hoping I can go back to my Nature Made multi-Vitamin since I can swallow pills (I assume everyone can?) or maybe try gummies. I know I've heard of some people taking gummies for their Vitamins, I think! Will see what the DR says on Thursday. Thanks everyone for your input. -
Thanks for the review of those! I'd seen them in the store and made a mental note to try them down the road. I thought they'd make a great panini sandwich.

Perhaps I didn't understand what your point / question was in your post then. Again, like I said in my post just sharing what worked for ME. I feel that you have to be able to connect with your provider, and this was something that I was able to tell fairly quickly if it was a good fit or not.

reallyrosy --- My thought is that you need to find someone that you are 100% comfortable with, and in synch with. It can take several false starts to find someone that you are in synch with (trust me from experience!). Anyone that specializes in addiction, I'd think would be helpful. Sounds like your guy is already coming into your relationship with a view on "your situation". I'd say tell him to take a hike! You are after all going to be sharing the most intimate details of your life with this person. Just my opinion.

Curious to know if anyone eats Sugar Free Ice Cream or Sorbet? After meeting daily protein goals of course.....

I've talked myself in circles over here while I'm doing some advanced planning. My NUT says that meal sizes are supposed to be 4 oz, or half a cup. I'd always thought that 4 oz was referring to the weight of the food, but it sounds post sleeve as though it's the size of the food (and the size of the sleeve)? And that food needs to be translated to cups (i.e 1/2 cup = 4 oz)? So if I am breaking down a meal with Protein, veg and fruit, it would be: 1/4 cup protein, 2 tablespoons veg, and 2 tablespoons fruit? Do you measure precooked or cooked? I'm assuming cooked since many foods shrink while cooking. And how do you get green Beans in a tablespoon?! Is there ever a need to weigh food or will it always be by cups? Appreciate your insight, I still have another week or so before I meet with my NUT.

Hi! I'm on my 6th day of my pre-op diet, and have been doing well and haven't cheated (unless one breath mint counts?) and I'm feeling a bit cranky and don't really want to deal with people. Did anyone else experience this? I'm not angry about not eating because I understand the big picture, but just feel eh meets cranky. Totally excited for the surgery and the future, trying to keep my eye on the prize, but wishing I had more pep. Thoughts?

Super Saturday Weigh In
lookingahead replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think it's a great idea! I'm just about wrapping up my pre-op diet, and have weighed myself everyday. I think this was the first scale I've ever bought, and after just over a week I have to hide it so I will only weigh in once a week or else I'm sure I'm going to make myself insane after surgery. Thanks for starting this thread! -
Cranky....pre-op?!
lookingahead replied to lookingahead's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Kristin! Glad that I'm not alone. Totally like PMS...comes and goes. Fine and then I'm crazy cranky, then I'm crying...then I'm fine. Oy!!!! -
Good luck ladies! Here's to a speedy and smooth recovery.

Help! Thinking About Backing Out!
lookingahead replied to Bcole's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@thinoneday --- I think it is a bit out of line to tell BCole that "she's only 24 a weighs a lot". BCole was looking for guidance and support (as we all are) and not judgement. I'm not looking to start a board battle, if we can't come to a WLS board without being judged by our peers, who understand our struggles what does that say for people outside the WLS community? -
Help! Thinking About Backing Out!
lookingahead replied to Bcole's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
BCole, You and I have the same surgery date. I understand what you are saying about having all sorts of different emotions. In some ways it's a blessing that the process takes a while, and in others it's a bad thing because it does give us so much time with our feelings and our thoughts. You are 100% correct, that only you know what is best for you, your body and your health. The only advice I'd offer up is to trust your instincts. Regardless of what anyone tells you, you need to be true and comfortable with your decision and make the decision for you, so you can live the life that you want to live. I don't have any health issues either, and am active, but feel like I am shorting myself on living my full life because of my weight. Sending good vibes your way! -
Starting my pre-op diet today....raising my cup of black decaf coffee to the future ahead.

What's Up With Caffeine Stretching The Gastric Sleeve?
lookingahead replied to italianlady13's topic in Food and Nutrition
I'm so pleased to hear that you guys are drinking DP / DC. I had a root beer tonight, it was on my food fast bucket list, before my fast starts on Friday morning, and it was one of the first things that I've been sad about thinking "I'll never have this again". I'm not a huge soda drinker, but I do enjoy a DC every now and again. Thanks for sharing your experiences. -
This may be me being overly crazy, but one of the things that I'm most concerned about post surgery is the ability to take a big gulp of Water while I'm working out. Maybe I over estimate how much I "guzzle" when I'm working out, but I'm worried that I won't be able to quench my thirst. Am I just being irrational? You know there is nothing like a nice drink of water! Eager to hear your thoughts and thank you in advance.

Recommendations For Time Off Work?
lookingahead replied to luv-a-bull's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've gone back and forth on how much time to take off -- but since I've found that I can be out on STD, I've decided that I'm going to take 3 weeks. My thinking is that if I don't have to rush back, that I should take the time to get a feeling for this new way of life and get comfortable before I'm back in my regular routine.
