Keep Cheating On 6 Week Pre-Op Diet!
BettyBoop replied to JudeaJordon's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
At 3 years post op, you need to realise now, that if one doesn't take control of their bad habits of eating now, you won't be sucessful. I've seen people only lose a few pounds right after surgery. Because they went back to eating unhealthy, for whatever reason. I've also seen some that have lost over 100 pounds, but then further out, they get back into the same habits and gain all their weight back again. WLS is such a great gift. But it isn't fool proof. It needs our help too. Again, one doesn't change their habits, it won't work in the long run.... Betty -
Anyone know of a good online food diary website? I've used MyFitnessPal for a few years. But now they won't record my diary, because according to them, I am not eating enough!! I hope I am putting this in the right area.... Thanks!

Kaiser - Pre-op weight loss
BettyBoop replied to morgankw's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I too, went through the So CA Kaiser Options class. GREAT CLASS by the way. The weight starts at Orientation. Good luck!! -
Agree. You need to find out your triggers and it sounds like one of them is the TV. However, know that later, your real hunger will come back. For me, losing the weight was fairly easy. I did what they told me to do and I also exercised. Still do, almost daily. I am a year out now. My real hunger is back, although it is better than it was before the sleeve. Maintaining the weightloss is harder. Much harder. Now is the time to learn to eat properly, use that sleeve as a tool and start healthy habits. Good luck!

16 Mos Out...disappointed
BettyBoop replied to tntransplant06's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes! It was called Weight Of A Nation on HBO! I just posted about the 20% above. I knew our bodies want to stay fat, but I didn't realize how much until they said this on this documentary. I highly recommend everyone who is overweight or used to be over weight to watch this! I'm sure it will be out on video! Very informative! I know it made me strive even harder to get this weight off and to keep it off! I also agree with not eating carbs/sugary foods. It really does make you crave more! I do go off track every once and a while. But I go back to the basic's that I learned...this is a life long battle. But use your tool that they gave you and you'll make it! Be one of the 80%! Not the 20% that gain their weight back! YOU CAN DO IT! -
16 Mos Out...disappointed
BettyBoop replied to tntransplant06's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I agree. I'm 6 months out and I still try to stay under 800 calories a day. It isn't easy, but it can be done with the right food choices. I only have about 20 pounds to go, for my goal weight, and it is getting a bit harder. But I go back to what I learned in my Kaiser classes and I have no doubt I'll get there. You can too! But it is a total lifestyle change. Watching what we eat- FOREVER. And exercise..... -
16 Mos Out...disappointed
BettyBoop replied to tntransplant06's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
From what I have learned, one must eat 1200 calories a day to maintain their weight. With some people, that might be more, some might need to eat less. This is not the fault of the sleeve. It isn't magic. The sleeve is a wonderful tool. But our new tool must be used. If we are eating more calories than we burn, we gain weight. Also because we were overweight to begin with, we will never be able to eat like a "normal" person again. On average we must eat 20%. I'm not surprised that your husband lost more weight. It is always easier for males to lose than it is for us females...UGH, thanks to hormones...and we woman just carry more body fat. -
How are they treating you since you've lost so much weight?? Just curious.....

Liquid Diet - What Yogurt Is The Best?
BettyBoop replied to Stacey Nicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even though Chobani has 18 grams of sugar, I still eat it. It's good, and has 12 grams of protein and it's filling and I've managed to almost lose 100 pounds now...I like the black cherry the best... -
Cooking And Bad Habits Creeping Back.

I think recognizing what you were doing is a major achievement! I think before, at least for me, we would give up on dieting. We'd fall off that horse and say screw it! Now, if we fall, we have to get back up on that horse! Never give up! You know what the basic's are for the sleeve. You follow that and you will succeed! -

Almost Fainted This Morning! Help
BettyBoop replied to Melly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is what I was wondering. Sometimes if you're on high blood pressure meds before surgery, you need to reduce or stop them afterwards.... -
After shampooing and conditioning, I towel dry my hair and then put a tiny bit of Moroccan argan oil in the palm of my hands and then rub it through my hair....I think it helps....

Kaiser Richmond/kaiser South San Francisco Gastric Sleeve Brothers And Sisters!
BettyBoop replied to chrissysodapop's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I also couldn't have the RNY because of Rheumatold arthritis as well. Well, Dr. Mun said I could, but he also said if I had a leak, it would be catastrophic for me. He said I could go home and think about it. I told him NO, I'll go with this recommendation! LOLOL And Kaiser does have excellent bariatric surgeons. Dr. Mun is one of the best surgeons in the nation! -

You'll be glad you took the 12 week Option's Program Kaiser makes us take. I think we go in well prepared and know what to expect pretty much before and after surgery. I think it sets many of us up to succeed!! After all, it's easier to lose the weight than to maintain that weightloss. I have no doubt that I will succeed!! Good luck everyone! -
Not what my classes and surgeon told me....you can get dumping syndrome with the sleeve...
-
I so totally agree.............. We all have to remember that 20% of us WILL gain our weight back. Now is the time to set good eating habits....later when your hunger comes back and it will, those habits hopefully will be in place.

Why would you eat ice cream?

OK, I'm almost 4 months out from my GS surgery. I'm doing very well. Lost about 50 pounds before surgery and 40 pounds since. However I do notice that my hunger is back. Bummer. Although it is not as bad as before. And this is NOT head hunger. It's hunger.... I still do very well and keep track of my calories on MyFitnessPal and keep them under 900 calories a day. I'm just curious if those of you as far out or further out have the same issue.... I knew it would come back. I just didn't think it would be this soon.......

Hunger Coming Back?
BettyBoop replied to BettyBoop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do the Yes, I've heard that. But I do take prescription strength omeprazole every morning for my stomach. So it isn't that, I don't think. However I will e mail my surgeon and ask if maybe I need something else. I'm only 4 months out....it's kinda early for the hunger to come back I think.... I don't think I can mix tums with the omeprazole tho.... Thanks for the reminder... -

Hunger Coming Back?
BettyBoop replied to BettyBoop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello!! I get pretty hungry when it is time to eat. And it is controllable. Like I said in my OP, I'm still on track. But because I have rheumatold arthritis, I went into a BIG flare for 2 months after surgery. So they had to give me a cortisone shot and daily prednisone. UGH....however I did OK and still watched what I ate. The hunger started comng back then, but I attributed that to the cortisone. Now I know it wasn't that. I've been off the cortnisone for a month now... So for us sleevers, the hunger usually does come back. I just didn't know it would be this soon..... -
Hunger Coming Back?
BettyBoop replied to BettyBoop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad I'm not the only one. The docs told me it would come back. I just didn't think it would be this fast. Although it is nothing like before. Like you, I still make the right choices. And I had to attend a 12 week class that prepared me for the after effects of surgery and how to live with them. It all was very helpful. Happy you're doing so well!
