    Slow weight loss

I'm 57. I will be two weeks out, this Tuesday. I was sleeved Oct 25. I had lost 53 pounds on my own before surgery keeping my calories under 1300 a day. Now I am basically getting in 510 calories a day and I haven't lost a pound!! I know it's early. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't discouraged. I see my surgeon tomorrow. Maybe they'll give me some answers.
  2. OK, Isn't chilli a bit much for a recuperating stomach?
  3. I understand the 3-5 week stalls. But I stalled right out of surgery. UGH....and it still is going on.... I know it has to end. On 510 calories a day, you have to lose weight. I just wish it would get on the ball!
  4. How exciting!! I hope the same thing happens to me!! I know that I have to lose weight. I'm getting in 510 calories a day! I have to lose the weight. But I tell you, it is frustrating, see the scale not move!! Thanks for commenting. That makes me feel better!
  5. Honestly, I would be careful with the hula hoop. I can see where that might cause some pain in your belly afterwards. Just know, that I am not doing a super heavy workout. I do the exercise bike for about 20-30 min. Sometimes on level 9, but I don't overdo it. Good Luck!
  6. I was sleeved Oct 25th. I started back at the gym Monday. :smile1: Per docs OK! However, I am not doing situps. I am basically doing the recombinant bike...
  7. Agree. You just need time. Also try to sip without swallowing air. I was sleeved Oct 25th. The first few days, I could only maybe get 1/4 TEASPOON down at a time. So try smaller sips. It gets better. I'm just 8 days out, and I can get down the required Water and Protein drinks already... hang in there...
  8. I think I would rather have an overly cautious surgeon than not. I'm sure it's frustrating. But if they push it back to January, you'll bail? All that money you paid out for tests will be wasted and not surgery.......I certainly would re-think that idea. JMO
  9. Paul, I totally get what you are saying. But if I base my weight loss on weighing myself once a week, it doesn't matter if I weigh myself 100 times a day. So, tomorrow will be one week since I was sleeved. I am getting in 60 G of Protein a day with and consuming about 510 calories a day. And so far, I have not lost anything but Water weight from the hospital stay. Because I gained 6 pounds and quickly lost that. BTW, I lost 53 pounds on my own before surgery. And I'm now doing less than half of the calories of pre-op. You'd think I would be melting! Anyway, I will weigh myself in the morning and see if I've lost any weight. I know I will lose weight. I HAVE TO, based on the calories. It's just frustrating! And so sorry about Hijacking the OP thread. It was not my intent.
  10. You're doing better than I. Tomorrow will be a week since my surgery. I average about 510 calories a day. I just drink Protein drinks at this point. And I weigh myself everyday and several times a day. I know I'm not supposed to, but I do anyway! Sometimes it looks like I have dropped 2 pounds and then other times, like now, I am up a pound! Unbelievable!

    Sleeve regret?

I was sleeved last week. Oct 25th. So tomorrow will be one week. I don't regret my decision at all. But this drinking Protein and Water all day long gets to me. With work, I am able to get in 60G of my protein. But I think only once could I get my 64oz of Fluid in. I hate having to drink fluids all day. I don't think I ever got 64 oz of liquids in a day before surgery! And I use to like the Protein drinks. Now I hate them! LOLOL But I know this will all pass and I'll be able to add in some foods. Anyway, here, so far, no regrets! Just some frustrations!! Good Luck to you!

    Incision care and pain

I was sleeved Tuesday, Oct 25 and my doc told me to remove the covers and take a shower just like normal. Leave all the stapled areas alone, but cover the drain after you shower with some gauze and tape, because...well, it drains. Good Luck!

    Bad Knees???

Hello everyone, Ok, I have a really bad knee. So bad that I am a gimp. I limp all the time now. And I am on heavy duty pain meds for it. Also, I think I made it worse by some of the exercises I was doing. I'm stopping those exercises, but I am not stopping my exercise routine. I've found that I really enjoy it! In the mean time, I am icing it and using heat.....as it is really flaring up this week. Anyway, My hope is, once I get this weight off, that my knee will get better. And I am also hoping to stop the pain meds as well. Anyone out there go through this? Tell me your story please!!
  14. Wish I could help you more, but I was just sleeved Tuesday. And I got home yesterday late afternoon. I haven't had a chance to try it yet. So far I've only tried the Premiere chocolate after surgery and only getting in a few ounces. Maybe start a new thread and ask. I'm sure others here have tried it! Good Luck!
  15. Thanks so much!! I appreciate your good thoughts. When is your surgery Ruthie?
  16. Already have. I have a small co payment of $125. I also know of others on Medicare that have had the sleeve done through Kaiser. I'm to be there at 9am tomorrow morning. WOOT!!

    FRUSTRATING NEWS !!

I'm sorry you're having to go through this. Perhaps there are health reason's why? I know I was told to lose 10% and I went way past that. And the surgeon told me to continue to lose weight. It makes it all for an easier surgery for him to do, and for us for an uneventful surgery and easier recovery.... So good luck in any case...

    FRUSTRATING NEWS !!

What you're writing about Kaiser applies to ALL insurances. Not just Kaiser. And the wait to get the surgery is that Kaiser makes all of us go through the Option's Plan. And it is a wonderful plan. they prepare you for the surgery and what happens afterwards. I see and read about so many people that have this life changing surgery and they are totally lost afterwards! I'm so happy that I did go through the classes. Kaiser has the best plan out there IMO for this life changing surgery. The reason they have it, is so you'll be successful long term in your weight loss goals. I started the Options classes June 1st. I finished them in August. I also lost the required 10% weightloss they ask for, for my safety. Plus more. If someone doesn't lose the weight before surgery, they're not going to be very successful in keeping it off long term. It is no rumor that people that go through the Option's Plan at Kaiser have their surgeries in 4 months, IF that is the route you want to go. I am having my surgery tomorrow and this is the Kaiser in So CA. So I don't know who told you it was an 11 month wait for the surgery.
  19. OK, I have Medicare through Kaiser's Senior Advantage plan. But I am not a senior yet. Well, I'm not retirement age. I am disabled and I collect my SS. Anyway, it depends on what Senior Advantage Plan someone gets into. With kaiser, I don't have to pay 20%. I pay $125 a day for the hospital. That is it. Unless I have complications and have to stay longer. But it is $125 a day up to a certain point, then Kaiser pays 100%. So, I am planning my surgery to cost anywhere between $125-$375, if I stay in the hospital 3 days which seems to be about the norm. BTW, In my Kaiser support group there is a man there that just got the RouNY done. He's 72 years young. And I don't know their ages, but a hand full of seniors there...
  20. Anyone have this test done? It measures the Protein level in your blood. Apparently, I am at 17. Normal is 20-24, I think. So this means I am not getting enough protein or because I am overweight, I am malnourished? Is it as easy as just drinking some Protein drinks before surgery this coming Tuesday?? P.S. I'm going to e mail my surgeon about this, but at the moment their website is down for maintenance! UGH!

Has anyone heard of STARR Treatment?

BTW, Congrats on your decision to do the sleeve instead of the Lap Ban! We were all told that they take out just as many as they put in and there is a high failure rate with them. When I first considered WLS, I wanted to get the Lap Ban, until I found out that you had to go in every 3 months for fills and then the failure rate changed my mind real quick!
  22. Thanks for commenting!! I e mailed my surgeon and he called me this morning. He said it was concerning, but told me not to worry to much.He says they're finding out that overweight people are malnourished. So he did think it was a good idea to start drinking the protein drinks along with my food. So I'm drinking 2 a day now and that is upping my protein by 50 grams, plus the protein from my meals. How long have you been post op??

Has anyone heard of STARR Treatment?

My surgeon asked me to wash my belly button when I take my shower, before the surgery. I'm having my surgery at Kaiser South Bay. I hope they are using this new procedure on me!!! Also, I already have scars on my belly because I had my gall bladder removed about 15 yrs ago....I don't need any more. But if I have it done the other way, I won't be to disappointed! I'm just so thrilled that I am finally doing something about my weight!!
  24. Medicare is a federal benefit. All states are the same. But many people get MEDICARE AND MEDICADE confused. Medicare is federal. Medicade is run by your state. And again, If you're enrolled in a Senior Advantage Plan through MEDICARE, the sleeve will be covered.
  25. It is if you're in a Senior Advantage Plan. I am on Medicare. But enrolled in a Senior Advantage Plan. I am having the sleeve done 10/25/11.
