  1. Yes, you're doing fine! At my 4 week mark, I had lost only 7 pounds! That wa after I had lost 53 pounds on my own before the surgery. So you're doing great!

Yeh! The Lapband Is Coming Out....

Good for you! When I first thought about WLS, I thought, I'll get the Lap Band! it just seems so easy, etc etc!! Well, I went to my first Kaiser seminar about the 3 different WLS they offered. And they DID NOT recommend the Lap Bad at all. They said they take out as many as they put in! And mentioned all the problems that go with it. That really popped my balloon! LOL So then I wanted the RouNY. All the way into the end of my Option's program. Then I met with my surgeon and he recommended the sleeve for me. Said because of the meds and my health problems I have, that I would be high risk for the rouNY. I am glad he guided me to the sleeve! I think you'll be happy with it as well. And healthier too!!

    Thiamine Deficiency

We were told to supplement with 100mg B-1, cut in half on Mon-Wed and Friday's for the sleeve for 6 months. After that there is no need. Unless of course one isn't consuming flour/grain foods like the OP. Hope this helps...
  4. Not sure who this question is directed at. But I was very happy with Dr. Mun at the South Bay facility. But I have friends that have had Dr. Zane and I hear he is very good too. Someone here also posted that he works out of OC as well. Kaiser's program is VERY GOOD. And they are very picky on the doctors they hire. So know that you are with a very good baratric surgeon if you go through Kaiser...

    Protein Shake A Must?

Agree! Not all the Protein drinks are bad. And the Premiere, to me tastes great! Just remember you can live without Vitamins. But remember, the least that can happen with not enough protein is your hair will fall out. The worst is death. The body cannot live without protein! So I sure would find some sort of Protein Drink you like or can tolerate and I sure wouldn't worry about the cost. They aren't that much! Good Luck!

    Exercise We All Dread It

Actually, for me, I've found that I enjoy my workouts. I'm shocked actually! But I remember how I started and how far I've come. It's like a little competition with myself and I try to do more or better each time I go. For me, right now the main exercise I do is the exercise bike. I go for about 35 min now on level 4-9. Then I do some resistant weights. I would love to do more, but I have a really bad knee. So the bike is the only cardio I can do.
  8. A couple weeks back, I posted about my stall I was going through right after surgery. I had surgery Oct 25th 2011. After I lost the Water weight they had pumped into me, I lost 7 pounds. And 7 pounds was all I lost! The scale wasn't moving. Not even at a month out. Of course I was discouraged and frustrated! I couldn't understand how I couldn't be losing weight on 400-600 calories a day. i had even e mailed my surgeon's office and they told me the same things you all have told me here....and in one e mail they told me to up my calories to 1000-1200 a day! Well, I did up them some. I think last night I got in 1100 calories. But I really feel that, that is to much food for me right now. In any case, I lost 5 pounds since yesterday!! So my stall is over! WOOT WOOT! It will be interesting to see how this progresses. Will I lose in spurts? Will it be a once a month weight loss?? I'm curious to know how your weight loss happens?? Specially so soon after your surgery?? Is it daily? Weekly? How much, how fast????
  9. I think it is amazing how different we all are and how differently we lose the weight! It certainly is a roller coaster ride isn't it? I now see why so many of you say to put the scales away!! But I am so happy that I lost more weight! I was starting to think something must be wrong with me. How can I be eating so little and not lose any weight other than 7 pounds since the surgery! And I am exercising like crazy too. Doing everything they told me to do.... I'm going to be curious how I will lose now....LOLOL Thanks everyone for posting! I appreciate it!
  10. Rainsong, I just wanted to send you good thoughts and the best of luck with your surgery! It is all such a personal journey isn't it? I myself have only told close family members and a few friends. The vast majority don't know. So, I've lost about 60 pounds since this all began back on June 1st. Fifty-three pounds on my own. I then had surgery Oct 25th. And I've only lost 7 pounds since surgery. I guess I am in one of those dreaded stalls. One reason I opted for the surgery is I have rheumatoid arthritis. I was at a point where I had to do something to improve my health or I was going to end up in a wheelchair and get fatter and fatter and die. I wasn't depressed! I was being realistic! So, with all the stress of surgery and weight loss afterwards not as fast as I had hoped, and of course I had to be off my RA meds a month before and a month afterwards.....I have gone into a big RA flare, where just about every joint in my body hurts, bad. In the morning, I have to use a walker to get around... Anyway, I will see my rheumy Tuesday and they will give me a cortisone shot and this flare will pass. I just have to giggle a little. Because my neighbors probably think I am deathly ill since some seen my husband bring in my Mother's walker from the garage.....and seeing the weight loss I've already had... Oh my, I am blabbering..... Anyway, good luck to you.....and walk walk walk after the surgery!! But I'm sure you know that!!
  11. You look absolutely beautiful and your husband, very handsome! Congratulations and good luck in the future!! Also please tell your hubby, thank you for his service to his country!!

    Weight Loss Has Stalled

I know exactly how you feel. I think sometimes, what if I am the only one that eats 500-700 calories a day and I don't drop a pound? Ever? But it's not possible, is it on those kinds of calories!? We have to lose weight sooner or later. And while the scale doesn't move, they say we are losing inches. I do believe that. I know some blouses that I have, used to be to small. Now they're to big and they hang on me! YAY! And that is the whole point of weight loss....losing those inches and we get stuck on that damn scale!

    I am the only one??

As do I. I also use the light mayo as well. This was a life change for me so I plan on sticking to what my surgeon tells me. I don't want to get into bad habits....again.

    Weight Loss Has Stalled

I hate to say this, but I get a little happy when I read that others are going through the same as I am! I was sleeved on Oct 24. I lost 53 pounds on my own before surgery. Then after surgery, after I lost the waterweight, that they pumped into me, I've lost a total of 7 pounds! That is all. And Tuesday, it will have been 5 weeks since my surgery. I am doing everything they've told me to do. I exercise like crazy on the exercise bike 6 days a week. I also do some resistant weights. So, I e mail my surgeon's office and they tell me this is all normal. I'll start losing again. But then they tell me that I'm not getting enough calories, and they tell me to up my calories to 1000-1200 a day! They say some people won't lose on 400-600 calories a day. Well, I CANNOT eat 1000 calories a day! That is just to much for me so soon after surgery. Anyway, I gotta believe that we're in a stall. Soon we'll start losing again. And when we're not losing...we're losing inches. I do believe that is happening!! So hang in there.....we're in the same boat!! And others before us have been in that boat too!

    Slow weight loss

Not all of us. I'm one month out. I've lost a total of 7 pounds in a month. UGH... And that was on 450-600 calories a day. Doc told me to up my calories to 1000-1200 a day. I'll try for 800-900 of healthy foods. I can't do more than that.....we'll see...........
  16. I was told in my Option classes and my surgeon that you can only absorb 30 grams of protein at a time. Any more than that, it is just peed out and it is hard on your kidneys.

    Sleepy After Eating

Oh my gosh, YES! And most times it is after lunch. Many times I have to go lay down. Sometimes I'll fall asleep, sometimes just closing my eyes for a while helps. But, this happened to me before surgery as well. So for me, it isn't a product of the surgery. Today it was so bad, I broke down and had a cup of coffee. i know I'm not suppose to have it. But I did. I wish I knew why it happens. Cause I hate it!
  18. Wow, I am wishing I had lost as much weight as you have so far! I was sleeved Oct 25, 2011, just 3 weeks ago. It will be a month this coming Tuesday. I have only lost 6 pounds since surgery!! Now that is depressing!! I'm doing exactly what my doc tells me to do. I even exercise an hour a day. Half an hour on the exercise bike doing cardio! I'm on pureed foods and my Protein drinks. Getting in at least 60-80 grams of protein a day. Although the food I eat is mostly meat....gotta always eat your protein first!! My calories are between aprox 450-600 a day. My surgeon's PA think it is because I lost so much weight before surgery. I had lost 53 pounds before.... People talk about going into starvation mode.....well, that is pretty controversial. Some docs believe in it. Some don't. I know Weight Watchers doesn't. I don't know what to believe... Anyway, for the OP, you're doing GREAT! So don't sweat it! :wink1:
  19. YAY!!!! I'm so happy for you Reallyrosy!!!! Just so you know, I was sleeved on Oct 25, 2011 and medicare paid for mine. But I am in a Medicare Senior Advantage Plan. OH, I had a $125.00 co-pay. Not bad!! Not bad at all! Anyway, make that surgery date, just in case anything changes in the New year coming up. Good Luck to you!!
  20. OK, I was sleeved, Oct 25,2011. I worked my butt off and lost 53 pounds before surgery, with diet and exercise. So I had the surgery, and I can now get the needed 60-80 grams of Protein a day. Plus my 64 oz of Water. And I have lost only one pound since the surgery! Apparently I am at a stall. My doctor's PA told me she thinks it is because I had lost so much weight before surgery. I know it will come off. But damn, this is frustrating! Has this happened to anyone here?? Thanks in advance for your comments!

    Slow weight loss

Well, Good Luck to you!! But no way am I going to up my caloric intake and start eating cake and pizza. To me, that is getting back into bad habits again. I'm following Dr.s orders and keeping myself at 550 calories and eating my protein first, then veggy's then some starches IF I'm still hungry. I also upped my exercise. Maybe that will give my body a jumpstart. I know at the calories I am eating, something has to give. Best of luck....
  22. OK, I finally found the Custom area. I'm not sure what values to add in the Protein, carb, fat area? Help!
  23. I just joined tonight from my computer, not from the phone app. I wish I could customize it. I'm lucky to get in 510 calories a day. And the amount of food is more than I can eat as well. I'm trying to figure it all out.... My name is MissBettyBoop2
  24. Not to worry. It will come off. I too stalled right out of surgery! I didn't lose a pound the first week and a half! But now it seems I am losing a pound a day! I know that won't continue, but it is fun to finally seeing that it is happening! Contrary to the post above me, it is NOT narcissistic, or obsessive to weigh ones self after a baratric surgery! it is PERFECTLY NORMAL!! Good luck to you!
