Hunger Coming Back?
BettyBoop replied to BettyBoop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm happy you're OK with that. I know a couple people that that happened to. One lady even had her doctors do a scope on her. She didn't quite beleive that they had done the surgery on her!! I know for ME, I was really afraid that would happen to me. Good luck to you... -

I'm So Scared Of Being Hungry!
BettyBoop replied to ShannonH's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I felt the same way. Even though most people don't feel hungry after surgery. However some do. Whether that is head hunger or real hunger. But most people don't. Also know that as time goes on, some of that hunger feeling does come back, I've been told. I'm 3 months out, tomorrow. And I do get a bit hungry now and it is not head hunger. I think it is because I had to go on prednisone for an RA flare I am having. It's controllable. I'm still eating less than 900 calories a day and I watch and log what I eat. :smile1: Just try to stay positive! -
Are You Happy With Your Choice?
BettyBoop replied to MiTurner247's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wanted to get the by-pass, but because I have an auto-immune disease, my surgeon recommended the gastric sleeve for me. He said the chances of me having a leak are greater with the RNY than the sleeve and if I had a leak it would be catastrophic for me. He said i could go home and think about it. Well, I told him right there, that I didn't need to think on it. I would have the sleeve done. I figured the RNY wouldn't be safe for me anyways and I wasn't all surprised that he guided me to the sleeve. So far, I am extremely happy with my decision. I really haven't had any issues pertaining to being sleeved. I haven't been sick once with it. If, once I get to my goal weight, and if I can maintain my goal weight, then I will be really happy!! BTW, I don't think I'll have a problem maintaining my weight tho. I've done a complete life change! -
Sending good thoughts! Let us know how you're doing!

Could I Be Added On To A Relatives Insurance?
BettyBoop replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Insurance & Financing
No. You cannot be added to her insurance. It would be insurance fraud if you tried. -
Good for you!! Like you, it was my grand plan as well. Lose the weight and see how my knee is. So after losing 52 pounds before surgery and 31 pounds after, the knee isn't going to get better. So I am sceduled for a knee replacement on March 19th. However, my plans aren't working out like I had planned. I have rheumatold arthritis, and a month after my WLS, I have gone into the biggest flare I've ever had. So now I don't think I can get it done on that date. My rheumy will probably want me to wait until I get my RA under control. P.S.. And I've had to go on prednisone as well. UGH.....that makes you gain weight! Major UGH In any case, I wish you much luck!! Please, let me know how it goes with your knee. How the PT and all that!! I see people now all the time with them and you cannot tell they've had a knee replacement at all because they walk perfectly!!!

Sometimes, I think it is hard for some of us to visulize what we might look like at our current or former weights or at the weight we think we might get to in this journey of ours. I found this website and I thought it was helpful! Maybe it will be helpful for you too...it's certainly interesting! < http://www.mybodygallery.com/ >

When I Don't Lose For A Week Or So....
BettyBoop replied to MikeC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think we all go through the dreaded 3 week stall. Stay with healthy foods and what you can eat comfortably. I myself wouldn't even try to eat junk food anymore. Why set myself up for those bad habits again? I'm not quite 3 months out. I was at a stall for what seemed like weeks, right after surgery. It was driving me batty! I even thought I did better on my own with the weight loss I had lost before surgery. I still only get in 400-800 calories a day. Then boom, the scale started moving. Looking at my tools on MyFitnessPal, I had lost 10 pounds in 20 days. That is on average a half a pound a day! You're going to have stalls. You're body is just rearranging it's self. While you stall, you lose inches. Once that is done, the scale starts moving again. You didn't gain all your weight overnight. You're not going to lose it over night. -
What Is A Good Net Gain Amount Of Calories?
BettyBoop replied to minaleigh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're doing just fine!! Your weight will come off! Don't worry about it. Just make sure you get your needed Protein and your fluids. I was the same boat as you. It was driving me nuts!! But soon, you'll start dropping like crazy!! Some days, I am dropping a pound a day. Soon it will stop and I'll start losing inches and then the scale will start dropping again. I sure wouldn't be trying for 1200 calories so soon out. FWIW, I get 600-800 calories a day. -
Thank you Liliana!

Two days ago I weighed in at 200 pounds. And I was so looking forward to reaching Onderland! And I did!! I lost 2 pounds in one day! I am now at 198! Goodbye for ever 200+! I will never see you again, nor will I miss you!!

Yes, you can take stool softeners. You can also take the vegetable senna laxatives. I know this is gross, but I know to many people having a hard time with the constipation. It's always good to keep on hand an enema, just in case! Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do! OH OH OH!! Take fiber, EVERYDAY. Benefiber is great! FiberChoice is good, but for some people it gives them gas......EEK!! Hope this helps...

Am I Being A Pig Already?
BettyBoop replied to happy1957's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Perhaps the red text above is a typo? Per my surgeon you need 64 oz of fluids a day, not 64 oz of protein. And 70-80 grams of protein. The Protein drinks also count as fluids, just like water and broth. Also they do have reduced sodium broth. Although I have no idea how they taste. -
Exericise Or No Exercise
BettyBoop replied to yecats's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before surgery, the only exercise I got was from walking at the park and shooting birds with my camera. However that got harder and harder because I have a bad knee. So, I started the process of WLS, and the classes I had to attend. Truly, to be successful in losing the weight, you need some sort of exercise. So my husband and I joined a gym. i never liked to exercise. And I could only do the exercise bike for 2 min to start! It hurt my knee to bad at first and I was also winded! That was ridiculous! So I bought an IPOD, and I am now up to 45 min a day on the exercise bike. Plus I do the different weights there as well. I ended up losing 52 pounds before the surgery. Basically at this point, the gym is the only exercise I get because my knee is so bad now. It's not going to get better. So I am now on a waiting list for a knee replacement! I can't wait to get it over with so I can get out and go hiking and take my camera with me and shoot nature! OH! I forgot to add, that I really enjoy the gym and exercising! I've worked my ass off to get where I am. And I'm proud of myself. I have a ways to go, but I know I'll get there! -
Am I Being A Pig Already?
BettyBoop replied to happy1957's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Early on after surgery, (although I am still less than 3 months out) I ate a fat free light yogurt. The whole thing! It FREAKED ME OUT! But then later I read about slider foods. They do go down easy for me. So I am careful with those. My NUT was surprised that I had no problem drinking my Protein drink in one setting. It's not like I guzzle it! But it seems to go down just as easy as Water. However it is different with meats. For me, it is important to weigh my foods and count calories and keep a log of what I eat. I started it before I had surgery and I will always do it now. It's habit. So I am on MyFitnessPal.com every day. Keeps me on track. And everyone and every surgeon/NUT is different. I was told to get in between 70-80 grams of protein a day. So that is what I do. I think you're doing fine. However, for me, it seems your protein level is to low. BUT, you gotta do what your NUT says and what is comfortable for you. -
Cheri, Believe me, if I can do it, anyone can! You'll get there! I have no doubt!
-
Thank you Adri. It surely does! What a journey! My only regret is, I wish I had been sleeved years ago! It truly makes me happy seeing the young women here change their lives and health for the better! And of course, the older ones, like me. It's never to late!! ROCK ON!

I totally agree. I've even heard that we've cheated! Well this isn't a game! I worked my ass off to lose weight before surgery and continue to work my ass off to lose weight after surgery! And I will continue to work my ass off to maintain my weight loss.
