Isopure clear protein drink
aubrie replied to jewelee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bariatriceating.com has a website with an entire line of products. I ordered several things from them. I was disappointed in their sample of protein shakes. Yes, they had enormous amounts of protien, but no other vitamins and minerals. If you're doing vitamins, I guess that doesn't matter, but I just felt cheated. They have other products that are really good, and their whey protein mixes very easily. -
if were only eating 800-1000 calories shouldnt we be losing?
aubrie replied to andielmt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost remarkably fast the first 6 weeks. The MINUTE I was able to add meat to my diet, I quit losing. WHY? It's so frustrating. I've given up all kinds of fattening foods myself, and I haven't lost a pound for two weeks. I know that restricting your calories slows down your metabolism more, but really....... I thought the increase in exercise would counteract that..... -
I'm 6 weeks out from surgery. the last week or so, I started getting a pain up under my ribs about an hour after I eat dinner in the evenings only. It feels similar to being stuck, but I'm not stuck. It really feels like my band is extra tight. why would I be tight then? why an hour after I eat. When I eat dinner I don't feel like I've eaten to much. I don't have pressure or feel like I'm to full. but an hour later I'm miserable. I'm also getting a lot of gas at the same time. Sometimes this lasts for hours, others it's for about 30 minutes or so. But it happens EVERY night now, and it doesn't matter what I eat. I haven't PBd or vomited or slimed. It just hurts.

Last night was my first taste of red meat since being banded 6 weeks ago. :hungry:It was heaven to be able to chew, even if I had to chew to mush. I have to say, they weren't kidding about red meat sticking with you!!!! I got full so fast, I couldn't even finish what I put on my plate. I had three small slices of roast beef with a tablespoon of gravey so it wasn't dry. I was full when I went to bed and was STILL FULL this morning when I got up. I couldn't even eat breakfast!! I didn't get hungry until lunch today. So solid food DOES stick with you longer. Now I understand about controlling hunger. May sound stupid to some of you, but it was a revelation for me. I think I can do this!!

I'm not allowed to eat them. doctor wants me to eat real meat and protiens. He thinks the bars have to many carbs and are potential triggers for PBs and getting stuck.
-
There may be a couple of explanations. chew at least thirty chews before you swallow. I tend to not chew enough, and have noticed that not chewing my meat well does make me very uncomfortable. Also, meat can tend to be dry. Try to find some low calorie moistening agents for your meat so it goes down easier. I found some fat free gravey at the health food store. It helps A LOT. I have also used applesauce, fat free salad dressing and a little mustard. anything to help moisten the meat. Then it doesn't sit like a ball in my tummy.

I had the spasms for about a week after surgery. They got less and less and just went away, but it did feel like a heart attack. It was not comfortable, but since they started while I was still in the hospital, my surgeon was able to tell me what was happening.

Big D, congratulations!!! I spent christmas in Plano with my family. I live in Corpus Christi and had my surgery on November 19th. So far I've lost 26 pounds. The gurgling is normal. It's mostly gas. You'll have lots of that for about a week or so. Some of it may be painful. Do EXACTLY what your doctor tells you and all will go fine. It's a big step, but you will be glad you did it. hang in there. Getting out of bed gets much easier about day 8 or 9. then the itching starts. Good luck!

My port is just to the left of my belly button, but I too get pain up under my ribs in the evening. For whatever reason, no matter what I eat, my tummy hurts under my ribs in the evening about an hour after I eat. could it be that I'm tighter in the eveing? Am I eating to much? I'm eating about 3/4 to 1 1/2 cups of food. Rarely the 1 1/2... It's now to much. why just in the evening?

Rest assured, the majority of the people who did it "the hard way" and were successful at it are also looking at the VERY BIG REALITY, that not only will they gain it back eventually, (like we all have in the past) but may end up gaining even more than when they started!!!! We've all been there, done that... right? They'll figure it out.... Let em talk. In five years, they'll be where we are, wishing they had done it in the first place.

I would recommend any place that has a bisque. It won't have chunks of any kind and you should be able to handle it. My husband took me to a restaurant that had lobster bisque and I thought, I can handle this!!! I didn't feel cheated at all. A tomato basil soup should be alright as well. There is one restaurant I went to where I knew a couple of the wait staff, and they arranged to have the soup pureed in the kitchen for me. Pureed cream of chicken is pretty darn good.

In two days I put on 4 pounds. I did eat a high calorie dinner on New Year's Eve, but limited the amount. Can PMS put a whopping 4 pounds on you? I think that's the problem because my nips are sore and I feel bloated. But then again.... I haven't had a fill yet, and am wondering if I'm gaining just because I'm able to eat more things now.

I've been told no: aspirin, popcorn, carbonated drinks, chewy granola or protien bars, or fatty meats like sausage or brisket and raw, hard vegetables like brocolli, cauliflower and carrots. I can have brocolli but it has to be cooked to very soft. At that consistancy, what's the point in eating it? All the Vitamins are gone... I eat it steamed anyway without problem.. yet... I haven't had a fill yet. I can have coffee or tea, but only two cups a day. I've been told to avoid white potatoes, white bread and white rice, but it's not forbidden. I can have alcohol, but only wine is totally acceptable in small quantities. Liquor is okay, but the mixers are a problem. Beer of course is a no no.... and I LOVE an ice cold beer... I'm 6 weeks out and had my first salad last night. I chewed like crazy and did fine, but lately EVERYTHING, no matter what it is makes my tummy hurt in the evenings about an hour after I eat.

kinda gross, but gotta ask...
aubrie replied to JayJay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went for a week after surgery with no bowel movements. I was in pain. It was NOT liquid in, liquid out for me!! I called the doc in a panic and he said to take milk of magnesia. I did, and voila, all was well the next morning, BUT then I had trouble controlling everything. I went back to work on day 11 after surgery, and pooped my pants my first day back. UGH!!! Thank God it was just that once, but I do not trust my farts anymore..... -
this is so funny. I can see a difference in the mirror with just a 26 pound loss. My double chin is noticably different, and my shoulders and boobs look different. I've gone down a bra size and a cup size. Funny thing is, I'm the only one that has noticed besides my Dad and my husband. My husband noticed when I was leaning over a counter writing a check for a Christmas gift. He practically yelled it out in the store. I was so embarrassed. Couldn't he wait until we got home? But I was delighted he noticed......

Did losing weight make you look older?
aubrie replied to BobbieDoll's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This is my worst fear. I've had a friend who lost only 55 pounds and aged 15 years. She was so horrified, she gained most of it back. I know that's unusual, and I keep telling myself that, but at age 48 my skin has definately lost its elasticity. I've always taken care of my skin, and have always been told I look WAY younger than 48, so I pray that helps, but I can already see my neck looking puckery, and I haven't even lost half of my weight yet. this is a worry for me. One girl in my support group who has lost over 100 pounds, says: "Just wait. When you get close to goal, you'll be able to put your boobs in your pocket." So much for the "support" in that comment!!! -
I am 6 weeks post op and have lost 26 pounds. I did not have a pre-op diet, and only two weeks of liquids afterwards. Mushies for 4 weeks. I've only been "really hungry" three or four times. Water consumption usually took care of it. I have a 10 cc band that was filled to 4 cc at time of surgery. I have not had a fill post op yet. I do indeed feel restriction. I can't eat very much at a time. Heavy foods keep me full for hours. (Things like refried beans, chicken, meat) I get a tummy ache if I eat to much and it will last a while. I haven't PB'd yet, but have been stuck on fish that was to dry. At this point, since I'm losing very well, I don't think I need a fill. when I level off, I'll be the first one calling for an appointment. I think a lot of this has to do with my frame of mind. I think Kristin1031's description and attitufe is a ditto for me. Although, I can eat more some days than others, I try to be mindful of what I'm eating. Slowing down and really tasting and enjoying my food is interesting. I'm more aware of textures and subtle flavors. When you're mindful, it just doesn't take as much to satisfy you.

I have a 10 cc band and was filled to 4 cc at time of surgery. I must be a wierdo, because I DO feel a little restriction, and get a tummy ache if I try to eat more than a cup of food. I can't eat near the amount that I used to. Some foods stick with me for hours afterward and are uncomfortable. (Meat) I've been stuck once eating fish. I thought I would die. No PB yet though. I'm scheduled for my first fill on Jan. 11, but honestly don't feel like I need one yet. I'm 6 weeks out and lost 26 pounds. Do I really need a fill?

Phentermine and the band
aubrie replied to juliegeraci's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used phentermine a few years back. I exercised 3 times a week, tried to stick to a low carb, high protien diet and drank water. In 6 months I only lost 18 pounds. then my doctor took me off it becuase it can be dangerous long term. It did absolutely nothing for me. With that weight loss plan, I was convinced that the band would NEVER work for me. I've been banded 6 weeks now and have lost 26 pounds!! It's a freaking miracle. -
Forgive yourself for Christmas dinner!
aubrie replied to Betsyjane's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am really proud of myself. I couldn't eat the Christmas ham. I wasn't on red meat yet. but I did have a teaspoon of all the vegetable dishes. I had half a glass of wine and a teaspoon of buttermilk pie. that's it. From December 21 until this morning, I managed to drop 4 pounds!!!! I was in shock when I returned home and got on the scale. I didn't beleive my sister's scale, but my own scale confirmed it. God I love my band!!! -
I'm six weeks out and had a small glass of wine two different nights over Christmas. It did go to my head faster than usual, but of course I'm not eating as much to absorb the alcohol either. My doctor does NOT recommend beer or any carbonated drink, but is okay with occasional glass of wine. I did notice however, that I was slightly dehydrated the next day and had to bump up my water intake. I managed to lose 4 pounds this past week, so I guess the wine didn't mess up my overall calorie intake. But I'm NOT going to make a habit of it.
-
I didn't have a pre-op diet per se. I was a BMI of 43. Was told to eat low fat, low carb diet and eat healthy for one week, and clear liquids two days before surgery. I was fine. No problems.
-
I'm going to tell my husband it's a "necessity". LOL
-
I LIKE THAT!!!! "Your band is like a gym membership. If you don't use it, it won't work"..... Well said.

I like fat free refried black Beans with a sprinkle of cheese, a tsp. of fat free sour cream and a heaping tablespoon of guacamole on top. It's very filling and tastes close to normal food. I beat my eggs with a little skim milk before I "scramble" them. It keeps them from getting sticky. I also LOVE egg drop Soup. I toss in a few slices of summer squash and cook until it's real soft. Cream of wheat made with half skim milk and half vanilla slim fast. Add a touch of vanilla and cinnamon. My husband asked me for some it smelled so good. I also like baked sweet potato whipped. I like poached fish with squash and onions. I poach it in Swanson's SEASONED chicken broth. It has a touch of herbs and roasted garlic flavor. No sense in sacrificing flavor just because we can't eat very much. It keeps the fish moist and soft. I can't have red meat yet, so I'm trying to find interesting things to do with fish. Fresh crabmeat makes a nice crab salad. Just mash up the lump meat real good. I was able to handle a small baked crabcake. Hope you like something I mentioned.
