  1. For me it's not so much not eating "what" I want, but not eating it "Whenever" I want, and not eatiing "how much" I want. I too, do not deprive myself of regular food. I just don't eat the trigger foods nearly as often, and limit them to a bite or two. That way I never feel deprived or "dieting". I'm now just a normal person, eating in a normal way. I still had to change my mindset, just different frame of reference.
  2. This happened to me when my Gallbladder started acting up. Did they check that too?

    Tastes different?

Most things taste pretty much the same. On the other hand there are a few things that I now avoid due to calories, but on the rare ocassion that I allow myself a bite or two, I savor it in my mouth like gourmet food. That bite lasts and it tastes so much better. It's like I don't take it for granted. When you can eat whatever you like, you don't appreciate it. Does that make sense?

men noticing you more with weigth loss?

LOL.... "Word Vomit". Hmmm. I've never heard that term, but it perfectly describes this type of thing!
  5. Personally, I wouldn't let a nurse touch me. That's what I paid the surgeon for. 2 weeks does seem very soon for a fill. You may want to have a heart to heart on your next visit and tell him what you expect for your money.

    Be honest, does it hurt?

I also receive a numbing agent. The quick sting from that is all I feel. He does leave the needle in a while, once he hits my port, as I have to drink successfully for a while before he's satisfied it's not to tight. Then he will pull it out. Even then, I have to sit in the waiting room for 20 minutes and drink even more water before I can leave. He wants to make absolutely certain I'm not overfilled. I appreciate that. I have a little buise on my tummy for a few days, about the size of a quarter, but it's not sore.

    fat patch on butt!

my hubby had one up his back between his shoulder blades at the very base of his neck. His was sore too, but after several years it began to give off a peculier odor. We were freaked out. He went to the doctor, and his fat patch turned out to be a subateous cyst. The lipids or "fat" got old and rancid and that is where the odor came from. We had it removed. Simple procedure in the docs office. It just took a few stitches. When he removed it, it reminded me of a raw oyster. Very strange. It's never come back, and that's been years ago. Do you think that's what you have?

    Going through or considering divorce?

KellieBelly, Hang in there. I too, thought I had made a huge mistake after I left my first husband. I pined away about it all for a few years. I missed him because that was what was familiar. I was lonely. things were different. My kids wanted him. BUT, after a few years, and getting past that hump, I realize what a TERRIFIC thing I did for myself, and was perplexed at why I had been so confused about it. I started to see things more clearly instead of through rose colored glasses. I simply didn't grieve anymore. It was like going through the greiving process of a death. My kids were better off. I was better off. I've remarried and am blissfully happy with my highschool sweetheart (for 18 years now). When I look back I just shudder and praise God for my wisdom, honesty with myself, steadfastness, responsibility and maturity. mY life would have been HELL had I stayed.

dating and a new sex partner! well maybe

If you're not ready yet, take it slow. There is no magic recipe for relationships. Just be gentle with yourself. If this guy is as awesome as you say, he'll give you all the time and space you need. Maybe hang out with other couples for a while until you become more at ease with the whole thing. There's no rush. Start thinking...... What do I need for closure? Then pursue that.

    Getting noticed

Yup. It happens. I'll be 50 in June and I had a MUCH younger guy flirt with me. I told him I was to old for him, and he said, nonsense. I cracked up and told him my age and his face paled. He was speechless. He said, I honestly thought you were 38. 38??~!!!! Oh Lord, Bless him!!!! Guys at the gym, at work, at the grocery store.... It's crazy. I thought it would piss my husband off, and he just laughs and thinks it's a compliment to him. Part of the reason for this of course is that all of my rings are now too big and fall off, so I can't wear my wedding ring at the moment, and dont' want to fix them until I'm done losing weight. I occasionally wear it on my middle finger if I get dressed up. Enjoy it!!!!! You deserve it.

    Fiance' Banded

I'm a bit concerned that his doctor is letting him continue this. Either he's not being completely honest with his doctor about his habits or his problems, or he might need to try a new doctor. I know some doctors are more aggresive with the band than others. One like that put a friend of mine in a really bad way. Her band slipped and she almost died. she got a different doctor and her band experience is now a joy instead of a nightmare. Are there any other doctors in your area you could get a second opinion? I also agree with all the posters above. He has some non band issues that need to be addressed, and some habits that need closer evaluation. Good luck to him and kudos to you for sticking by him.

    Lap Band and Rheumatoid Arthritis

I have the same issue, but I'm a bit hopeful. I've recently seen a new thing on the market as far as pain relievers, and that's the fast acting liquid gels. The melt faster and have liquid inside. I'm assuming the medicine would move through a pouch a LOT quicker. I see my surgeon on the 9th, so I'm going to ask him about it then.
  13. My husband, God bless him, never said a word about my weight as it crept up over the years. He was always such a gentleman about it. He loved me no matter what I looked like. The "Oh my God moment" was one night, out of the blue, after I struggled to get up off the couch and moaned in pain, my husband started sobbing. Litterallly sobbing. I was freaked out. When I asked him what was wrong, he told me that I was such a beautiful person, and he loved me so much and it ripped his guts out to think that before long he was going to have to wheel me around in a wheelchair and watch me die young. I was stunned. It hit me over the head like a sledge hammer, that my weight didn't just affect me. I went to a seminar on Bariatric Surgery the following week. It took me 11 months and several appeals to get it approved, but I stuck to my guns and did everything necessary. My beloved husband couldn't be happier.

    Compliments

I agree with OhJuli. I usually say, "thanks. I feel great!" The simple reason I did this was more for my health than my looks. My appearance was an added bonus. At almost 50 years old, I didn't expect to look "hot" when it was all over, but I did expect to have some real progress with my blood pressure, arthritis, etc. And I have!!!
  15. Sometimes I just don't understand my Dad. I'm doing so good. I can't beleive he sent me this quote. I think it's sad. He's got diabetes, doesn't take care of himself, is grossly overweight, his legs are black from lack of ciruculation and I see him losing his legs before it's all over. What the hell is he thinking? Why would he want the same for me?????? "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!" Have a great Holiday Season!
  16. Hubby bought me a low cut sweater for Christmas. That is not typically him. I wore it, but was very self conscious as my bra was visible if I turned the wrong way. I told him I would get a camisole. He said, NO WAY. It's sexy, I like it, so what if someone else looks. They can eat their heart out. It's "interesting" to see you in a different light. A little tart. Every now and then it's nice. I almost fainted. He's very conservative.

    my teeth hurt--vitamin deficiency?

Mine started hurting too. BUT I also know I've been stressed out more than usual. Apparently I've been taking that stress to bed with me, and have started clenching my teeth at night. Dentist said If it doesn't pass with the stress, he'll have to outfit me with some rubber mouth thingy for when I sleep. Are you unusually stressed?
  18. LOL. For me now.... "Fast food" is a piece of fresh fruit!!

    I miss Sushi.... :(

I can only eat one or two pieces of a roll, and I have to remove the black seaweed stuff, but other than that I'm good to go. Occasionally, the rice is a bit TOO sticky, so I just add some of that spicey pink sauce and I do just fine.

    Swimming - post op?

Yes, ask your surgeon, but mine made me wait 6-weeks. I do water aerobics as my choice of exercise due to my arthritis. I did GREAT with it. In between I walked and did a bicycle at the gym. Swimming was the least boring. Good luck to you!

    ideas for on the road

Bumble Bee makes some perfect size flavored tuna with a tiny package of crackers. They are perfect for me, and I absolutely LOVE the lemon pepper flavor. I eat it religiously once or twice a week. I also get the tiny little cans of low sodium V-8 juice. They are only 30 calories, a serving of veggies and make a perfect on the go snack. Of course fresh fruit is always an option. I love the fresh pears in the fall. I've taken to eating lettuce wraps instead of sandwhiches. I bring sliced avocado, a slice of my favorite cheese and some thin sliced deli meat and wrap it in a crisp leaf of romaine. Sometimes in throw in sprouts or salsa or something. A little messy, but sure good.

    Lettuce and Cabbage

Like Jachut, I have to be really careful with the soft lettuce mixes, but a good crunchy lettuce is fine. I do best with romaine. It was recommended on this board a while back, and sure enough, I did much better with it. Cooked cabbage is no problem at all. I make stuffed cabbage rolls all the time. But I don't care much for raw cabbage. I'm not a fan of cole slaw.

    Hard Boiled Egg

Can't do a plain hard boiled egg either. I soft scramble mine with milk, make deviled eggs with curry (YUM), make egg drop soup on cold days, or beat one in with some ricotta cheese, pour spaghetti sauce over it and bake it with parmesan and provolone on top. YUM!!!

What is the fastest way to INCREASE my Iron?

Eggplant, if you eat it with the skin on, is a good source of iron too. I love it and eat it all the time. It's good grilled, stuffed, stewed, and fried.
  25. I've seen bison meat at our local grocers. It's a peculiar color. It's more of a purple color meat, instead of the bright red of beef. I don't know if that's because it's vaccuum packed or not, but it's also very lean. No fat at all. We can get ground bison and bison steaks. I haven't tried it yet, as it is very expensive, but I have heard from numerous sources how good it is, and good for you.
